You can never go wrong with the service and quality at Home Eat. This was my first time at the downtown location. We arrived around 7pm and were seated immediately. It's easy to order through your phone and the food comes out pretty quickly. I never have any complaints about home eat it's such great comfort food!

I really loved: Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken Wing I loved: Cumin Lamb I really liked: Ma Po Tofu W/Pork I liked: Honey Walnut Shrimp Sichuan High Wok Sauteed Greens Beef & Scallion Dumplings Yunnan Rice Noodle Soup W/Pork And Pickled Cabbage Home Eat is a solid Chinese spot with a lot of good dishes. The salted egg yolk fried chicken wings were awesome. They come out looking super red, but they are not spicy. Great flavor, super good, and very yummy. The cumin lamb was excellent too. It had a little spice, but not too bad, and the lamb was really soft. The mapo tofu with pork was good, but very spicy. The tofu itself was good. The Sichuan high wok was tasty, but it got spicier and spicier the more I ate it, so just be ready for that. Honey walnut shrimp came out very crispy and the sauce was light. The flavor was not too bad, but the shrimp flavor did not come through as much. The Yunnan rice noodle soup with pork and pickled cabbage was good, and the soup itself had nice flavor, but I wish it had more meat. Beef and scallion dumplings were average. Sauteed greens were solid and definitely necessary to balance out the meal. Service was relatively quick, which was nice since we ordered a good amount of food. Everything came out at a good pace, and the meal felt easy overall. Nothing too fancy on the service side, but it got the job done. The inside feels like a big cafeteria. It is fine, but not really a place you go for ambiance. It was also a little hot inside, which made the spicy dishes feel even spicier. Overall, Home Eat is a good spot for flavorful Chinese food, especially if you like spicy dishes and salted egg yolk fried chicken wings.

Late night grub hub cravings... Food: Panfried beef dumplings: B+ These came out pretty good, the skin texture wasn't too thick, the filling was little under seasoned, but was satisfied with the end product. Pork and shrimp dumplings: C The dumpling skin on these were a bit too thick, perhaps to hold up the integrity of the dumpling for this method of preparation. The filling was also under seasoned. Beef wrap: B This one is a interesting dish, the exterior is similar to a roti, and the filling was like a braised beef. I think this one has potential, but I probably need to have a fresh one at the store front. They have a extensive menu, I definitely have to try out the other options they have to offer in near future. - John

I visit this place often for lunch with my colleague. We usually share a veggie + tofu chow mein together since she is vegetarian. This place has always been accommodating with my colleague's diet. This place is always clean and the workers are very welcoming once you walk in. I also love how they have the utensils on each table so you don't have to keep asking for them.

I will always stand by the fact that I think one of the most cringiest facts of NorCal is that their restaurants close super early and if you're a night owl, you're kind of screwed, but thank god Home Eat isn't one of those places! It's located in Downtown San Jose near the park (Park Con) and the convention center (walking distance) and is open fairly late especially compared to other eateries in Bay Area. Menu is quite expansive with a wide, diverse range of dishes, portions are huge, and there's lots of tables and seating. Very big restaurant. Recommend hitting up during Fanime. Even later at night, around 2 hours before closing, the restaurant was decently busy. Despite this the food came out decently quickly and the service was super efficient. We got the spicy Mongolian whole lamb pot with a side of rice and that dish was far more than enough for 2 people, even if it was the small portion. It comes with stewed lamb on the bone. bean sprouts, napa cabbage, tomato, scallions, bok choy, and vermicelli. Not super spicy, it's the chili oily type of Chinese spicy if you know what I mean and there's a slight sour taste to it from the sauerkraut that I think was also included. The lamb meat was super tender and slid off the bone. With the denseness of the soup, goes great with rice. Not something I'd eat on my own but I don't mind coming back to try more of their menu. They were also nice enough to give us complimentary oranges as dessert! That's how you know that they're legit.

HOME EAT IS SO FREAKING GOOD!!! Get their salted egg yolk chicken wings..this is my go to!!! So delicious..salty..and flavorful!!! The saltiness is so good I don't know how to describe it. You need to try it!!! I've gotten the chance to try all their fried chicken and all of the flavors are great but salted egg yolk is my favorite..their regular chicken kinda tastes like peaking sauce..yum!!! Can't go wrong with any of the fried chicken from here. The chow mein is also very good. You don't need to add soy sauce or hot sauce to the chow mein..it's good on its own..most chow mein is rarely good on its own but this chow mein is bomb as is. Parking can be a little tricky depending on when you go..there's street parking and the restaurant is right below a parking structure. I've been able to find street parking..so I'm unsure how much parking cost in the garage..

