This place is trash. I see Mandy the psychiatrist or whatever she is for outpatient care and I'm done. Going elsewhere. The last time I saw her she didn't even have me come in her office to begin the appointment. She walks out to the front desk where I was and asked me so loudly what my name is like she always does when I see her. There were people in the waiting room while this happened. Then she asks me if I have my medicine with me, an injection I get once a month. She got so upset with me visibly when I said I already did it myself (again) because she hurt me badly when she did it I have been having my boyfriend do it. They don't allow this which I understand I guess but she did not need to do all this in front of other clients in the lobby. It was incredibly embarrassing. She is awful at giving shots I'll say it again. Awful. Was a traumatic moment and after dealing with her this last appointment talking to me about my medicine in front of people in the lobby, I'm done. She never knows who I am like I said and thinks I want her to give me a shot? No thanks. Alexian said it's okay to administer the medicine yourself and my boyfriend watched a video of how to do it, and it doesn't hurt at all when he does. Quality of care really gets a 0 star grade at streamwood outpatient in my opinion. read more

I was recently discharged and am very disappointed with my experience. I would have given 1 star but my therapist and Doctor were great. The Doctor diagnosed me correctly and the new medication regime was effective. Those are the only positive s things I can say about the stay. Staff was unempathetic and very rigid. Miss Danielle was a nightmare to have on the unit. She wasn't kind or compassionate. My best days were the ones that she wasn't working. They don't allow you to walk in the hall or pace, movement is one of my coping mechanisms. I asked to pace to help me cope and they would not allow me to. They wanted us to sit in a chair in the day room from 8am-8pm. If we were lucky they would allow us to go down to lunch or dinner and spend maybe 15 minutes outside. They also brought us to a caged area on the 3rd floor to get outside time, it was straight out of prison. We were also told to stay in our rooms until 9 am on the weekends. For someone who is an early riser this was extremely distressing. Also we were not allowed to take a nap or rest during the day. For someone starting new medication and get sedating medications this seemed very cruel. As far as our programming, there was no set schedule. Most of the time we had no group sessions during the day and just ended watching movies. The groups were very inconsistent and some days we only had one group session. I don't consider it a group when all we do is check in, give a rating from 1-10 and answer a simple question. I watched a lot of movies while I was there but can't count that as treatment. It wouldn't be so terrible to be stuck in the day room if we were actively engaged with treatment. Two more complaints were how terribly cold it was and the food. I brought some of my own clothes but didn't prepare for the cold. They were sometimes able to provide a sweatshirt but normally did not have any clean clothes. I was stuck in the same clothes for day. I begged for a second sweatshirt because I couldn't stay warm and sometimes I was able to get one. Even with two sweatshirts I was still cold. We weren't allowed to pace so I couldn't move around to stay warm. When I was lucky to have another sweatshirt staff kept trying to take it from me, I stood my ground on this. The majority of the showers only had cold water too. As far as the food, yes hospital food is generally terrible but we weren't given enough food. I lost 7lbs over 8 days there and I didn't have weight to lose. I ate all rhe meals I was given and still lost the weight. Family were trying to contact me at the hospital and I was not allowed to speak to them. They wouldn't give my family the phone hours. No mention of any of the calls. They made us take our night meds early. Mine were scheduled at 9 and they started giving them at 7. They didn't give me the option to take them later. Overall I'm appreciative that I finally received the right diagnosis and medications but the stay was traumatic. Felt more like a prison than a hospital read more

Not impressed at all with this facility. My husband was transferred here and we had no say. I read other reviews online and sadly it's exactly like others are saying. We have had SOME nice staff but theres one nurse there who's terrible! My husband said they are treated like dogs. Also, NO soap given in bathroom to wash hands with after using bathroom. Ok for the shower but not after using restroom? Very confusing and unsanitary. Also, was told my husband would speak with Dr and therapist every day. He's only seen therapist once and Dr twice, it's been 4 days. Husband went in voluntarily and is treated like a prisoner. SO sad to hear him say they are allowed to go outside but the "rooftop" is caged in...Just really really sad. My husband got yelled at for waving thru a window at me when I dropped of pictures my kids colored for him...Way to make these patients feel even lower than they do by being treated this way. :( If you have the choice, don't choose this facility. I'm not sure how playing cards, coloring pictures, and listening to music will help these people...if we needed a babysitter I would have kept him home. He needed professional help and just isn't getting it. read more

