Was lucky today and had a dentist appt which meant I had to leave work early which also meant I got to stop by the one and only straight from New York pizza downtown. I love this place. Small, narrow and a perfect place to grab a quick slice or two as I did. I wish Salem had more places to eat like this. Kind of like the original ventis when it was at the reed. I must say it was a cool Friday and the inside was a little cold but that's just a minor comfort thing. The pizza I chose today was the combo and Hawaiian. Love both places. Buying your slices the last hour or happy hour is a great deal. They are generous with their toppings compared to what i see at by the slice pizza's at our health food store or costco.they also allow you to pay $.50 extra for more of your favorite toppings. Also staff ate great, and don't forget to tip. My dad was a barber and he took us out to Sunday brunch on his tips. read more

Timely delivery. I got a half and half pizza. One half Hawaiian with marinara or red sauce and the other a margarita with a garlic olive oil instead of sauce and added crushed garlic. It was cooked okay, I forgot to have it cooked well done so the tips of the slices were wimpy and a step up from soggy. The Hawaiian half was flavorful and made me want more. straight from New York Pizza in downtown Salem on liberty Street is an all-time staple. It's been there forever. I love that they have a 14 inch gluten-free pizza. I'm not sure that it's the best gluten-free pizza but thank goodness for the quality of cheese, pepperoni, and olives that they put on top of it. It certainly didn't feel skimped for the $25 that I spent on my to go order. I'm satisfied. I can't attest to how well the pizza will reheat but at the moment, it's filling my craving. I'm not exactly being focused with this particular establishment. It's a pizza joint. You go and get your pizza and get out. I was extremely disappointed with the quality of pizza. By the slice it was cold, extremely thin crust with almost no flavor. How this restaurant received any positive reviews is a mystery to me. First and last. Really disappointed. Ordered from GRUB HUB so you know I already paid too much for the convenience or delivery. The driver was fantastic and was quickly ruined when I opened the box. The toppings (vegetables) are raw, the bell pepper is cut thick and is still cold to the touch. The crust is not crispy as promised but soggy like it had been sitting in a puddle of water so unappetizing. I made a point to say no olives and guess what was all over it? Not my favorite place but not the worst. I've ordered here many times hoping it would get better but it hasn't. Several times the order was not cooked all the way and it was still doughy. It is inconsistent. I tried it the first time and it was ok. It was what New York Pizza should be... Then, it started getting worse. The dough was consistently undercooked on one side and burnt on the other. The dough even tasted worse. I had a problem with their pizza recently and I won't be back. This is about the South Commercial St store. Actually, their pizzas are quite good while their Calzones tend to be a little over-cooked. But the biggest problem is that of customer awareness and delivery. When I called they said it would take about an hour for the delivery, which was fine as I was calling at 5:39pm. When I called at 7:00pm wondering where my order was, they gave me a song and dance story about how they said it was going to take an hour and that they told me they were short of delivery drivers (which they did not). Then I was told the order was not even out of the kitchen. There is a major disconnect here. Either do not offer delivery or make the effort to do what was said. I will not be ordering from SFNY again until they get their act together. read more
