I've done about 4-5 escape rooms, and this one was the most immersive I recommend giving yourself 10-15 minutes to find the place. Finding it was kind of like a mini-escape room in itself! You go through an entrance that kind of looks like a hotel building ish. You'll still be outside and inside an elevator Theme: you'll figure out what happened to houdini. And right from the get go (when you do find the actual place), it feels incredibly immersive In terms of difficulty, this one one of the more easier ones. I went with 3 other people who have never done an escape room before, and we all succeeded. Some challenging puzzles but nothing you can't figure out with some trial and error This feels a little more on the pricier side ($64/person), but you semi-interact with the "staff" (where most escape rooms they leave you alone). But all in all, probably the most unique one I've done! read more

Strange Bird is located in a small suite inside of a large office complex so directions are definitely needed to find your way. Once there, the escape room is a wonderful way to spend a hot summer afternoon in the cool a/c and out of the Houston heat! There's a clean and bright minimalistic waiting area with clever quirky riddles, bird pics and signs on the walls. (Sidenote: the bathroom is a time portal so be careful). When the escape room event begins Madame Daphne comes out to greet your group and leads you to her tarot reading room where she does readings for about 2 people after handing each person a liability waiver that's kept in their own personalized box, each disguised as a book she pulls from her bookshelf. You crumble your waiver up and throw it in the birdcage with her co-worker Sir Walter, who is in charge of the forms. Each person puts their belongings away for safekeeping in Madame Daphne's wardrobe. It's recommended to put your cellphone away but you are allowed to keep it in case you feel you might need your flashlight. That is the only reason you are to use your cell phone once inside. When everyone's items are stored away and after going over the rules, Madame Daphne leads you into her seance parlor. She uses your group's help to channel the ghosts of Harry Houdini and strange things begin to occur as Houdini confirms he's in the room with you. He demands that Madame Daphne leave and you and your group are then left to solve various clues to free his ghost and yourselves from the escape room. The sound and visual effects, realistic props and stellar acting by the individuals who portray Madame Daphne and the ghost of Harry Houdini make this a truly immersive experience. First of all, I am 76 years old. Our daughter brought us out-of-towners to experience The Man From Beyond, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. From the preliminary seance to the search for the solution to the final reckoning, everything was very professionally done, well thought out, and exciting to experience. We had such an amazing time at Strange Bird. We did The Man From Beyond with a party of five and had so much fun. The room was reasonably challenging, but we were able to piece most of it together without too much help. The crew were very talented and did quite a bit to create the mood and the story, and there were points where all of us were completely taken in. That said, not too frightening, so this experience is one I'd recommend to even those who are a bit jumpy. We managed to complete the room and finish with smiles on our faces. I'd echo the other comments in saying that if you've never done an escape room before, beware: this one will set the bar pretty high. Did someone say Game Night? Excellent option for a game night with friends and/or family. We have tried several escape rooms, and this by far has been the best yet. Actors make these experiences truly what it is, and the actors here entertained us every last minute. The story line helps keep the audience engaged and wanting us to solve every piece to the puzzle to have a successful seance of Houdini. It truly was a successful evening of entertainment and delightfulness. Parking may be tricky if you go at night. There is a coded gate so you may need to phone to get access onto the property. It was a very unique escape room experience. There is a story which actors act out. The puzzles were neat and the locks work well so you're never wondering if you didn't figure out the puzzle or just didn't work the lock correctly. This was my first escape room and I'm afraid I set the bar somewhat high. This particular escape room mixes in elements of immersive theater, creating a unique and memorable experience. Personally, immersive theater is hit or miss for me. I like watching actors in close proximity but don't like interacting closely with them. In this case, the interaction was minimal and the actors were mostly just used to elevate the storyline. Obviously, I want to avoid spoilers here. I'll just say that everything was very well done. It wasn't just a room where you solve puzzles to escape -- there was an interesting and distinct narrative that culminated in a fulfilling