I recently moved to Arizona and wanted to do a little something different with my hair, something I usually don't do. I found Georgie and Stray Salon on Instagram through the #ScottsdaleHairstylist hashtag! (Yay social media!) I wanted to get a good idea of where to start. I originally wanted to dye my hair an ombré-kinda styled purple. Not vibrant, but very settle and almost natural -- as natural as purple could be anyway LOL. I reached out to Georgie and texted her from the phone number given on her social media and we briefly chatted. I told her what I wanted and she gave me an estimate on the price. Fast forward to my appointment with her yesterday, and I'm very pleased! If you look at the photos, my hair is nowhere near purple. It ended up turning out more of a pink-toned purple instead, but I'm not docking her any stars over something she only has so much control over. My hair is naturally a dark and rich brown. When I first walked into the salon, which was extremely easy to find btw (always a plus!), Georgie greeted me very kindly and she radiated this friendly positivity. She offered me some water right when I walked in, which was awesome since I had previously eaten a quick snack before going into my appointment since I knew I'd be in for awhile. She also offered some snacks since we got into lunchtime and it may have been obvious I was hungry. Someone warmed up some delicious smelling taquitos and I made a comment on how great it smelled. She offered some snacks from their little table area where there was also some coffee available. The snacks were in a jar that contained pretzels and similar easy snacks. The salon itself was also very tidy and everyone seemed very friendly. The salon is already decorated with holiday decorations that are scattered all over the place. It's actually really cute and they have a small area in the corner with white bricks. They take all their before and after photos there! They even have a bright light too to help with the lighting. I ended up being at the salon from 10am to about 3pm if I remember correctly. (I know it went way past the original time she mentioned, which was supposed to be 2pm because my hair wasn't necessarily cooperating and picking up the color.) HOWEVER, I want to appreciate that she didn't force any conversation with me. Personally, I really dread hairstylists that can't take the hint that you simply may not be in the mood for conversation. I normally don't enjoy small talk and would much rather sit in silence. I don't find it weird like others may, and I'm glad she didn't seem to mind the silence either during certain areas of the appointment. But when we would have conversations here and there, they were light hearted and she was overall extremely patient and very sweet! Now that that's said, I also want to point out that I enjoyed that Georgie would explain the process to me as she went ahead and bleached, toned, dyed and cut my hair. It's the little, simple things but it's always nice just knowing what's going on along the way. This was something she did that I genuinely appreciated. When it came down to it, Georgie admitted she knew it wasn't the right color I initially wanted, but the bleach had already been left in my hair for an hour. She didn't want to leave it in any longer because then it would wind up frying my hair. I truly appreciated her honesty and although the results were not what I initially wanted, I actually ended up loving the color anyway! read more

I had my hair done by Emilio and it was my first time at the salon. I was very nervous because I wanted to go blonde and in the past, I've had my hair dyed and turn orange or yellow. I expressed my worries and anxiety and Emilio was very tentative. I went in with brown hair and came out with blonde balayage. It was exactly what I wanted and totally exceeded my expectations. This was my first time to the salon and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and the products she used on my hair. I don't like writing negative reviews for anyone but I felt so upset with my hair cut by Emilio that I wanted to maybe save someone else like me from the same experience I had. From the beginning, I had told Emilio that I had experienced a lot of hair fall recently due to medication I had been taking previous to my current pregnancy (and malnutrition due to morning sickness) and that I just needed to correct the cut that I had done on myself, I wanted to keep the length. I told him I didn't want anything with too many layers because my hair was already so fine, short choppy layers would just accentuate my hair problem. The cut seemed to be going well while he was correcting the haircut (which he said wasn't too bad). He turned me around on the chair so I wasn't facing the mirror and couldn't see what he was doing on my hair. I trusted his expertise. He started blow drying and styling my hair. I ended up with really short hair. A lot of short layers all over the back. He also cut the front of my hair extremely short in comparison to the back hair (I can't tie a bun without the hair falling back to the front). He started thinning out the hair ( I don't know if that's the correct term but that thing they do with the scissors cutting it diagonally down). Again, I didn't say anything because I trusted he knew what he was doing. When I got home and washed out all the styling and oil/serum he put on my hair ( Oil? Really? On already thin hair?) I could see the mess he had left my hair in. Not only is it significantly shorter from the front but looks even worse than it did before I cut it. Uneven layers everywhere. In conclusion to this, I think Emilio should stick to hair color since that seems to be his expertise. I just wish he had referred me to someone else who knows how to cut thin hair. It seem like everything I told him went in one ear and out the other as he did everything contrary to what I asked for. read more

I went to see Carissa/ @Hairmotty and had an absolute HORRID experience. I've gotten my hair done a ton of times with other great stylist at other salons but this time I decided to go to her since her work looked decent on Instagram. Her work that she posts on IG is almost all of white girls and she is a specialist on doing white girls hair but based on my experience it was very obvious she did not know how to work with clients who are non-white. I paid a lot of money and ended up with a color that was not close to what I desired but the worst part is that she ruined my hair. It all broke off from the front and looks so damaged. I've NEVER had a stylist ruin my hair like that. I have no choice than to go out in public with my hair all broken off, fried and damaged and it's made me feel so insecure. If you are a person of color do not go see her and beware that she does not know how to do hair if it's a non-white hair type. To make things better... she has a bad attitude and not friendly at all. She has a stuck up attitude. Spend your money elsewhere! read more

I went to a salon wanting to go blonde and they RUINED my hair. It was very orange and the highlights looked like tiger stripes and started below my exposed natural root. I called Stray and asked if anybody could fix it. Emilio literally squeezed me in last minute as I am going on vacation and he saved my life. He did a root shadow and toned all of the orange/reds out of my hair. My hair looks absolutely amazing now and he got it to look and feel sooo much more healthy than when I first arrived.