Sadly, this place is like a prison for any and all problems which a cell cannot fix or at least what the system has caused it to become. There are several behavioral places that truly try to help those who struggle in life with poor impulses or mental issues and for that WE Thank You. But when a behavioral facility brings more troubles on then diagnosed then there is a problem with the facility. Placing drug dealers with children in the same room is just asking for these precious kids to learn every parents worst nightmare. Angry, disgusted, disappointed and down right frustrated with the whole system. Please consider any other location if at all possible before sending your loved ones to this place. read more

During the most difficult time my son's life, he went to Streamwood. We were overwhelmed and scared. Evan in the intake was very kind and calming. Connie the receptionist was so helpful and comforting. Laura the case manager was professional and impressive with her skills. This facility is nothing like their website describes. I tried to call a dear friend staying within, but after several attempts per day, during phone hours stated on the facility website, I was not able to initiate a phone call. I left a message once, and used their phone system to mark it "priority" but after my friend was released, she said the staff made no attempts to alert her of my message, or my multiple calls. She said the place felt like a prison. She didn't trust most the staff nor the patients. She was given no activities, no therapy, and only brief council during her stay. She said a male patient roamed the halls near their beds one night, and threatened to force himself on the female patients, while staff mocked him instead of intervening. She did not feel safe here, and that deeply disturbed what should have been her focus on recovery. My best friend suffered a brief lapse of control in her life, but this Center was an incredibly poor substitute for the support she needed. If she had spent a longer period of time staying within their care, I can't imagine what would have happened. read more

This place RUINED my life! I was sent here as a FOUR YEAR OLD after my parents violently abused me. I was left orphaned after this incident I was diagnosed with "PTSD" as a four year old and spent 8 years in the foster care system! I stayed out of trouble as a teen, has no mental or behavioral problems, got accepted to a good private college and have worked multiple jobs and worked EXTREMELY hard to make my life good despite all the awful tragic things. I recently discovered my love for my country and wanted to sign up with the Army and Navy but they BOTH denied me for enlistment and commission because I was sent here as a FOUR YEAR OLD!! Despite working multiple jobs, putting MYSELF through college as a 18-22yr old, multiple character references, and NO law or mental health problems- the military STILL denied me because i was sent here. This place is like a prison. I am unable to speak with my son and even when I call and leave messages they don't give them to him. He's lucky if he gets to use the phone once a day. After 4 minutes he was rushed to get off by staff saying "times up". It does not help anyone's mental health to be taken completely away from their families. They won't tell him when he can leave. Treatment is terrible towards patients as well. Zero community from his therapist or anyone else even though a release has been signed. If you have a lived one who needs help DO NOT send them here. My child was struggling with depression and was hospitalized at this death trap. He was on a floor with other children with active COVID and staff knew. They purposely withheld this information from me, his mother, knowing I would pull him out. My 90 year old mother and my daughter with cancer are very high risk. The staff at Streamwood put their own need for profit over the health of my child and my family. There will be hell to pay if anyone in my family gets sick. Do not, I repeat do not put anyone you care about in this place. My granddaughter just left there with lice and warts on her feet. She was there for three days before even seeing a therapist and trying to get ahold of her therapist was not an easy task. Her mother's nightly calls at times were put on hold up to fifteen minutes or cut off. At one call while she was talking to her daughter she could hear a staff member screaming at a patient to get in their room, my granddaughter also told her mother if she asked a staff person a question they would get in her face and yell at her for asking the question. The patients were suppose to have time outside, but were never allowed to go out because they were told they are short staffed. It appears they are not only short staffed, but the staff is very unprofessional and disorganized. My granddaughter was also prescribed medication and it took two days before she received it. As for trying to get my granddaughter discharged and transferred to another facility, that was a nightmare I won't even go into. Conclusion a poorly run facility with poorly trained staff, and doctors that have little concern for their patients or overseeing the proper care for their patients. read more

I picked up my child yesterday from a 7 day hospital stay. I spent 7 days in close contact with the adolescent unit. I was able to reach the nurse, doctor as well as therapist. My son was so much happier with the experience at this location. The staff treated him with respect and helped him adjust medications. My son was able to see us on a day when we couldn't make visit day. I personally saw the food and it was a great appearance and my son was enjoying the food. He praised the food from day one. There was staff that were amazing Valerie, Connie in reception(She has always been great), Pops (also always great with my oldest and now my youngest, and Katie who was always patient and answered all my questions. Thankyou to everyone who made this transition a smooth one. My son and I will never forget. So, if you read reviews like I had and freaked out, don't. They have a security camera system in whole hospital, there is an I'd passcode you must know to call and staff really does answer questions. It's like my mom would say," If you give respect, you will get great respect." Oh and PS the facility is very clean and they have great security. Also, no electronics or cell phones. And they do great with Autism. read more