way. USEFUL (HOPEFULLY) INFO: -While I was trying to plan my boyfriend's birthday, it was tough to know how many attendees we'd ultimately have. I knew that if I waited too long, we'd lose the slot. I was advised to make a reservation for the minimal # of people required (4) to reserve the date/time. Later, I was able to e-mail and add additional people. You do need to provide names when you book. -The # of people allowed is 4-8. We had 5 and it was perfect. We felt like 8 people would have been too much. One of the biggest challenges is seeking clues separately but also coordinating solutions with your team (since everything is ultimately connected). We felt like it'd be too chaotic/disorganized with 8 people. -Keep in mind that tickets are non-refundable. We had a person drop out at the last minute, unfortunately. If you can, keep them posted on such changes since they do customize the experience for each guest. -Customer service is great. Very responsive and thorough. Check the FAQ on their website first but feel free to e-mail them with any questions/concerns. When you do arrive though, there is no one to greet you. Keep that in mind -- you won't be able to ask questions at the front desk or anything. The experience begins when a door opens, at your scheduled time. -There is a space to leave your stuff, if you don't want to bring it with you to the actual escape room (you can). There is an interim area (once the experience begins) where you are given that option. -Bathrooms are available in the front area, as well as water. Don't overdo it on the water since you'd have to leave the escape room to use the bathroom. -Parking is super easy as the location is in a quiet office center. Highly recommended for fans of escape rooms or anyone looking for a unique experience! read more

Waited a long time for this one, and it was worth the wait (and drive). Quirky and clever, there were some fun surprises that made for an escape room experience like no other. My one complaint (quite commonly) is the number of people in the room. 8 is too many for an experienced group, 4 would have been perfect. I like to touch every puzzle and I didn't get that satisfaction, there was too much down time and we still finished with lots of time left. Despite that, if they open more rooms, we'll be back. Probably one of the best escape rooms I've ever been to! The staff does an excellent job in immersing you into the theme from the beginning and all the way through. Also, the room itself is so inventive! There are so many gadgets and puzzles and creative ways to get people to work together. It honestly feels like you're Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider figuring out all these puzzles and watching things actually happen when you solve them. I also love that you get a complimentary cocktail in the beginning (if you're 21 of course). Even waiting for your whole party to arrive, it feels like you've already begun something mysterious and amazing. We walk into an empty suite, with no one to greet us. The experience has already begun. True to their word, Strange Bird Immersive is about so much more than escaping a room. When we find Madame Daphne, I feel a nervous excitement for the next sequence of events, as I have no idea what to expect. Her study has the right lighting to set the mood and beautifully written nuggets of medium wisdom, and the time we spend there contains elements that make it feel like a custom experience just for us. Even waiver signing integrates seamlessly with the story. When the seance begins, it's so immersive that I'm only comforted by the knowledge that...this is an escape room and not real? And as we proceed through puzzles, I'm amazed by the custom set pieces that fit with the Houdini theme, the incredible use of lighting and sound, and how we uncover more secrets as we proceed. I even grow to care about what happens to Madame Daphne. By the end, I've gone through a diverse array of emotions--dread, sadness, hope, intrigue. Out of the over 100 rooms I've completed, there have only been two other rooms (Lab Rat in Los Angeles and Storykeeper in Seattle) that evoked such feelings, where I felt like I was transported into a new world and became part of the story. As an escape room enthusiast that appreciates a good story, I traveled from the Bay Area to Houston just for this room, and it was well worth it. AMAZING. Simply incredible. Beyond fabulous and so very well done. Six friends and I just celebrated my birthday this weekend by visiting the Strange Bird Immersive. I could not have been more impressed by the set up, the ambience, the props, the room, and the actors! While I am no escape room expert, I am a huge fan and mildly addicted... This is my fifth escape room and by far and beyond the best that I have experienced! Madame Daphne was inviting and oh so mysterious... charming and slightly frightening all at the same time. She pulled us into her world immediately upon entering the room....And we all willingly jumped down the rabbit hole! The addition of actores to the escape room concept is simply brilliant and both actors were marvelous and very convincing. The puzzles and clues were well thought out and nicely set up so that we never felt lost in our pursuit. The devices were definitely much more clever than any other room that I have experienced, though all in all solving the puzzle was a bit easier than I expected. We finished the story with a full 20 minutes remaining. I loved it so much that I want to do it again which makes no sense seeing as I already know how the story ends... it was just such an awesome experience! read more