A good friend of mine took us here for lunch, and it was a great experience. The environment was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The food tasted fresh, and the portion sizes were generous while still maintaining affordable prices. The star of the show for me was the Honey Walnut Shrimp, super crunchy with the perfect amount of sauce and flavor. I just wish they coated the walnuts with the sauce too. Overall, the food was amazing for the price, and the restaurant itself was clean and roomy. Staff is okay, attentive if you flag them down. It's a perfect sit-down Chinese restaurant if you're looking to bring friends and family.

We've had Home Eat before, but this was our first time visiting this particular location. It's in downtown San Jose, so finding parking can be a bit of a challenge. We were seated right away with a party of six. The menu is pretty extensive, but we already had a good idea of what we wanted. They also have a self-serve sauce bar, which is a nice touch. All of the dishes came out hot, flavorful, and made with fresh ingredients. Service was a little on the slower side; we had to ask for water and utensils a few times.. but overall, everyone enjoyed the meal and the family-style dining experience.

Honey Waln 40 Honey Walnut Shrimp 蜜汁核桃虾 - We had already taken some out.

We ordered a few dishes via DD from Home Eat. Was this one of the best taste wise that I have had? Not really, but it was solid and scratched that itch for Chinese food. I would definitely return. Their pricing is a lot better than most places and they give you a lot of food, which is really nice. We had the following: Beef Chow Fun 9/10 - The beef was tender and the flavor was really good. The noodles were thin and wide and had a good chew to them. My personal test on noodle dishes is how good they taste cold the next day and these really hit the spot in regard to leftovers. Honey Walnut Shrimp 4/10 - Somehow the crust around the shrimp tasted stale. It was weird. The shrimp were fresh and the black vein was cleaned out. The walnuts were raw. I prefer when they are slightly toasted. They also weren't sweetened like some places do, but I don't care either way on that. I liked that the sauce wasn't so heavy on the mayo and wasn't overly sweet. All in all it was not one of the better ones I have ever had and probably my least favorite of all the dishes. I wouldn't order this again. Pork & Shrimp Dumpling 7/10 - The dumpling had a nice chew to it but the fillings weren't overly flavorful. They barely give you any sauce with all those dumplings, which kind of sucked. The sauce is really heavy on the rice vinegar but I didn't mind that. They are a solid choice though. Mongolian Beef 6/10 - This smelled fantastic and had great flavor. The beef was a bit on the tough side but that wasn't really a big deal. My biggest problem with this dish is that it was LOADED with onions. There were just way too many onions. A massive amount of onions. If it wasn't for that I would have probably given this a 9 or 10 out of 10. Spicy Pepper Fried Chicken 10/10 - The flavor on these is so good (just writing about them makes me crave them). The spice level was nice. I would have preferred more spice but I also know I tend to like more spice than most people, so I totally understand the level they serve it at. There are peanuts in this one, which are tasty but just a warning to anyone with a peanut allergy. The crust was perfect on this. There were some overly hard pieces of crust in the batch but my dog liked crunching down on those pieces (no chicken, just chunks of crust). I would go back just for these. We also ordered two steamed rice sides and they added a third one to the order for free, which was really nice. And the sides were a good amount of rice. They also included some sort of soup. I don't know what it was. It looked kind of like an egg drop soup but the broth was a slightly cloudy, white-ish broth and there was corn in it. It was a little too sweet for me, but I love the fact that they included an extra item. I think that was really nice. Definitely a solid choice for Chinese food at a more reasonable price than most of the places around here.

