We had to switch from this animal hospital due to a pattern of not sending reminder notices for our dog's vaccinations and other services. While we reported the problem numerous times, it didn't get fixed and we need very detailed care and regular reminders to be sure we bring our dogs in for their appointments on a timely basis. This was first visit for Miss Molly Asta and me. Wonderful experience from the first moment I called for an appointment to the conclusion of our first visit. Front-end staff are extremely welcoming and made us feel very comfortable; "Yes, this is a great place for Miss Molly." Dr. Bethany St John, DVM and the Vet Tech gave Molly a superb checkup and definitely wanted to know all about her past and current health. They were absolutely wonderful in every way; couldn't be any happier. Miss Molly is hyper, but that didn't give them a second of hesitation. They are not the Vets that try to sell you myriad of tests and stuff. Their self confidence is manifested by their professionalism and handling of my dog and me. They are Greaaaat! This is a horrible institution. All of my interactions with the staff, including the vets and managers, were incredibly disappointing. At the time of my appointment, everything felt very thrown together and disorganized. I forgave this as they seemed like a very small, unstructured vet office with minimal formality due to a lack of strong management and/or policies. I walked into one of their rooms and I could tell the vet tech had no idea what she was doing. She seemed very unsure of herself and I didn't feel comfortable having someone who seemed incompetent taking care of my pet's records. When the vet came in, she was very pushy about vaccines and medications that were not mandatory. It was overall very unprofessional and I didn't feel like my puppy was getting the best care. read more

I've been taking my French bulldog Reeses here for years. They have always been attentive, loving, communicative, and extremely knowledgeable. Frenchies are prone to a myriad of interesting health issues, and she's always received prompt care for all of her needs. When she got older and something would go wrong, they would allow me to bring her in same day, drop her off and they would give her a proper exam while I was at work, then immediately call me with an assessment and treatment plans. Vet care is not cheap, but I find their prices fair and reasonable. They won't do any tests or treatment (I.e. surprise charge you) for anything that hasnt been previously been discussed and agreed to. When my family had to make the difficult decision to give my dog her wings, they were very kind and supportive. They gave us space and privacy to say our good byes and made the process very peaceful. My pet has been physically injured while receiving grooming services there and I took him to see their doctor right away. I demanded a complete refund and the practice owner denied that I took my pet to see their doctor after the incident and that I did not follow their "recommendations" after my dog came back home with both of his ears bleeding. They have the worst customer service and they had the indecency to return only 25% of the total amount. I don't mind paying their expensive grooming services but I am appalled that they would lie in such a way and mistreat animals. We have used Stream Valley Vet, Boarding, and Grooming for our puppy. All the Techs and doctors are wonderful. They take the time to listen to concerns and offer helpful suggestions. The boarding is wonderful. It is refreshing to know that on both occasions that we had to use the boarding he was being well taken care of and having fun playing with other puppies. During boarding he received a bath, nail trim, and brushing. Our dog looked so handsome when we picked him up. I would highly recommend this vet for anything you need. read more

Not really impressed. When we moved and was new to the area, we found Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital for our cat because it had very good reviews. It has been many years since we began taking our cat to SVVH, so I think there has been enough past visits to write this review. Our initial experience with the SVVH and the service was acceptable to meh, but we decided to stay and give SVVH a chance. The bills from SVVH for visits are on the definitely pricey side! Over the years on various appointment visits to SVVH we noticed that the vet on-duty and technician tending to us wasn't always consistent. Similar to a few other reviews I've read, we would also prefer consistency of the staff who our cat sees on visits. During one annual checkup for our cat in which I recall a vet (who we never saw at SVVH in past years...must have been a new vet or a vet just filling-in) seemed to be frightened to death of handling our cat. He stood at a notable distance and asked his technician to handle our cat during the checkup. We found the particular instance to be comical, but it also didn't give us a warm feeling. Another instance was when we were going away and utilized SVVH's boarding services for our cat. When we returned and picked our cat at SVVH after one and a half weeks, she had lost 2 pounds and looked thin and a bit frail. It really made me question the level care that our cat received at SVVH while we were away. The number of exam rooms seem to be limited. If I'm not mistaken, there are 3 exam rooms. One of the exam rooms looks like a small storage room with stacked file boxes and no exam table that doubles as an exam room. The second exam room (the one we usually get taken to and the room SVVH usually uses for cat appointments) is also very small. It's standing room only (maybe 1 person can sit). What was "the last straw" that made us change vet was an exorbitant bill we received for an annual checkup (when compared to past annual checkups for the same service). When we inquired about the sudden jump in cost, we were given an explanation that quite frankly still didn't justify the increase. For that same visit, we were charged around $45 or so for a plastic tube to collect a sample of our cat's stool and the stool analysis. We collected the sample and took it to SVVH. We never heard back from SVVH about the analysis. Even if nothing was wrong from the stool analysis, I would have thought that they would have at least contacted us back via email or a call to let us know that they tested and everything is OK for $45. It makes me wonder if the technician just threw away the sample without testing it and just took our money. We decided not to argue the bill with SVVH and to just change to another vet hospital. I'm unsure why they are rated 4.5 stars on Google and 4 stars on Yelp. I give SVVH 2 stars at best. Bottom line is that we gave SVVH too many chances. The change away from SVVH is long overdue. read more

