My wife and two other couples spent a Friday evening experiencing the Strange Bird Immersion Theater. We all went in pretty blind, and after walking the door...the fun started happening. Everyone had the best of times, lots of laughs and excitement. The skill, planning, and execution of everything, even down to the smallest detail, truly amazed us. Wow!!! First time to an escape room and the immersive theater aspect of it made it extra special. Went with my 88 year old mom and she actually solved one of the first puzzles. Maybe because she knew Houdini? :) She had no idea what this was all about but she thoroughly enjoyed it! We joined a family group and they had some experience in escape rooms. They made it fun and seemed to enjoy adding us to their family, and helping us solve puzzles. Loved all the dramatic theater bits and the actors were definitely committed to their parts. What a fabulous evening! This is part immersive theatre, part escape room all about a seance to reach the ghost of Houdini. The ambiance of the room is spot on. So much attention to detail. Also, the clues for escaping plus the special effects have great production value. You really get excited when a new clue is found as they are not very easy. This is easily one of the top escape rooms I've been to. The clues were very clever and the overall theme was well executed. There was lots of attention paid to atmosphere, down to the random signs in the waiting room. It's part escape room and part immersive theater, so be prepared to play through the story with Madame Daphne (who was simply wonderful.) read more

This place is amazing!!!! I was impressed before I even went there because they had such great customer service during the booking process. I kept sending them e-mails and they always replied back in a timely manner and were super helpful. To top it off, the experience itself was awesome!!! I had never been to an escape room before, but I was thoroughly impressed at the immersive experience and got really into it. It is way more fun if you "play along" with the actors because they like to involve you in the story as much as possible. The puzzles are fun and challenging without being impossible. I took my staff to Strange Bird as part of our Christmas party and was not sure what to expect. I must say that I and my staff thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The story line was very engaging. I've been to a fair number of escape rooms here in Houston (and one in New Orleans). The Man From Beyond is in a class by itself. Instead of an awkward desk worker, Madam Daphne greets you with a personalized gift and the option for a tarot reading. There's plenty to look at in the receiving room if you don't want to traffic with the occult. The room is exquisitely designed. It's custom crafted and sumptuously decorated, making for a beautiful space for a battle with the afterlife. The puzzles are more creative than the standard room. Rather than constantly hunting for number combinations, the puzzles are new and inventive, involving physical props (some of them spectacular and unusual, most of them hand-crafted) as well as sound and video clues. The details of Houdini's life and battle against mediums, in the meantime, unfolds slowly before the team. Each puzzle tells part of the story of Houdini's life and brings you closer to the man himself. Strange Bird Immersive is, truthfully, the link between the immersive theatre movement slowly making its way beyond New York City and the popular Escape Room genre. You'll get the chance to actually affect the outcome of the story by solving puzzles. You'll get an entire and moving story out of your attempt to escape the room. Although, to be honest, you might be eager to stay in the room even after you've solved the puzzles. read more

Wow! I have been to a lot of escape games in New York. I tried this one while I was visiting Houston and.... WOW! Honestly, I have no idea how they don't have a waiting list to get tickets. The acting is so good. The story makes sense and is interesting. The set is really impressive. The free drink is tasty and strong. Best of all, the escape game is challenging, but very fun. I'll admit that I was leery of attending an escape room combined with immersive theater. If you're the kind of person who thinks it's awkward to interact with actors, fear not. The direct actor interaction part of this escape room is only a small part of the overall experience. Don't let that scare you away from what I found was the best escape room I've ever been to. What you'll experience are innovative, challenging, and exceptionally well thought out puzzles that integrate seemlessly with the Houdini theme. No math homework cyphers here. I did this experience twice, and I loved it both times. The first time I went with a friend in a group of adults. Solving the puzzles with strangers was so fun, and I loved the immersive aspect. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I decided to bring a group of students as a bonding activity. They loved it! It was so much fun watching them do the same puzzles I had done a month before and working together. They got really into the immersive aspect as well. A great way for theatre students to expand their definition of what theatre is. Seriously, everything is impeccably planned and executed.
