The huge turn off was walking in and not even being greetedby the girl at the register. Giovanni's is a neighborhood pizza joint that I would choose over chains like Pizza Hut and Domino's on any given day. My boyfriend and I are creatures of habit when it comes to Giovanni's. Giovanni's Pizza is the pinnacle of comfort food for me, because the pizza is always done right. We get our pizza with mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni - maybe the occasional extra cheese pizza because I simply like plain ol' cheese pizza, too. The pizza is solid... Straight up... No frillz... No bells and whistles... No gourmet experience nor adventurous flavors... Just a solid pizza to satiate that craving for the moment. The staff members at Giovanni's have always provided me excellent customer service. The delivery man, whom I've also seen working in the kitchen, is an incredibly nice person. The woman, whom I usually see doing administrative work and manning the cash register whenever I swing by to pick up my order, is very friendly as well. These two individuals have got to be the hardest working folks, because it appears that they run the small business entirely themselves. My husband and I only live a few blocks from Giovanni's. This used to be our go to pizza place, but they have changed hands and the quality has definitely gone downhill. We tried it soon after the new owners took over and were very disappointed in the pizza - the onions and mushrooms on the pizza were raw, they hadn't even been cooked. It has been several months since that episode, so we decided to give them another chance tonight. We won't be going back. We ordered a large supreme to go. On the positive side, they do put a lot of ingredients on the pizza, but the pizza was barely cooked. The crust dough was almost raw and again the veggies were almost raw and the cheese was barely melted. I don't understand why they can't leave the pies in the pizza oven a little longer. Love this pizza! Tasty and fresh every time we order. We get their Supreme pizza which is a standard "combination pizza" but you can customize toppings. We like to add pineapple. I first passed by this place on the way to a friend's house a while back, and made a mental note to file it away for later reference. As it turned out, when I was looking for a new place to try that hadn't gotten many reviews, this place came up. I had been craving Italian food in general, so one day, for my lunch break at work, I ordered a small all-meat pizza (most of which I saved for dinner) and a meatball sandwich for carryout. This place definitely looks like a charming hole-in-the-wall without actually being in a wall - it's at the corner of a store block. Inside is nice and cozy, but I imagine it would get pretty loud when it's full. Probably not a place I would come for a sit-down, but that's of secondary importance where pizza's concerned anyway. The meatball sandwich was a bit of a surprise for me. Most places I've seen have done their meatball sandwiches more submarine-style (or Italian-style - there's been some debate as to which term originated first), but this place seems to have gone for a larger and more square-ish roll. My first thought was it looked like what you would get if you took a cheesesteak sandwich, overloaded it with meat, and pressed it until the side of the roll that wasn't cut naturally separated into two halves. This wasn't a bad thing in the least - the sandwich was still tasty and very filling. The pizza was also interesting. I like that they were controlled with the toppings so that I didn't have to worry about everything falling off, and the crust was just right. What was a little odd for me (and I'm not sure if eating the meatball sub first had something to do with this) is that I felt a little like the cheese and the sauce overpowered the toppings some. There were a couple of bites where I felt like I couldn't really taste the meat, even though I know I'd had some pepperoni and sausage. This wasn't the case as much later on, when I had the rest of the pizza for dinner, but I definitely tasted the sauce more than the meat. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad - the sauce is definitely well seasoned with herbs and a little bit of spice, but the lack of balance between the flavors did take a little bit of getting used to. This was pretty good food. Not quite on the level of something I'd go out of my way for with other comparable options more convenient to me, but defintely something I'll keep in mind if I'm hungry and in the neighborhood. read more

I really like this place. Very woodsy inside and lots of room. I had a supreme with linguisa and was very happy with the taste. The furniture is a bit rustic and I tried three chairs trying to find one that didn't have a wobble but couldn't. So I sat in my wobbly chair and loved my pizza. I ended up taking three pieces home for dinner but unfortunately forgot to label it so my wife ate them. I'll be back :) Service was speedy. The pie took about 10 to 15 and came out of the oven nice and hot. I had raspberry iced tea and it was kept full. Great lunchtime spot! read more

Eventually I got the order and blitzed back to work. The Pie was still hot when I sat to eat, what a disappointment! Crust was still white and Dowey, the Jalapeños were still to hot decayed they were undercooked. I was damned hungry and 'wolfed' down half the pie! Took the other half home! The pizza was ready when we arrived, but I was confused by the results of my order of a combo pizza. It ended up being a meat combo, not the pizza I actually wanted.
