Yesterday I bought two bags of bird food from Strathmann's Ace store at $16.99 each. I stopped at another ACE store down the road on Welsh Road and I saw the same exact product for $1.00 Less for $15.99. Since it was at 6 p.m. and the store was already closed, I went back the next day and asked that they refund me the $2.00 difference, which they refused. Happily I returned them back to the store and went and bought them at the other ace store. This time I bought five extra bags for all of my neighbors. Beware of this greedy place. Went in this past Sunday to see if they had a replacement for my tried and true Craftsman 1/2" ratchet, which gave up earlier that week. The youngsters gaggling at the front check out were very unsure, and one ventured a guess about calling an 800 number, then offered to check with the owner/manager. I decided to look in the tool aisle to at least see what they had on-hand. While looking to see what they had, the aforementioned owner/manager asked if I needed help. As soon as I revealed that I was attempting to make good on that Famous Craftsman Lifetime Warranty on Hand Tools©®, her reaction was to announce reasons for not helping: "We don't honor the Craftsman warranty in this store," "Did you buy it here?" "Do you have a receipt?" "No, we don't do warranty replacements," and a few more very unhelpful comments. Topped off with an ample serving of aggression. I could see this was going nowhere so I walked out. What I found out after doing a little googling---and it would have been nice if the store staff could have told me---is that stores are only obligated to replace a broken Craftsman hand tool under the lifetime warranty if they have the item in stock. Of course, the model of 1/2" ratchet sold in 1975 V44385 is not going to be hanging there in 2025 (although the virtually identically-styled breaker bars are STILL being sold LOL), so it's almost certain you're going to have to get ahold of Craftsman customer service to get it fixed/replaced. In case YOU have an older broken hand tool covered by the Craftsman Lifetime Warranty, go to www.craftsman.com/warranty and call the listed 888 number (888-331-4569) or fill out their online support form. In my case, I filled out the form and received an email notice from Craftsman in less than 24 hours saying a replacement ratchet has been ordered and will be delivered within 2 weeks. While this store is convenient there is an older man working there that is a rude know-it-all. I watched him berate a young employee in front of customers. I took a screen in to be rescreened and got a call back that he could not do it. When I went in to pick it up there were more holes in it than when I took it in. He loudly insisted that no I brought it in like that. I know I didn't since the holes were all in the bottom part from a dog scratching it - the top of it was completely fine. read more

I was out with my daughter and granddaughter and my granddaughter (3years) had to use a bathroom. The "friendly folks" at Ace Hardware refused to let a three year old use their "employees only" bathroom. Because it was "only for employees " and "if we let one person use the bathroom we have to let everyone use it ". SHE IS THREE YEARS OLD. And potty-trained for six months. Frankly, if i had taken my granddaughter in to use their bathroom-when they refused I would have had my granddaughter pee on their floor so they would have had a hazmat cleanup situation. Of all the most UNFRIENDLY alleged "customer service " i have ever experienced, this was the worst. I'm never going there again, and I would advise you to stay away as well. I purchased an indoor digital timer by Prime company for 17.99 on March 9 and my wife and I tested the device up until today March 16. We had a lamp inserted into the timer and it only turned On but never turned Off. I went today to get a refund because the timer was defective and the owner refused. It was less than 30 days but I did not keep the packaging of the item so they could redisplay it for sale. If the item is defective why would he want to resell it? He did not care that I explained the issue and told him my wife also tried to get the item to work but it also failed. There is no customer service, no care for what was said as our explanation. I wasn't trying to get to take advantage of him or steal from them just wanted my 17.99 back. No care or concern from them. So I will not go back there again, as others have mentioned go to other True Value stores in Richboro or Huntingdon Valley. read more

This is the first and only time I will shop here, I was working nearby and my wife needed a santa hat I stopped in and purchased one for $6.88, it turns out I didn't need it when I tried to return it (with the recipient) they said they couldn't because there was no tag but they said come back in an hour when the owner was there so I left and when I was done at the building I was working I stopped back they asked the owner and again said they could not take it back because it didn't have a tag, as I told them it wasn't that they can't it that they wouldn't. At that point a male sales person asked if I had an Ace member card I said I didn't he said it's because I wouldn't, what a jerk. We have been going here for more than 20 years. They carry a lot of the items I use or need. However they are not what I would call customer service oriented. For example, today I was driving from Cherry Hill and needed straw to cover seed on the lawn. I called Strathmann to see if they had any. YOU CANT TALK TO ANYONE BY PHONE!! I called True Value in Richboro. They answered right away and told me they had 2 bags left. I went there, paid my $30 and they even loaded it into my car. I think True Value May now become my new go to place. Strathmann should rethink their phone policy. As a customer I hate driving to a store to find out they don't have what I wanted. Sure they have some less than satisfied customers, but they are not the only store around that does. Tried to explain that I didn't realize it wouldn't work for me until I read instructions which were inside package. Staff at Strathman's Hardware are arrogant, confrontational and absolutely unrealistic. I never had any issues returning items that didn't meet my needs at other hardware or home improvement stores and I've never been treated as badly as I was at Strathman's Hardware . I usually stop in because it's local The selection is good enough for most of my hardware needs and I like the small family store feel. The only gripe I would have is - Don't get your keys cut there. I noticed when the woman was cutting someone else's keys that she was very amateur at it. When she saw my 2 sided car key, she said that another guy would do it so I was a bit relieved. When the guy saw my keys, he said that he couldn't guarantee them if he cut them from my "copy". I went ahead anyway and I could immediately see that his skills are no better, but I was not going to offer any tips simply because I thought that the key might work anyway . . . Well - It didn't and I can see that this new key is cut fatter and more hastily then the original. My advice is to have a pro come in and teach them how it's done. read more