My child was admitted in the BIU. The behavior therapist, Rosie, was supposed to give me a training, which was a lot if questions, personals by the way, that didn't have to do anything with my child. All she talked was negative and I never heard "Let's work with some goals!" Something so simple! She mentioned that my child had an aggressive behavior towards her, when the same day that the incident happened the nurse had called me and said it was towards another staff. I knew that she was lying! Two of the staff gave me the same version except Rosie. I think she needs to learn to communicate with parents and also learn that a technic cannot be used with all children. We are all unique, but I think she's the exception. I was on ATU and I asked for my ensure and the staff said "you don't need it" and gave mine to another patient. Customer service is complete trash. I repeatedly tried contacting them because I need documentation from my stay at Streamwood for job corps. When I was there a lot of the staff were rude. One of the staff hit me with a magazine once despite the fact that I'd told people that was my only boundary was not to be touched in that manner. read more

I was a patient here for about a week, and because my age was on the fence between adolescents and children, they put me in the child group. They get mad at you for not learning anything from their lessons. And whenever a little kid acted up, they gave them a shot. And parents aren't allowed to take their children back until the hospital is ready to release them. There are only a few good staff members in the children group as well. The nurses, office ladies, and Kayla. Other than that all of them were mean, unsympathetic, uncaring, and overall trash. They discouraged you to make friends there as well. And they took anything and everything that visitors give you until you are discharged. The school teacher doesn't let you take time and gets mad if you go to slow. Overall I would say that if you care about your children, or yourself. Do not let them go here. read more

I was admitted to the Streamwood Behavioral Center Inpatient Unit on March 15, 2016 for a suicide attempt, suicidal ideations, severe anxiety, and clinical depression. I met some absolutely amazing people there that really helped me realize how im not the only person going through this. But thats the only good part of Streamwood based on my experience: - The staff were terribly rude, and it was clear that they didn't care about the patients. They complained about their salary during groups sometimes, would talk really loudly at 3am when everyone was sleeping, and were terribly inconsiderate. - The showers were all scorching hot and you couldnt control the temperature. You have to click the shower and sink button every ten seconds bc thats how long the water flows out for. - They didnt let us talk to other patients alone/when we were having a panic attack/when we just needed someone to talk to. The staff would recite speeches on how we should be talking to them instead of patients. Personally, I have really bad trust issues and it's way easier for me to talk to other people that have gone through/are going through the same things as me than a staff member who doesn't actually care about me. - I would have panic attacks at night and I had to walk but they wouldnt let me because people were in their beds, (even though you cant even hear people walking through the hallway. and i cant do that, but staff could talk really loudly and wake everyone up bc thats totally fine.) so they just ended up shoving more melatonin in my system so i would fall asleep. - I have a bad history with drugs/pills, (one of the times i attempted was overdosing) so I refused any medication because I knew that when I would leave, I would try overdosing again. The doctor then explained to me that I am refusing my treatment by refusing medication because according to them, the medication is the main form of treatment. I understand that for many people, medications do help but I would not be able to take meds without abusing them. Fortunately, I had gotten the 6 day release form signed, meaning that they had to release me after 6 days of being there. I was discharged on March 21, 2016 and was admitted to a different hospital after that. read more

I never wanted to have to bring my child to a hospital like this, but we had to get him help and it just wasn't safe to have him at home. He was very angry all the time and when he wasn't trying to hurt others, he was hurting himself. We had run out of options for him and at that point, our son's psychiatrist recommended taking him to be evaluated at Streamwood Hospital. I was able to take my son to their assessment and referral department for evaluation without making an appointment. I can't tell you how thankful I was for that, since I can't always predict ahead of time what my son's behavior will be like in advance. Once getting there, we met with a nice woman in the assessment department who had us fill out some short medical paperwork. Once we had finished, she brought my son and I to a private room where we could talk about some of his behaviors at home and school. I was able to share with her what we've been experiencing as a family and what my son had been experiencing. The woman seemed very understanding and helpful. After a short wait, she informed us that the doctor had agreed that my son would benefit from an inpatient stay and that I could walk with them to the unit that he would be staying on to learn more about their therapy and help ease the transition to his stay. Since my son has special needs, he would be admitted to the unit for boys but would do his therapy on a unit for children and adolescents with special needs. My son has Asperger's Syndrome, so he is very intelligent but struggles with interacting with other people. I was worried that the boy's unit would be filled with much more dangerous children than my son and that exposing him to that environment might cause more harm than good, but I was reassured by the staff and their therapy director that my son was in good hands and that someone would be contacting me the following day. The next afternoon, I heard from my son's assigned caseworker, who was friendly and compassionate as well. She told me how he did the previous evening and how his morning had been going. She also updated me about his therapeutic schedule and when I would be speaking with the doctor. I was concerned they would just give him medication and send him back to me a different kid. Thankfully, my son had been assigned a man named Dr. Puga and after speaking with the doctor during a "staffing", I felt much better about the direction they were headed with treating my son's problem behaviors. My son spent the next 8 days receiving treatment on the both the boy's unit and the "behavior intervention unit", which was the unit for kids with special needs. I was impressed with the care and compassion that my son received during his stay and though I would hope none of my friends or family would ever NEED to send their child to a place such as Streamwood, I would recommend it to them if their children needed the same help that mine did. read more

