I made a reservation in advance for the Mountain Angel Experience. This was to celebrate my husband's birthday. We arrived and found our tour leader, Forrest, checking folks in. We had time to go grab a cocktail from the bar prior. Ryan was behind the bar, crafting beverages for folks. My husband chose to have a Sazerac, while I went for an espresso martini. Drinks in hand we headed back to spend time with Forrest, who took us on a brief tour of the facility. He gave us the history of how Stranahan's started. It was interesting to learn that they bottle by hand. We came to our tasting set up. At each couple there were jars with items to smell that would be aromas or tastes we would experience, like rose, leather, tobacco, and cinnamon. There were four tastes paired with caramel, cheese, chocolate and fig. Each pairing brought out different flavors in the whiskey samples. We both had a lovely time and at the end, I had my husband pick a favorite for me to get for him for his birthday. Great experience! read more

Gorgeous facility. We went on the Top Shelf Tour, and stayed to enjoy the bar as well. I am reviewing both. The Top Shelf tour is $15 per person booked in advance. It is an hour long guided event including several whisky tastings along the way. It is a wonderful narrative plus science explanation. Really nice. Our tour guide was 10/10 engaging. She gave me permission to share her name in my review: Frances. And she to make sure to let Wally know she is far superior hahahaha! Her enjoyment and love of her work made the tour so much better than any tasting experience I have had. Take some cash to tip your guide at the end! While visiting friends in Denver, we decided to take the Top Shelf distillery tour. As a fan of whiskey and bourbon, but uneducated on the distilling processes, this was something that I was very much anticipating. The facility itself was more or less like any other distillery or brewery I've visited. Upon entering, you have the option of visiting the store loaded with their merchandise and whiskey selections, or cozying up to the bar to enjoy a variety of their offerings. The two hour tour was lead by a friendly and extremely knowledgeable young woman who guided us through the facility as she explained the history of the distillery and the distilling processes, while allowing us to take samples of both finished and unfinished products along the way. She finished the tour by giving us all a sample of their newest annual, limited edition single malt named Snowflake. Over all, it was a great way to spend a cool Denver evening. read more

This is a really fun place to try some really fun, unique, and tasty whiskeys! The Diamond Peak drive me nuts, though, cause they name all kinds of different limited release whiskeys "Diamond Peak" without any delineation. My abs fave was the anejo barrel aged. Ugh, so good. I downed a couple bottles and gave a lot out as treats/gifts. Now, I'm hiding the last one from myself wishing that I could get more bottles. Sad face. I am not sure they will "Ever" somebody told me, make again. Not Ever? Why? For the rest of time? I don't get that. Few years later, and Stranahan's is still one of our favorite spots to grab a cocktail or sip some whiskey! Since my initial review we've been back many times, and will continue to do so. Took my husband here to celebrate father's day yesterday and yet another lovely experience. We brought our little one in her stroller and had no issue finding a table with space for it. I had a seasonal cocktail that was sweet and spicy and super yummy. My husband stuck with his go to old fashioned which was perfect as always. Love the staff here, too. I was having a bit of an emotional/difficult time coping with something and one of the bartenders noticed my distress and gave us a little treat. It was an incredibly sweet gesture and very much appreciated. If they're reading this... Thank you. Truly. A no nonsence tour of how Strananahan's Whiskey was created... lical Denver story and not like big name whiskey... but better! The tour starts in their lounge that is quite cozy... Then we headed to the fermenting and barrelling rooms to learn about the natural sweetness of the various whiskeys. We had the opportunity to try 4 different whiskeys with interesting barreling stories from white oak to sherry to Vermont maple barrels. Be sure to reserve a tour time and eat before your tour as there is no food offered for these 80+ proof tastings. Our tour guides were personable and knowledgable... This is a traditional whiskey distillery in Denver. They offer a fine 80 proof classic whiskey for those starting to learn about fine whiskeys. From there you can graduate to their standard whiskey and from there roll to maple or apple sherry or rum casket varieties. They offer several more. You should try one of their flights. We had such a great time at this distillery! The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, and the drinks were fantastic. We tried a flight that included their Original, Sherry & Apple Whiskey, and the cocktail Whiskey Inferno. As someone who isn't usually a big whiskey fan, I was a little skeptical -- but the Whiskey Inferno completely won me over. You can barely taste the whiskey, and the drink itself was absolutely wonderful. Ryan & Steve were super knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting background about both the distillery and the whiskeys we tried. You can really tell they're passionate about what they do. Had a great time on a Sunday afternoon tour given by Travis. He was super entertaining and very knowledgeable about every aspect of the process from grain to bottle. The facility was really interesting and every bit of it was cool. The lounge area is something out of a movie it's really got an amazing vibe. Got here on a Thursday, about 15 minutes before the lounge opened. Hung out on the couch in the store area, the store employees were super nice. The lounge wound up opening 10 minutes late, and the bartender still wasn't ready. She attributed this to a new cocktail menu that required extra prep. No big deal, but the bartender seemed like she didn't want to be there. No smile, no enthusiasm, no "sorry about that," definitely minimal talking. I would dock 1/2 star, if I could, for the less than engaged bartender. The drinks, however, were outstanding. I had the raspberry hibiscus sour, which was not only pretty, but really good. My husband had the standard old fashioned; it was fairly bourbon forward, but very good. There isn't any food service here, but they do have a couple of packaged snacks you can get (pretzels, trail mix, etc). I do wish they had a kitchen and served some bar food. The prices were reasonable for craft cocktails and locally made bourbon. Didn't do the tour, but definitely would if we had more time. All in all, cool little place, and I would totally go back for the crazy whisky cocktails. read more

