Tried to make a phone order. the person/lady who answered the phone could not understand English and I could not understand her. They need to have someone who answers the phone speak clear english! I don't care if you have an accent but please speak clear enough where we can understand each other! I asked for the lady several times to give the phone to someone who understands English. she gave the phone to a customer (thats not the way to do business). This is bad business! Closest pizza spot to my work, went to try it for the first time. The pizza wasnt horrible but it wasnt something to rave about either. It is similar to chuck e cheese pizza (which honestly isnt that bad) The service is what really killed it. I asked for just a small side of jalapenos and he wanted to charge me $4!!!! Let's start with the Good: 1: This StrawHat takes EBT CalFresh, and the reason why I first heard about it, and tried it 4 years ago. 2: They have free Wifi Now the Bad: The previous owner seemed to be reducing the amount of toppings on Wednesday's when Pizza was 50 percent off, later he changed it to 30 percent off on Tuesday's when business is usually really slow. Now they have a new owner, and have a more confusing offer, but the EBT system is down due to the ownership change so business was dead, I only saw one other person buying some thing that afternoon after the lunch rush. Yesterday I went in to meet a friend, who told me at the last minute he could not make it, so I tried getting a Pastrami Hot Hat Sandwich, the new owner told me I would like it, and the picture on the menu made it look like it was a good filling meal for $8.99, but what arrived shocked me, it was a small thin Calzone style with very little meat and no sauce, when I brought it back to the counter, the owner said he uses three ounces of meat, but I don't really think he used even that much, I asked for my money back, and he was nice enough to return it, but I really hope he understands that he has to give people good portions to get them to come back, was it this stinginess that made StrawHat close so many stores in the 1990's? read more

I was here at 7:00 on a Wednesday night and craving pizza. A sign in front read "1/2 price all pizzas on Wednesday". I attempted to order a large half cheese half pepperoni, and when my order rang up it was full price. When I asked about the sign out front they told me "you can't have half-and-half under the deal." Weird. But okay, fine. On their menu they have a second offer Wednesday deal that says one large one topping pizza and 3 twists for 18.99. I ask If I can have half cheese half pepperoni and the server tells me I can't because it's only one half of a topping. I told him fine make it half cheese and half bacon and pepperoni and he told me no you can't do that either. The workers seriously aren't wearing any gloves at all making the pizza!! I went to go get my drink at the fountain and the lady who took our order didn't wash her hands and went straight making the pizza with another worker with no gloves. I didn't pay for the pizza so I couldn't have a word and was afraid they would get mad and have an attitude or actually do something to the order. I was also turned away when I tried to use my Groupon just this past Wednesday. I had actually bought two and used my first voucher with no issues a few months ago. I come back and am told their manager made the decision to just stop accepting all voucher deals due to people "scamming and misuse of them". Sounded like a load of crap to me so I took my lunch money elsewhere! This is extremely poor business practice and is hurting them more than anything. Im definitely NEVER coming back to this place. Luckily, Groupon has great customer service and refunded me with no problems and were even astonished to hear about the refusals. I purchased a Medium Buffalo Chicken Pizza tonight online and picked it up 20 minutes after my order was confirmed. The pizza wasn't hot but was just warm but the overall flavor was great. The reason this business gets a 2/5 star review is the customer service. On Wednesday's pizzas are 1/2 off and there is a sign to display this on the register. I asked the clerk to take advantage of this offer which was valid for take-out and he simply refused saying I had my 5% discount from an online order. I hadn't paid for the pizza yet so there was still an opportunity to apply the discount but both employees refused. The difference in cost would have been roughly $10.00 and I'm sure a deal like this would have brought me back on another Wednesday. I prefer this because you can try more varieties without getting too full. The toppings I remember are cheese, sausage, hawaiian, jalapeno, and combination. We came on a Thursday evening. It was not packed at all and the pizza was made promptly. It was delicious and a large was perfect for 4 people. The bathrooms were a little dirty and the restaurant seating is kind of run down. The person behind the counter was friendly. They have TVs and sports were on so it's not a "nice" place but it's good fast food probably best for a loud evening with family or friends type of place. I remember going to Straw Hat in Huntington Beach when I was a child. The pizza is a vague memory but boy do I remember the video games. Fast forward to adult hood and Straw Hat has become a great place to go for lunch. The buffet is well stocked with pizza but the big bonus is the salad bar. Since the reviews below mine had a chance to get their free personal size pizza, I thought the pizza was just about average. Straw Hat Pizza does offer many kinds of pizza including their creations along with different kinds of crust to choose from. We ordered a medium size (serves 2-3) of The Works (like a supreme pizza) and 3 garlic parmesan 'groovy' twists. The wait was about 20 minutes, with the cost totaling about $25 which wasn't as bad. The pizza was good, but it was just like any other pizza in my opinion. It's nothing distinguishing from their pizza, but their garlic parmesan twists were really good dipped with ranch! The place was clean and the service was friendly, but it seems that Straw Hat could have done some improvements. There's a small arcade about 5 games and 2 of the kiddy rides were labeled "OUT OF ORDER". There's only 2 games that you can win tickets and the prizes were useless since the minimum was about 35 tickets. Another improvement that Straw Hat could have done was its soda fountain since there were about 8 drinks and nearly half of them were "OUT OF ORDER" or "sold out". It was just average and since The Plant has many other eateries around, Straw Hat wouldn't be my top picks, but I wouldn't mind dining here again. read more

Tasted like something you serve to children. The dining area wasn't filthy, but felt a bit musty. I will say that the seasoned potato wedges had a nice flavor and were served hot and fresh.
