Holy fuck! These are the best wings I've ever had! The crisp is the hear you can get in them and the flavors are amazing. I remember straw hat pizza being really good back in the 80's. Had to try it out, I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed it was a little over $20 for a medium cheese and for it to be subpar. There's frozen pizzas that tastes better than the medium cheese pizza I got. I ordered online using Yelp Eat 24 and ordered two large pizzas (15 inches) with one being the Classic Veggie Pan Pizza ($20.99) and the other was Straw Hat's "The Works" Pan Pizza ($20.99). The estimated pick up was about 30 minutes so I waited until it was five minutes before my pick up to drive over. Parking was not a problem as there was plenty around the Plant. Inside, there were a few people eating and I didn't see anybody at the front. There was only one person in the back working and cooking. I waited a couple of minutes before she came out to ask what I needed. I told her I was there to pick up my order and she told me it would be another five minutes. I waited for another ten minutes and it still wasn't ready so I continued to wait. Apparently, there were two others on break that were just now coming back. I eventually paid for my pizzas and left. I felt that was a lot longer of a wait than it should have been. The Classic Veggie Pan Pizza was just okay but the Straw Hat's "The Works" Pan Pizza was great. I would definitely recommend the Straw Hat's "The Works" Pan Pizza if you want a lot of meat. I wouldn't mind coming back to try other pizzas on the menu. read more

I am out here in SJ on vacation and wanted Straw Hat pizza like I used to get back in the 70's and 80's. I ordered a large combination for pickup. When I arrived my pizza was fresh and hot and smelled delicious. The owner Suleman was very nice and gracious. He made me feel like I had known him for years and is very good with customers. Ordered from DoorDash without checking Yelp first... my mistake. This was the only place open around 8:45pm on a Friday night that had what my boyfriend was craving, and Italian sub. And after waiting almost an hour for it, the "Italian sub" was just truly pathetic and hilarious. You know the diced toppings and meat you usually get on a pizza? Imagine that--tiny, diced meat an toppings--very stingily sprinkled inside of a sub roll. Please see the attached photo for details. We has also asked for mustard and pickles on the sandwich and they were not added. All that disappointment for $9.49. I got a chicken bacon ranch hot hat (essentially a calzone) which, in contrast, was stuffed with toppings... but mostly onions. Onion lovers only, onion haters need not apply. If you would not want to bite into a calzone and taste primarily red onions, this is not the menu item for you. The photo on DoorDash showed the hot hats with potato wedges; they came with a bag of Lays potato chips, and this item was $9.49 as well. Straw Hat was on my friend's list of positives, so he called and got put on hold by the girl who answered, and waited. And waited. Meanwhile, I commented that I've never actually said "No" when the callee asks if I can hold. Common courtesy and all. But by this point, Friend #1 had been on hold for over 10 minutes, and he commented that he's never seen this place busy. Something was definitely wrong. THE BAD: ----------------- So while Friend #1 was still waiting, Friend #2 called, the same girl asked her if she could hold, and she replied "No"! Friend #2 then got hung up on! Friend #3's turn to call. She also stated firmly that she would not hold, and the Straw Hat girl, probably annoyed at this point, actually took her order! 30 seconds to place the order, and done. That's all we were asking for, Straw Hat. Rude customer service = Strike One. Unfortunately, despite my buddy's place being only 4 miles from Straw Hat, his zip code was not one that Straw Hat delivers to. Dumb delivery policy = Strike Two. I went with my buddy to pick up the pizzas (and sure enough, the place wasn't busy). He had a coupon for 2 large pizzas and a medium pizza (all one topping each, except Hawaiian which is technically two toppings), which came out to $42 after tax. Not a terribly great deal, and the pizzas themselves were average-tasting and just lukewarm by the time we brought them home. Overpriced, mediocre pizza = Strike Three. THE GOOD: ----------------- So why am I giving this place get an A-OK rating? First, the person who rang us up was an older guy who was pretty friendly. I asked for a bunch of parmesan and red pepper packets, and he cheerfully gave me more than I asked for. Second, their restaurant is clean and has snazzy LCD menus, and there's even a small arcade with a few games and a mechanical pony ride. Great for kids. There are widescreen TV's here so you can watch whatever sports games are currently on. Third, beer on tap! They've got the beer and pizza thing down. Finally, they have a $6 lunch pizza buffet with salad! $6 was each person's share of the pizzas tonight, and I was still hungry afterward! I wanted to order one personal pepperoni pizza and one small cheese pizza. The cheese pizza would be for my hubby's lunch for Friday (we're going meatless on all the Fridays of Lent). Upon ordering the person at the counter said they were not taking any pizza orders- just serving personal pan pizzas, one free per person. They were accomodating enough to make me a fresh pan pizza but were not able to make my small pizza. While the restaurant was clean, staff friendly the pizza tasted horrible. Don't get me wrong- ingredients were fresh but it tasted like cafeteria style pizza. The cheese was salty, the pepperoni greasy and the crust was airy but not in a good way. I love pizza and with the many pizza options locally I can honsetly say I won't be back. Service and food was great!! Thank you so much sunny for accommodating my huge party.!! Originally was supposed to be 10 kids, but it turned out to be 26 people over all. Great communication from start to end. It was perfect! My daughter had a blast with all her friends. Sunny held the cake for me and had the pizzas ready on the table as we all walked in. The pizzas they have are relatively small but I like the vegetarian pizza, which I almost always ask if they'll make one and they do. We ordered the special 2 Medium pizza with 2 toppings for $20. We got pepperoni and pineapple, and the second pizza had ham and olives. We had to wait about 30 minutes for our pizzas. There was a decent amount of toppings, which was great. The crust was crispy on the bottom and it was a tasted a bit denser compared to other places. The tomato sauce was ok. Spent $60 on 2 large pizzas that were not in any way up to par, I had to double check to be sure it wasn't a medium. Missing toppings, dough was "dead" as in not prepared correctly from freezer.