Astonishingly horrible experience ---------------------------------------- Key information: We were a group of six women that went on a tour for a friend's birthday and then went to the cocktail lounge. Three people went up to the bar. One person paid for her drink and snacks. Another paid for their drink and the birthday girl's drink. Two incorrect drinks were handed to the birthday girl and immediately returned at the bar still. The correct drink was given and then they returned to our table. This is all from the same bartender. I will emphasize here that ALL drinks were ordered AND PAID FOR at the bar. The one drink ordered from the table was comped because an incorrect drink was initially brought over and immediately returned ---------------------------------------- We were chased down by the bartender as we were leaving in an uber. He rudely asked, "You want to close out your tab, ladies?!" We were confused and said we shouldn't have any open tabs but if there is one somehow then please close it out for us. No card on file apparently - who opens a customer's tab at a bar without a card? This was also confusing. He brings out a receipt and says, " You can sign and include tip on the receipt. I recommend 20%" (crazy thing to say). We check the receipt and none of what is on it is ours. We tell him this, still confused. We also remind him everyone who ordered anything immediately paid at the bar (he is the bartender!) he reaches into the car, rips the receipt away and says "You know what, I'm gonna void this. Don't ever come back. You're not welcome back." Unfortunately for him, we were not okay with the situation because none of us would ever try to leave without paying and we were not okay with how horribly he treated us. Thankfully, the uber driver also thought that interaction was crazy and let us go inside to figure it out. The bartender quite literally ran off once he saw us walking in and one of us had to yell after him to say come back and where are you going?! He accused us of a crime, banned us from coming back, and then ran away?! Essentially the manager "didn't know what happened because he didn't make the drinks." Well, the guy who did just ran away like an angry child because he was too frustrated. Over the course of the conversation, the manager tried to say he would check the cameras and if we didn't pay we wouldn't be welcomed back. We asked him to check them at that moment. He didn't. We asked him to check the order on their tablet he said he couldn't see that information. Thankfully the one talking with him had used Toast before and told him yes you can. He checked, found one receipt and then said he wasn't finding the other one. He then tried to say that for the frustration this caused us, he would comp the receipt and we were allowed to come back if we ever wanted to. We asked, "Comp what?! If there is something we didn't pay for we will pay right now." He could not pull up any actual items that he had proof of us not paying for. On top of this, he would not admit to any fault on their part or apologize for the bartender's behavior and the way he spoke to us. He acted as though it was a frustrating incident for all parties involved. No sir, it was frustrating for us. You are fine. The bartender might not be fine. I think this is the first time he's had a woman call him out for lying or being a jerk. I'm sure it was quite a shock for him. read more

We've been to many whiskey tastings, and have no idea how they have so many stars. The small amounts of whiskey didn't really live up to the amount of money we paid. We even asked for another taste of one, and were told we were not allowed. We would have purchased some bottles, but didn't want to spend money on something we weren't sure we liked. $80 is a lot to pay for a few sips of whiskey. I mean isn't part of a tasting trying to get customers to purchase whiskey. Honestly the whole experience was pretty boring. read more