Visiting San Jose and was craving some hot pot so came here! 90 min free parking in the lot next door. Very clean and modern looking chinese restaurant with tons of options. Order on the QR code on the table and a ROBOT server brings it to you. Ordered grandmas curry wok. Came really quick! Broth was good. Lots of variety in the pot itself, big portion too. Beef was really dry and overcooked before even turning on the fire though. There's also a sauce bar with a pretty good selection. Overall, good price, okay food

We came about 20 mins before lunch closing and the restaurant was still super busy, which is always a good sign. Luckily we only waited a few minutes before getting seated. The space is bright and cute, and I really liked the open kitchen and the ox logo on the wall. We got to try the Firecracker Fries, Spicy Shrimp & Pork Wontons, and the Traditional Beef Noodle Soup with thick noodles. The Firecracker Fries were definitely my favorite. Crispy outside, soft inside, flavorful with a little kick, and honestly addicting. The wontons were soft and packed with filling, although sweeter than spicy to me personally. The beef noodle soup was really comforting. Broth had a nice herbal flavor, noodles were chewy, and the beef was tender. The regular size was actually huge, enough for us to share and still have leftovers to bring home. Service was fast and friendly, we literally the last table there but they really took good care of us. Overall, really great experience and now I'm already craving those Firecracker Fries again.

We waited for about 20-30 minutes.    Before getting seated they ask if you want to do the normal hot pot style or AYCE. The AYCE runs for 90 minutes and is $24.99 during lunch and $30.95 during dinner time. They also charge for leftover food which is $6 per lb. We ended up doing the normal one pot hot pot for each person.    I always get my usual lamb hot pot which already comes with vermicelli noodles and choose rice as my free side dish. There are various levels of spiciness and I chose extra spicy which is a level down from there flaming spicy from what I can recall. Honestly it was not spicy enough but I did not want to get the spiciest level in fear that it would be too oily. Perhaps I will try that the next time to see if it is.    They have a bar further in the back of the restaurant where you can get creat your sauce and get some garnishes for your hot pot. I also noticed they have some other sides like noodles and such next to it. It seems if you are not participating in AYCE you can still get sauces and garnishes but I am not sure about the other sides.    The interior has changed from the last time I came here and it looks nice! Service was standard and everyone was nice. It does feel more chaotic now that they have AYCE but that  is understandable.

People following their cooking passions in cloud kitchens can't always control a lot of the experience beyond their kitchens so it's good to remember that sometimes behind each order is an individual hustling to try to keep a dream alive to own their own place someday. Be kind when you can. I'm saying all this because while the ambiance around the San Jose Downtown Food Hall and Bento Pro isn't great, the restaurant's output is relatively good. Instead of picking up food here in person, I'll probably adjust and order delivery in the future. I dropped my coworker off and ran an errand while she went in to order at the kiosks. There is metered parking in front and we saw reviews about free parking close by but didn't search for it. It wasn't the lunch rush so the area was pretty quiet and a lot of eateries were closed. She placed orders for our group at two different eateries in the food hall and the estimated wait times for both were fast and accurate. Back at the office, I got to sample my coworker's braised chicken quarter bento. The chicken was delicious and the bento was stuffed with sides and white rice. One of the sides, a stir fry vermicelli noodle, was really salty to me but my coworker who prefers very heavily seasoned food liked it. My minced pork dry noodles was similarly very salty. It seemed like someone had done a heavy pour of a concentrated sauce but it was a flavorful salty that I could see promise in so I solved the problem by boiling up a pack of plain ramen noodles, mixing it in, and saving half for dinner. The resulting dish was much more pleasant in sodium, still flavorful with all of the toppings and sauce mixed in, and I didn't have to cook for dinner. Noodles weren't soggy by the time we made it to the office and the whole dish was warm and fresh. Some people would probably have given that experience a low score but this is a relatively new eatery. It's quick, generous in portion, has the right flavors and just needs to work out some early unevenness. Everything worked out and I'm looking forward to trying it again via delivery.

Definitely above your typical market rates, but I promise these will be true to the OG flavors. It's mostly a food pick-up type of service where you walk up to a shared space and ring a doorbell to have an aunty bring out your stuff. Online ordering was how I did it, but you can also call/text an order over the phone. Unfortunately, impromptu cravings must likely be held at bay. Sometimes you can short-notice stuff if they have leftovers, but that's defintely a gamble. With either planning or luck, you'll then walk off with a hefty bag of deliciousness. You can have the option of getting them freshly cooked or frozen (for stocking up). The zongzi are well packaged and tightly wrapped with color-codings to the string to separate the fillings from each other. It's a bit cryptic, but you'll notice those correspond with the pictures on their ordering site. Descriptions of the fillings are true to their amount and pretty well packed with goodness (none of the mostly-rice-zongzi here). After cracking the first one open and taking my first bite, it was like that Ratatouille moment with Anton having flashbacks to his childhood (but like the Chinese version).