A staff seriously hit me here. I went to tell another staff and the staff I told said I deserved it. Also the staff would routinely tell the kids to attack me. Which the kids usually did. I was attacked 5 times by other patients. This place needs to get shut down. read more

This was hell within walls. My son was depressed. The hospital we brought him to (which we are familiar) had no beds available. After 24 hours we were forced to make a decision (and there was not much to pick from). We took Streamwood because they separated depressed boys from the aggressive boys. But when we got there, no beds were available in that section so they had to put him in the aggressive section which they told me they would move him in the morning. He was not moved until late afternoon. By that time he had food thrown at him, been spit on, watched boys urinate on the walls for the fun of it, seen several boys put in restraints. The following day we tried to get him removed but the process could not begin until Tuesday (which would begin a 5 day wait they wad procedure in which they could accept or deny-if denied it becomes a case for the court). The only way our was to find another bed in another facility. We called where we wanted him and no availability. We told our son to give us another day. At first, I felt a little better because he was in a "calmer" section. We were blessed and able to get him transferred where we wanted that day. However, while he was waiting to get transported they were out of room and had to put a boy in who had raped. In the short time he was beginning to throw around furniture toward the in windows trying to escape, so the other boys had to be put on "lock down" just like a jail. How any child could getter better in a place like this, I have no idea. We were there for several hours on the weekend trying to get him out and there was not one structured activity for these boys. I found it hard to believe that a place like this one was even legal. It was a complete nightmare. As a parent I couldn't sleep at night. I cannot even begin to imagine how my son felt. This was the age group from 12 to 17 years old. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR SON TO GO HERE. It is hell on earth. read more

I was admitted 3 years, 3 months and 1 day ago into the Streamwood Center and I am forever grateful that I was. I was supposed to be at Alexian Brother's, however there were no beds. I am now a 19 year old girl who has her ups and downs like everyone else, but is generally happy. The staff and psychiatrists at Streamwood were all genuine and only wanted to help. The facilities were okay, nothing brand new, but well kept. The activities and service that they provided were very efficient and you never felt alone. I'm not saying that I want to go back because that would mean being at a place as low as I was then and I don't want that, but if I needed to be treated again, Streamwood is where I'd want to be. (Even though I'm 19 now and wouldn't be allowed haha). Thanks for everything, Streamwood. read more

This is a horrible atmosphere for healing and recovery. Very lonely and made things worse than before I was admitted. This place felt like prison and made me so uncomfortable. So many things need to be changed about this place. It was a horrible traumatic experience for me and I believe that this is one of the worst places to be in if you are trying to heal. No mental hospital is an enjoyable experience but the atmosphere is very important, and this place has a horrible one. There are a million problems with this place. Most staff made me feel irrelevant and like I didn't matter. Very rare visiting hours and phone call time. Zero privacy , even in the bathroom and shower. Say in one room the entire day. Suicidal and homicidal children were mixed together in the same room. They kept changing my roommate. The beds and rooms were so uncomfortable and saddening and lonely. Was woken up very abruptly at 4am my first night there to get my blood drawn, which is hard for me. Food was gross and made me nauseous, showers were horrible so I felt dirty my entire stay. The nurses window was a room behind glass and they would ignore us for sometimes 10 minutes while I stood at the window waiting to get a tampon just so I could use the bathroom. They stood in there and talked like we were invisible. Therapists and Psychiatrists are assigned to you but they work very slowly and don't see you often. These are only some of the ways I can try to explain what a horrible experience this was. I know mental hospitals need to have specific rules that suck no matter what, but they could improve in so many ways. Right when I got there they acted as if I knew what I was supposed to do and just threw me in with everyone and it was very rushed and unwelcoming. also the body check, Including the squat and cough was me and two staff members in a small closet like room. I had no idea what was going on because I had never experienced something like this before and they talked to me very rarely. They talked at me and treated me like I was in trouble. I understand why these checks need to happen and this process needs to happen when you get admitted, but no one wants to take all their clothes off in front of others and squat and cough, so they could at least be more comforting. This is NOT the place to go if you are in need of inpatient care. Every night i got my 10 minute phone call i called my guardians/siblings and cried and told them to just please do whatever possible to get me out as quickly as possible, because that was not the place for me, and i don't believe it is the place anyone should be when they are going through something and in need of care. My guardians hated this place also, and my follow up doctor said that all the patients they get from this specific hospital say the same things. And then then when my guardian told the follow up social worker what a traumatic experience It was she said it was because of the hospital. If you or your child are in need of inpatient care, it's very important you do it, but I highly suggest you don't do it here. read more

