I been going into this location since my high school years & the welcoming always felt good till today! Never seen this guy at the counter, right out the bat super disrespectful! As I ordered the slices of pizza he threw a fit because I grabbed my own cups! Stating I should wait for him to give them to me when the cups are right next to the register. Keep in mind I only grab the 3 cups I paid for and he acted as I touched all of the cups and when off to argue with me about that! Through out the whole time there he kept giving us dirty looks, we sit right by the window in front of the register & he kept being extra nice to other people who were going in. Unfortunately I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK & I will be letting everyone of my friends know to stop going there, he was just plain disrespectful and plain douche bag! Worse experience and to top it off I was going with someone who had never been there so it was a bad experience for her too and we had a child with us & he still went out of character over me grabbing the 3 cups. There are three SFNY pizza places in Salem -- quite close together. This one on Commercial and Owens is the gem. Parking both out front and in back (the back is easier to leave from), a quiet patio in the rear, a good beer selection, a comfortable industrial themed dining area, and much better service than the other locations. The "by the slice'" section is well stocked with genuine New York style pizza -- they get the cheese absolutely right, which ain't easy. The crust is properly foldable and the topping selection is formidable. Baking a whole pie takes a while so call it in if you're in a hurry, or get a beer and hang. read more

Stopped here on a whim and grateful we did! Delicious pizza and the breadsticks are to die for. We got there right as they were opening so they were still setting up tables and such, no big deal. I did remove a star because even though they had just opened, the dining room wasn't that clean, it also felt like they had way too many tables and chairs for the small space, and because the breadsticks were not ready until 15 minutes after we got our pizza. I would highly recommend the gluten free crust for anyone who is gluten free or anyone that likes thin and crispy crust. I didn't get a pic of our whole margherita pie, was too hungry, but honestly it was so good. The flavors were amazing despite the tomatoes being a light red color. Services was great and tack on a salad if you can, those are yum too. This place gets busy at lunch. The parking in the front is insane, park in the back if you can. This is for the location downtown on Liberty. When I went in today at about 1:30 pm, there was no one in restaurant to greet me. I waited about 1 min and a guy walked out and I asked if they were open which apparently annoyed him. He points to the cameras to show me he saw me walk in. When I attempted to order a couple slices of cheese with garlic, he told me that that do t do that!! LMAO. I ALWAYS have gotten it that way. Ordered a 14'´ Brooklyn pizza to pick up. Waiting time 45 min on a Sunday. Normal. When i got there 45 min later they tell me I'll have to wait 40 more min!? Seems it was a mistake and they found my pizza!!?! Pick it up, didn't check it out. Brought it back home.‍ It was the wrong topping and got charged for a 18'´:( Went back to the shop. They apologize, i guess. I agree to wait for them to make the pizza i wanted on the first place. They offered me a beer and put my order on the front!! I waited only 10 min. The name of the game here is UNPRETENTIOUS. Got to love a simple unpretentious pizza place, and this is it. Being an ex-NY-er, walking past this place a few years ago when they had the door propped open and catching a familiar scent of authentic NY pizza, I knew I had found my local pizza haven. Even the long narrow layout with the little counter felt NY-familiar. The pizzas have a thin crust and avoid the sin of a too-thick-doughy pizza crust that ruins so many other pizzas. The topping offerings are numerous, simple and fresh (although I like to bug them about adding anchovies to their options...so far, without luck). The service is quick and efficient and friendly enough. And the prices are very reasonable (again, because it is unpretentious)...you can get two slices and a soda (or forego the soda as I do--not a soda person) for $9, if i recall correctly (summer 2024 prices). And after 5 pm, for that last hour before they close at 6 pm, they do a "happy hour" with half-prices. Great little gem in downtown Salem! (Also, they have a few sidewalk dining tables, far enough away if you are trying to dine outside on a Friday night to avoid that trainwreck of a bad street musician who is at the corner of Liberty and State Streets every Friday night). read more

The veggie I ordered was yummy. Husband rated his meat lover's at a 4. The breadsticks were huge and tasted okay, but we only got a table spoon of sauce. I asked if there was a charge to change out an ingredient on my pizza. She said no, then charged me $3 for it. They only don't have regular plates, just the cheap paper ones. It fell apart. The best pizza in Salem, hands down. Employees are always super friendly and the inside is cute! I love coming here for lunch and getting a slice or two. Chef's choice always turns out to be my favorite, other favorites are their BBQ chicken and margarita. I'm not usually a crust person, but their crust is incredible. Terrible customer service. I was in line the for midday special prior to 5 PM. The employee dinked around, slowly serving guests. When it was my turn, I was told that it was too late for the special. It was 5:02. The gross girl working at the desk chuckled, and gave an insincere apology. Frankly, the pizza is just okay. Think mall food court pizza. Not usually one to complain but this was my second bad experience here. I ordered the 5 cheese and received a pizza that seemed as if it was just crust and shredded Parmesan cheese. I paid extra for ricotta cheese due to them "forgetting" the first time, to which I ignored and ate it anyways, expecting it to be on there when I received it this time. It was not. I asked the girl if they don't do that anymore to which she replied "I don't know I don't make the pizza." After spending $50 for dinner for my family I got cold breadsticks and a dry pizza home to have to make something else for dinner. Very disappointed. Straight from New York - I don't think so - this is from a New Yorker. The Crust is ok and thin New York style plus they have slices - but that is where it ends. Neither one of us liked the pizza (tried "cheese" and "cheese and peperoni") and would not come back. Not tasty at all. Service was OK but not great. It is not an independent place but part of a small chain of about 5 - all local. Notice a lot of the positive comments about the cheap price - that should tell you something - not quality but cheap quantity. I just ordered two calzones from the Se commercial location. The first was supposed to have chicken, bacon, onions, green peppers, and barbecue sauce. The second was to supposed to have chicken, bacon, garlic, olives, and barbecue sauce. When I got home I discovered that they made two of the first one. The staff was nice enough to remake the order, however when I returned home the second time they somehow managed to mess up the order again. Lets get this straight ... yes its greasier that any other pizza in salem.... Thats because that is how a NY pizza is. This place is a slice from home. I have eaten at 3 locations and its the same every time. Great quality, pricier than other places but if you want to experience a TRUE NYC pizza this is the place. I ordered an extra cheese pizza from here on a Sunday night around 7:40pm. They told me they were busy and it would take 45 minutes to an hour. I waited almost 2 hours before calling back. They told me the did not even take a credit card offer after 7 pm. I have the charge on my account. They don't take your name and could not even tell if there was an order but had no problem charging my card. Very disappointed and they take no responsibility for them not having a record of the sale. Going down to speak to a manager when they open.