Compassionate ... Personal ... Empathetic! These are the words that come to mind when I think of the staff and practice of Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital. I have been a client for 10+ years with various animals. We leave our dogs with boarding every year for summer vacation - because it is the only place I trust. I have two dogs - one of my dogs is special needs. Stream Valley was able to diagnose one of my dogs with a liver disease that is not very common. Now that my special-needs dog is later in life, there are more complicated problems that have arisen due to a slow decline of her liver. Dr. Corey has saved my dog from death (literally). She cares for my dogs as if they were her own. We are definitely treated as family. I cannot say enough positive comments regarding this practice. If you are looking for a vet, this is the place to be. This practice is more about personal care than running a business. read more

We met Dr. Corey when we lived in Ashburn and we were bringing our dog and bunny to her. We have since moved to Frederick, Maryland and we still see Dr. Corey. Recently, our rabbit (who was 16 years old) had a seizure on a Sunday night. Dr. Corey had given me her cell phone number and connected with me (I was out of town) and my husband (who was home with our rabbit) to tell us what to do. Their examinations are thorough; their vet techs are knowledgable; emergencies taken care of promptly; front desk staff very pleasant; but most of all, my animals don't fear coming to Dr. Mary's!!! I've read some comments about some fees being high --- we've been coming to Stream Valley since 2003 and have never been overcharged. If you're having xrays, blood work, etc., of course the bill is higher than usual. For the best care, do you ask your physician, "how much" before getting care for yourself? Our new rescue dog Emma, had torn her entire top of her nail and it was just hanging there with her quick exposed. She woudn't let us touch it, so we called Stream Valley and sent them a picture. It was 5pm on a Friday, but they said bring her in. Our dog dosen't love car rides plus she had been worried about recent thunderstorms, so I told Stream Valley she was extra nervous. After waiting a very short time(last minute appointment!), they took our dog in for treatment, I walked our dog to treatment room because she was nervous. I could hear them telling Emma she was doing a good job and she was a good girl. A few minutes later she was out and everything went great. They said Emma did great and she was very easy in letting them help her with her torn nail, plus they trimmed her other nails and she did great! I am glad we found Stream Valley years ago. Fantastic vet service! We are happy to call Stream Valley our pet's vets since 1998. Recently we had to euthanize one of our dogs due to stroke and Dr. Kirk and staff made the experience as caring and professional as I've ever experienced (unfortunately I have had to experience this since I have outlived three other dogs in my 40+years). Our other dog, who happens to be 13, just had a major dental procedure which I swear has made her act like a puppy again. I wished this work for us humans! We've been going to Stream Valley for over 8 years. Today may have been our last visit. I feel they are very expensive and always looking to find a way to charge for unnecessary services. Our dog had a physical less that 3 months ago. Today we took her in for her Bordetella. We called ahead to make sure that we would not be charged for an exam since she just had a complete physical and we'd had issues in the past with excessive exam charges. By the way, our dog is very healthy. But, when there, they did a short exam, not by a doctor I should add, which was not requested and finally gave her the treatment that was the sole purpose for the visit. After saying several times that if I had to pay for the unnecessary exam, it would be my last visit, I was referred to the office manager. I then had to listen to the office manager cite their policy of the exam and I again reiterated that it would be my last visit, especially after we had called and discussed it ahead of the visit. The office manager dropped the charge as a 'courtesy' after once again stating my dissatisfaction. I'm just not willing to pay for services that are totally unnecessary and are simply put in place to charge fees to their customers. Why can't they provide the services requested. In looking at other reviews I see that this is a consistent problem at the practice. My recommendation: shop around and compare prices. Just because they are in Ashburn their costs are high. I've found much less expensive services, such as dental cleanings, elsewhere for less than a third of their charges. We all love our pets but we don't need to spend 3 times the cost for good vet services. Edited after comments from Dr Corey. I lowered the rating further. It seems that even their office staff is unaware of their policies since the office staff that made the appointment with us told us that an exam would not be necessary. The office is not even sure of the policies. Dr. Corey is right - this vet clinic is not for everybody. I'll find one that's a better value. read more