Worse place ever, I went here when I was 15 and stayed for only a month. During that month my "doctor" diagnosed me with several different things that were just totally far fetched. He gave me abilify and benadryl, first off it says right on the abilify to not take benadryl with it because it can cause seizures or even death. So I am home for about 3 days when I start having really bad muscle spasms causing me to back-hand my baby brother. We called the doctor and he told us it was normal my body was just still getting used to the meds its fine. Two days later I was sitting on the couch when everything went dark I started choking. My mother was the only one home and just happened to walk into the room I was having a severe seizure and choking on my own tongue. My mother got me to stop and called my doctor, he once again told us it was fine it happens no big deal keep taking meds. We got scared so we went to ER and they asked me what meds I was taking after telling them the doctor and nurse both looked at us and were like what you're taking benadryl with abilify thats deadly. So I stayed over night and stopped taking my pills. I still have occasional seizures but not to often anymore I am 19 now. The same thing happened with my brother Devin. Same doctor Husain(or whatever) My brothers kidneys were shutting down. I will never forget that night. He came into our mom's room and told her and I that he loved us but he wouldn't be waking up in the morning. We immediately got scared called doctor were told it was ok again. This time I told my mom there is no way he needs to go to ER now. We went and were told his organs were starting to fail and had he gone to sleep he would have died. He is better now but the doctor never even got so much as a slap on the wrist either time. read more

My teenage son was admitted there last month after a suicide attempt. Apparently he had been bullied for being gay. We didn't even know he was gay and were beside ourselves. We didn't know what to do. He had tried to hang himself and we were terrified. From the moment of our first contact Streamwood staff put our mind at ease. The assessment worker was kind and patient and educated us about the hospital process and even let us see the rooms where kids stay. The very next day we were contacted by the nurse, doctor and therapist working with our boy. The took so much time to educate us about depression and what it means to be parents to a gay kid. The doctor explains about the medicine he was recommending. They connected us with a therapist and psychiatrist that would be open to working with gay teens and even found a support group for our son. Streamwood gave us hope in our family's darkest hour. They are an asset to the community. read more

My 5 year old was put in there inpatient program at streamwood behavioral health. It was horrible from the moment we walked in the doors. Rude staff which immediately lied to my son taking him from his parents to get food and saying you will see mom and dad in a few minutes. After signing paperwork they refused us to see our son or even seeing the facility. We demanded the return of our son immediately and were refused to let us take him saying he was a danger. He was being treated for defiant disorder which was not displayed in excess in our home. Please do not allow your child to be placed in this unprofessional, disrespectful and horrible place unless you like no communication with your child and no answers to your questions. Doctors and some nurses and therapists were knowledgeable but the balance of the staff was a joke. Stay clear of this hospital if they get there hands on your child they won't let you get your child back without attorney or police involvement. I was admitted into this behavioral center after a panic attack/suicide attempt. I arrived around 10 AM, I sat on a chair in the hall wearing nothing but a hospital gown until 11:30 AM. They were so unorganized it was insane. I was told from other girls in the common room right at the beginning which staff to avoid. There were about two staff members that actually seemed to care about the patients. The rest would discuss their own personal life during "sessions". Nothing was done about particular patients that would constantly disrupt the rest of the group's treatment. We were talked to like dogs, the food was inedible and no accommodations were made for vegetarianism. I was there for exactly one week. The reason for that is because I was told that if I "act happy", I would be released sooner rather than later. As if a recovery that quick was so simple in those kinds of conditions. We were to stay in one room for all of our day, only to leave if we had to use the restroom. I was released after a week, but I had no treatment whatsoever. But, I was on a butt load of medication they gave me. Didn't help me. It numbed me. Soon enough, I was back at Streamwood, this time in the outpatient program. Could have been worse. Except, I was 16 at the time. Everyone else was 12. So, i felt very uncomfortable with the healing process. read more

been there twice for many reasons. i love the staff. they're nice people and honestly i never wanna go back but the staff would always be there for me when i needed someone to talk to and they were really nice to me. shout out to nick man! read more