My group of 8 had completed 10-25 escape rooms, ranging from the grimy, under-developed rooms with little production value, to the high-quality, high-tech experiences. Across the board, our group agreed this was the best escape room we've been a part of. The mystery begins the moment you enter the particularly clean, well-decorated lobby. Snap an 'Grammable pic with the Raven wings when you're there. Make sure to look around a bit, there are Easter Eggs littered in the lobby also. The game itself is absolutely spectacular. We usually rate our escape room experiences in three categories: Production Value, Story Value, and Puzzle Design. The Man from Beyond excels in all three categories. "Tech-Head" escape room goers will love the various machinations that whizz, boop and boom throughout the experience. Those that gravitate toward an immersive story will not find another room that gets you invested as much as Strange Bird Immersive does. The puzzle design provides real challenges, but will not leave you frustrated or with a feeling of "unfairness." Overall, an incredible experience that's probably worth more than you'll pay. A friend and I went to this last night. I didn't know what to expect and didn't really think it would be my kind of thing but it blew all those notions out of the water. From entering the door with a personal code into a room drenched with atmosphere, I was excited and intrigued. From there it was delightful, fun, challenging and entertaining. Working with the other participants became very natural and rewarding as we figured out all the clues together. it was also a very interesting story that you become engaged in--a historical mystery and love story with video, audio, puzzles and special effects. Very impressed. This experience just knocked my socks off. Totally worth it. Unlike any escape room I'd tried before, this one has a *very* real, well-developed and deeply integrated story and sense of setting that conveys genuine emotion and excitement beyond just the thrill of solving puzzles (though it still has plenty of that too). And as you solve puzzles and events unfold, it actually makes sense why it's happening that way--it isn't just a bunch of random puzzles glued together. The feeling of resolution at the end was really touching. Unlike any immersive theater I'd tried before, this one let my group really get in there and explore with true agency--it has all kinds of cool decoration and and curios like other immersive theater spaces, but here, most of them actually *do* something if you can figure it out. The surprises and special effects are satisfying. And it has *astonishingly* high production values. Seriously, I'd never seen an escape room even *close* to this well put together before. Also, the puzzles don't suck--if you've been to a bunch of other rooms, maybe you know what I mean. The puzzles here aren't child's play, but they depend on clever insight more than solving tedious "homework" problems. Escape rooms don't get much better than this! Set design was an absolute delight. The entry parlor appropriately sets the tone/mood for what is to come. Madame Daphne graciously offered tarot readings to guests as we were all meandering in. As with all escape rooms, the quality of the experience can be heightened or dampened by the willingness of other guests to get into the character and spirit of the event. I suggest going with as many friends as possible. Be brave, lose yourself in the moment and have fun interacting with Madam Daphne. The escape room comfortably fit our group of nine (three of us and 6 strangers). I felt like everyone got an equal opportunity to assist in solving puzzles, which was nice. The escape room experience is a mix of puzzles, live acting, and special effects, but I don't want to give away too much. Hardcore puzzle aficionados might be slightly disappointed in the complexity or difficulty of the puzzles. That being said, everything is appropriately difficult to keep people interested and occupied. Some room escape adventures devolve into chaos, but I felt this one went well and guests were able to stay on point. Solving the room is more rewarding than just escaping! Really really well planned, built, and executed. At no time did the immersive experience ever get broken. The actors did a fantastic job, and everything worked like it should. This escape room is very different from all the others. It's a whole experience and storyline. I feels almost like real detective work. I very much enjoyed it, would do it again, and would recommend.