We have known the Stream Valley Vet staff and Dr. Corey for over 6 years now. Not only have they provided great care for our two dogs, but they look at the practical way of treating dogs (one of our dogs hates going to the vet, so he gets seen in the green grass training area instead of the exam room), and mix it with a great deal of compassion (3.5 hours at home with us as we said good bye to one of our dogs). I challenge any pet owner to find a more knowledgable, friendly, and accommodating staff. Constantly disappointed by the staff and their work. I brought my puppy to his first two appointments in a carrier to prevent him from being around over dogs before his vaccine, and the staff took him out of my hands and put him on the floor in the filthy exam room and he was throwing up a few days after but I can't be positive the reason why, although other than that he was in my clean home 24/7. Then they raise prices without telling you, and take days to get back to you when you ask to speak to a manager. Finally, for our last visit, they call the night before after I've already confirmed the appointment to reschedule me for an earlier time (not calling me on my cell like I've asked them multiple times to do) and instead of rescheduling when I call them back they cancel my appointment because the decided to give the only remaining opening to someone else. They did not apologize for their multiple mistakes or offer me a solution, just rudely said for me to pick a new day since they had filled my spots. I have not been satisfied with a single visit and would not recommend them to anyone. Absolutely ridiculous. Overpriced and only in it for themselves and to make a profit, they do not care about you or your pet AT ALL. read more

We have been taking our dog to Stream Valley for the past two years and would never consider going anywhere else. They genuinely care for the pets they treat, and each doctor and technician we have dealt with has been highly knowledgable and professional. The entire staff has promoted a very comfortable atmosphere there - they know the families as well as their pets. They are always willing to address questions and concerns, no matter how busy they are, and I have always left feeling that my dog has gotten the very best of care. 08/27/08 We have brought our dogs, Butch and Sara, to this facility on 3 separate occasions. At first, they seem great. The first time, Dr. Corey (the owner) made our Sara all better when she had an infection. She listened to what we had to say and took it to heart and the vet bill was reasonable. So, naturally, we felt comfortable in bringing Sara back when she started to limp. Sara is a Rottweiler, so they muzzled her on the following visit. (even though Butch is twice her size and twice the attitude and he has NEVER been muzzled by any vet) The muzzle was so tight, my dog could not even get her tongue out of her mouth. But that is not the part that upset me. Dr. Dougher had Sara so scared that she pottied on the floor 3 times and would not stop shaking. They refused to do an xray, even though we specifically asked several times. She said Sara was "too tense" and she could not do an exam to see what was wrong with her leg and that she would have to sedate her to do an xray on a follow up visit. Of course Sara was tense, she WAS scared. Instead they claimed that she thought Sara had lyme disease and/or heartworms and insisted on blood work. (for an extra $59) My dogs take Frontline and Interceptor monthly and had just got the Lyme vaccination back in July. Chances are that this was the problem was slim to none but the vet refused to consider any other diagnosis without the blood test. Obviously, the blood test came back negative. Dr. Dougher's suggestion was to keep Sara locked up in her crate for a week to rest and only to take her out on a leash to go to the bathroom. ???? Needless to say we were extremely upset about this visit. I called back the next day to talk to Dr. Corey (the owner) about the visit with Dr. Dougher. The woman answering the phone was awfully rude. I did not get much accomplished with that phone call except to just get even more upset. My husband called back later that day and left a message for Dr. Corey. She returned his call later that night and her comment was that my dog should never have been seen by Dr. Dougher (big dogs is not her specialty) and that they would give Sara some aspirin if we come back and pick it up. Dr. Corey also stated that Dr. Dougher "meant to say" that Sara should be limited to short leash walks and not to let her run around outside playing with Butch. As of now, I have already paid a $171 vet bill and we still have a dog that is limping with no diagnosis. 8/29/08 When picking up the "aspirin", Dr. Corey actually gave Sara an anti-inflammatory drug, Metacam. It added an additional $56 to the vet bill but maybe this will help her. I still have no diagnosis. 10/15/08 Even after all THAT, the vet's office refused to issue heartworm prevention, even though we paid for heartworm test. Insisted they needed to do another exam, however, after the way they treated Sara, there was no way I would bring her back. 2/2/09 We switched vets, obviously. They now go to Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital, off of Claiborne Parkway. This new vet is absolutely amazing and has been for some time now, even with our BIG DOGS. read more

I took my Pekingese there for several vet visits and 2 or 3 kennel boards. I told them before I ever brought her there and each time I came that she can be aggressive and bite. They said it would be fine and they would "mark" her chart. The last time I went, when I picked her up, I was told by the "head Dr." that I could not bring her back. She bit a vet tech who reached down to her face.This is an 11 pound pekingese - in which they were warned about! If they, professional pet "people" can't handle her, who can?? They are also very expensive. So, if you have a perfect pet and a lot of money, go for it. I have since found another local vet in which she does very well at - have been many times with no problems. read more

Over the last year I have taken my elderly rabbit to Stream Valley on the recommendation of a friend. I have been a rabbit owner for over 24 years, and NEVER have I met a vet so caring, thorough, and skilled as Dr. Ashley Signorino. She would personally call to follow up on appointments. Yesterday we had to put my bunny to sleep, and she made time after surgery to fit us in. My dad came with me and I told him he was going to love her, and when we left, we both couldn't stop saying what a gift she has. She hugged us, sympathized with us, and presented all the options in a loving but clear manner. I knew my rabbit was in the hands of someone that truly cared about him. My review doesn't even do Dr. Signorino justice. She is in the right profession- she is a gift to animals and their owners. I can't recommend her highly enough. read more