This is not your typical lumber yard and hardware store. My hubby has shopped here for those things, but when I visit, I go to the other side. During the spring and summer, the outside is filled with flowers and plants for sale. Inside you will find home decor, lamps, some kitchen gadgets, silk flowers and garden supplies. My favorite things are the year around decorations, they have for the holidays. They have the most awesome displays and the largest selections in town. At Christmas they set up outdoor displays that are all lit up, cheerful and merry and folks from all over come by to check them out. Family owned and operated, so very friendly and helpful. A woman had to have designed this store, because men automatically go towards the right of the store and women veer to the left. read more

Strathman's is an "attractive nuisance." Its location is very convenient but its prices and service are decidedly subpar. As a recent example, I stopped in looking for plant hangers, which they were selling for $30. I found a better quality (heavier metal basket and thicker chain) version at Home Depot for $8. The high prices are not justified by exquisite service. On those occasions when I have found a salesperson on the floor, s/he has merely rattled off an aisle number for the item I sought. This approach is in stark contrast to Lowe's where the sales associates are happy to educate you on the relative merits of choices. As others have noted, they do not answer their phones and are irrational about returns/exchanges. Mr. M picked up incorrect size bolts (loose) and tried to exchange them for the correct size (same day, with receipt) and they refused to allow the exchange. read more

It is true. Most of the floor employees do not know what products do, nor if they are even available. The phone service is just awful. I've called several times asking for a product by name, even telling the girl ( always a young girl's voice, not woman) where I saw it in the store, and she always says there are none left. When I go the next day, it is there. I'll give them a star over the Huntingdon Valley Fisher's Ace Hardware, though. At Fisher's, the associates make fun of you while you are still in the store and you can hear them. If you call them on it, they literally throw you out. Here, the floor associates don't know anything but they are at least sheepish and will ask you what you know, so they can know. Kind of the opposite of what hardware stores should be. read more

NOT COVID FRIENDLY AS ADVERTISED!!! Ordered something online for curb side pickup. Ace isn't usually my first choice, as the staff at this particular location are historically rude. They advertised curbside pickup though, I needed one particular item, so this was the safest way for me to quickly get what I needed safely (this is during the worst surge of COVID cases so far and I have an autoimmune disease). When I arrived that the location, the employee came just out of the door and waved me over. I said "are you saying I have to come to you?" and he answered "Yes, that's all you paid for." I had to get out and go near the store and other shoppers (in the rain...probably why he didn't feel like coming over to me) to get the item anyway. Never again Strathmann's. Get with the times and learn how to provide customer-centric service. read more

I've tried so hard to give this local business a chance. After today, they've lost that chance. I paid for a wheel barrel and was told it would be up soon. After 10 minutes I inquired and someone said they would get it. An additional 10 minutes later I inquired again and an older man said that I didn't tell him what I needed...twenty minutes waiting and I'm being insulted. Turns out they had none left in stock. They would not return it,,,we had it 4 days, did not use it because the parts were falling apart and it could not be assembled !!! 4+ years ago I vowed to never patronize Strathmann's Ace Hardware again. Sunday, with my elderly mother in the car I felt it would be quicker to run in and get some primer. So I swallowed my pride and to my surprise I even found the primer on $ale. Yeah me...NOT. I opened the primer to find a film on it. Thought it was odd but what the heck, let's stir it anyway. There was obviously something wrong. It was extremely clumpy and thick. It came off the brush in clumps. Today, with my receipt I went to swap out the primer for another can, assuming maybe this was a bad batch. Now I remember why I said I would never patronize this HORRIBLE EXCUSE OF A RETAIL STORE AGAIN. "We don't accept returns on anything opened" a sweet young girl at the register says. However, don't even try to call them for help-how to use something you bought there, if they have an item, suggestions for tools for a project--anything at all. Strathmann is the closest store of it's type to me, so it gets a star for location...it can be very convenient at times. The two major issues I have are the phones and their pricing. I couldn't even begin to calculate how much business they have lost from me over the years because they absolutely do not answer the phone during business hours...ever. I am fairly familiar with what they carry, but if I am unsure, there is no way to ask so I end up trekking to Home Depot instead. Their average pricing seems to be slightly higher than larger stores, but is often worth not having to drive as far to get what I need. Be EXTREMELY careful with larger non-hardware/hand tool type items though! I have attempted, but declined to purchase many larger items there because they were priced more than 100% higher than any other local retailer for the exact same item. I have called them out on this many times, and their response has been that the owner already knows, and it's not going to change. Good Luck! read more

I called the number on the receipt. The voice mail actually said that they are too busy helping customers in the store to answer their phone. I have never seen more than 5 in the store at one time! DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! MANAGER IS BOTH LAZY AND A LIAR! I ordered chairs off line which said they were available for same day pick up in this particular location. I drove 40 minutes out of my way to find out they are not available! Manager was not in store and said, "you would have to call the customer service department, because it has nothing to do with this store, it was a warehouse issue." She took no responsibility nor felt any remorse for this incident. I call customer service and come to find out that this store manager didn't update her inventory like the other stores, hence why it said the chairs were available the same day on line, when other locations said they wouldn't be available until a later date. Now I have to cancel my order, which will take 7-10 business days to be reimbursed back to my Pay Pal Account, reorder them and have them shipped to a location more local to my house. SHAME ON YOU! Luckily the woman in customer service, Ruthie, was a little more compassionate and offered me $25 off the purchase for my inconvenience. read more