I came here with friends for a of couple cocktails, and it was a lovely experience! The tasting room was beautifully decorated with Colorado memorial and oak barrels. This would be a great place to entertain out of town guests. We also tried to small batch, honey whiskey that was so sweet and delicious. Service was wonderful and our bartender was very friendly! We stopped at the gift shop, and I purchased a candle in a repurposed whiskey bottle. There were cool and unique souvenirs like whiskey barrel, roasted coffee and wooden sunglasses. If I could rate just the tour it is a 5 star experience all the way. We went to the bar after the tour to sample some of the whiskeys we were contemplating buying including the "Founders" whiskeys that was $200 a bottle and a 1 oz shot for $40 in the bar. The bartender was snide and when asked a question he just pointed to a reprinted card and rudely stated, "it is right there" and walked off. We really enjoyed the whiskeys and we tried most of what Stranahan's had to offer in the bar. We went to their store and bought several bottles of whiskey including the allowance of the "Founder's" whiskey. Overall 5 stars for the tour and David. 2 stars for the service at the bar. Giving an average of 3 stars because I could not justify 4 stars with how poor the bar experience was. I would take the tour again in a heartbeat and possibly forego the bar experience after or hope to have a different server that had some enthusiasm over their job like they do for the tour. read more

Was looking for a place with distillery tours and found Stranahans. Never heard of them before being from California but decided to give it a try. I arrived early and got a flight of their old fashioned and was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Not too sweet at all like other places make but still very flavorful. When the tour started they gave us an etched glass with whiskey to start the tour. We got to try more types throughout the tour and even learned the proper way to smell and taste them. Chris our tour guide was very entertaining and very funny. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the whiskey and left with two of their 10yr bottles to take home. They also let you keep their really cool drunk proof shot glass. I had quite a bit to drink on the trip but felt totally fine the next morning. No headaches or hangover. Definitely top quality whiskey. I will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend you do the tour. For the same price as a tasting anywhere else you get a tour, tasting, and shotglass. I've had their Old Fashioned, Manhattans, and Whiskey Sours. This weekend, since I'm celebrating my birthday, I've decided to try one of their Spring drinks, Under The Yuzu Tree, made with Chrysanthemum tea and dried wildflowers, and it is PHENOMENAL! Due to open officially on March 8th, Stranahan's Whiskey Lodge in Aspen opened with a soft launch on Friday February 16th. The interior is very thoughtfully designed and evocative of what visitors think of as the American west. Stranahan's whiskey and Whiskey based cocktails are the only liquor served, but if whiskey is your thing, Stranahan's is your place. I was fortunate to meet George Stranahan and his wife at their Home ranch in Clark county several years ago. While there the master distiller showed up on a motorbike to serve a cocktail using fresh peaches which was quite awesome. I tried the smoked old fashioned and enjoyed it - prices by the way are reasonable and I could Imagine this as being a great location to meet for a pre-dinner or post-dinner drink with substance. A section in the corner has the range of Stranahan's available for purchase and some very cool experimental bottles - where different casks were used. All in all, a great start and i sincerely hope the team hold their standard as it should be on the list for anyone who enjoys a whiskey cocktail read more

A day late, a buck short? Isn't that a song lyric? Recently I attended my first whiskey tasting at Stranahan's and it was so much fun! You know they had me at snacks and live music right? Stranahan's definitely lived up to its hype? I only regret not checking it out sooner. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, with barrels and country decor that truly captured the full Colorado vibe. What really stood out were the offerings. The Snowflake whisky was a clear winner, truly capturing the essence of the region. The knowledgeable staff taught us so much about the aging process and kept the tasting truly engaging with information. Plus we won some swag Additionally, the bites were incredibly delicious and exceeded my expectations. Individual reviews on those as I work my way around town trying those spots. Finally, I must commend the exceptional service provided by the staff. The event was organized, checking in was a breeze and everyone was smiling... probably from the whisky lol Overall, I highly recommend this establishment for anyone looking for a memorable Colorado experience. We started out with a great tour, but made the mistake of getting a few more drinks at the cocktail bar. Everyone in our group who ordered cocktails ordered at the bar and closed out immediately (no open tabs). The bartender (didn't get his name but had black hair and black stubble) made 2 incorrect drinks which was caught immediately at the bar itself. He apologized and gave the correct drink. After finishing, we were about to leave in our uber, when the bartender came running out and accused us of not paying our "tab for the table". We reviewed the check which had multiple drinks we didn't order (also we all ordered separately), and told him we did not order these. He rudely snatched back the check and told us to never come back. We went inside to confront him about this incorrect accusation as we all happily paid for our drinks and he ran away and defaulted to his manager. The manager eventually seemed to understand the situation and welcomed us back if we wanted, but would not fully admit fault and instead said "we will COMP this check and let's move on". Comp what??? We paid for all our drinks??? Would NOT recommended the cocktail lounge. read more
