The van had already picked up a couple then stopped for us and then picked up a family. Our driver Maria was great had a lot of history to share with us on the road. We had the swamp tour first would recommend a light jacket if it's not a super warm day. Our guide on the boat Nick was also great, gave a lot of good in-site , we took a pontoon boat instead of the airboat and they are both good options there was just a small area we couldn't get into bc of the boats size. Lunch is at the dock where you got the boat you are given 30 minutes to eat which is not a lot of time versus the portion size. If you do want to order something to go order it either before you go in the swamp tour if you get there early or right as you walk in for lunch, someone on our group wanted to take food to go and was not able to because there was not enough time. We went to the Whitney plantation that was a self guided tour we had about 2 hours to do this which is doable but don't take too long in any particular area. Whitney soli focuses on slavery. Our guide let us know the Laura focuses on both the family and slavery so that could have been a good option too. The Whitney was very informative and definitely worth it. The car ride really is the longest part of the tour but like I mentioned the driver will point out different interesting things along the way. Most of our group fell asleep on the way back and we all were looking at where to eat right after as you eat around 11:30 and we got back around 4:16.

Here is how our tour (Laura Plantation and Oak Alley Plantation Tour 8:00 am - 2:00 pm, $95.4/person) breaks down: 7:35 AM - pick up from Sheraton on Canal Street (actual pick up was at 7:30 AM, as the driver was a few minutes early, but so were we) 8 AM - finish picking up all passengers in the city 8:45 AM - brief plantation stops (photo ops) on the way there to Oak Alley Plantation 9:20 AM - arrive at the main entrance, tickets distribution, and bathroom break outside of the Oak Alley gate (small stalls with running water/soap, but it is clean) 9:30 AM - wait in line for the tour 9:40 AM - tour of the Oak plantation (30 mins official tour by the plantation) 10:55 AM - meet up at the other parking lot for pick up 11:10 AM - arrive at Laura Plantation and bathroom break first (again small stalls with running water/soap but clean) 11:20 AM - official tour for Laura begins 12:30 PM - tour concludes, and we go straight to the bus 12:40 PM - pick up passengers from Evergreen Plantation and drive back to the city 1:30 pm PM - get dropped off/picked up (by a different driver) at a gas station and the rest of the bus proceeds to the lunch/swamp tour 2:10 PM PM - get dropped off at our hotel When I researched plantation tours, I wanted to visit at least two but didn't want to take up my whole day for it. I didn't know what to expect so I kept an open mind about this tour…read more We were instructed to meet our guide at Voodoo Tavern and Poboys about 30 minutes before to give us plenty of time for some drinks (to have at the bar and to bring for the tour.) About 15 minutes before departure, our guide Henry walked in and intro'd himself as the man to show us around. He did a quick round and once his check list of guests completed, he brought the bus around and boarded all of us. He mentioned we were making two cemetery stops and a break in between. He's a really entertaining guy and knowledgeable guide. He made sure to point out places of interest during the drive. He gave us plenty of historical facts and made at some recommended eateries as well as famous homes while we drove by them. We learned a lot because of this tour: why some crypts have vents and others don't, the story behind one year and one day before reusing them, the phrase "saved by the bell" (Henry mentioned this phrase supposedly originated from New Orleans), money flexing even in the afterlife, how and why and how there are so many bodies buried in one crypt (hence the many names on the tombstones - one had 500+ dating back from the 1800's), etc. It really was educational and fun at the same time. It's a two hour tour and that's what we got. We were also lucky to be with a fun and interactive group. TIP: The earliest tour during the week starts at 8pm. They start at 5pm on Fridays. ANOTHER TIP: Henry highly HIGHLY recommended taking as many pictures and selfies as you can. Some might reveal surprise photo bombers! (Sadly, we weren't that lucky!) He will also suggest downloading an app (I believe it's called Ghost Hunting Tools - it's blue with a black handprint on it) that supposedly picks up spirits. (I did it just for fun! And it set off another tourist's phone, so that was interesting!) He also recommends walking out of the gate backwards to ward of possible spirits from following you home or wherever you may end up in. (Whether you believe this or not is up to you.) We had a great time. I would absolutely recommend this tour for NOLA first timers.

She was great with the kids and kept them engaged. She told us all kinds of things about the history of New Orleans especially Jackson Square. I thoroughly enjoyed the information! The tour was a little short of two hours and the time flies by. Nothing was scary that was shared other than light ghost debauchery. Nothing gory was shared and vocabulary was carefully chosen. Parents learned of stories that they could google later for the information. I highly recommend this tour if you're on the fence! I'm in town for a forensics conference and when I registered, I paid for two spots on the Unique NOLA True Crime Tour that was scheduled for Sunday. My fiancé and I ended up booking a later flight and would not be able to make the Sunday tour, so I called ahead to see if we could be rescheduled. Chris answered the phone and fixed us up without issue; we'd be on the 7pm tour the following day. Carlo texted the group ahead of time as a reminder with the address we would meet him at. At first we were concerned that maybe the tour would cover all the same spots as the usual ghost and vampire tours--my fiancé called that hypothetical "same tour, different flavor"--but I am happy to report that there was only one stop that we had seen before, and Carlo actually mentioned that it's the most famous stop and that it's featured in the other tours. He offered to take us to a different stop instead, but one of our group members was looking forward to seeing the famous one so we did that (you know the one, from AHS). But even there, Carlo stuck to the facts of previous owners of the house, and he told us specifically when an element here or there was a local tale of haunting. All throughout the tour, Carlo was informative, comedic, and didn't claim to know more than he does. We love a factual, history-based tour! At the end, Carlo gave us Mardi Gras tips and directions back to the places we were trying to get to. He grew up in New Orleans, and he's dabbled in a wide range of jobs, so he really knows his stuff. We appreciated every bit of the tour, and would definitely book with them for another tour in the future.

Catering to the tourism in the area, this tour company has options to pick up at your hotel or you can meet at their small business front at the start of the tour time. Arrive 10-15 minutes early to check in and get a good spot on the shuttle bus. They are extremely low tech here so I did not get a confirmation email or confirmation number from them, unlike all the other reservations I made. We really liked that this is one of the smaller more intimate tour buses. They have AC! Perfect! New Orleans is hot and humid and I'm delicate. Howie was our driver and extremely energetic and passionate tour guide. Remember to bring cash for tip! The tour is 2.5 hours and it covers the history of New Orleans, the culture, the neighborhoods, a visit at Cafe Du Monde, a visit at a cemetery, and of course what happened during Hurricane Katrina where Howie was a first responder and how the city rebuilt. During my visit I joined many tours, but Howie gave the best overview with corny punny jokes throughout the trip and made everything extremely enjoyable for our group. Highly recommend this bus tour if you are getting acquainted with the city!
