Cool spot! Came here with a friend on Thursday morning. There is a huge selection of used vinyls and equipment. They also offer cassettes and some books. The vinyls were grouped by music genre. They were in better shape than the $2 piles. The $2 vinyls weren't sorted, so it was fun to see what was available. As we were paying, the owner said that he regularly rotates what's out. Would come back to browse again! I found out about this place when I had purchased a few vinyls over at Minasan in Japantown and was told they were sourced from here. There is a small parking lot in the front, which was empty at the time, otherwise there is street parking nearby. There is a middle school nearby so the streets might be busier when school gets out. read more

My friend, James, is a regular here and shared this hidden gem with me recently. It's by far one of my favorite places to get my records now. Jeff is always welcoming and helpful. The selection of used vinyl records are expertly curated which helps to minimize wasted time looking through artists I could care less about and more time focusing on relevant selections in the shop. I had been in the market to purchase a new turn table and Jeff helped me find one that was a great fit for me. He had one behind the counter that wasn't quite ready to sell at the time I had asked, but he offered to fix it up and make sure it worked well before I took it home. Told me that he could have it ready to go before I was done browsing records. He ensured me that if I had any trouble with it, I could bring it back within 30 days. I have loved using it ever since. On The Corner Music is always clean and presentable. Everything is in place and very easy to navigate when it comes to searching for potential purchases. Not to mention, the generous discount section. I had found several treasures tucked away there and at a very reasonable price. You never have to worry about the quality of the album you purchase. I'm new to Vinyls and Google led me here. Walking in, I was surprised at the library of vinyls they had. They do accept cards, cash and Apple Pay. I had purchased Vinyls from Amazon and was shocked to see the same Vinyls here at a fraction of the cost. Not just a small fraction but almost more than a 50% difference. I only took off one star because of the customer service. It seems like most people were able to speak with Jeff and he was great, I didn't. After making my selections, I went to be checked out and had to wait for the cashier to stop talking with a coworker to get checked out. I'll go back because I was impressed with the prices and variety, hopefully I get a chance to meet Jeff and I'll update my review. read more

Not for me. I woulda felt mean giving an average-3 but they had the Live in London Beach Boys concert on vinyl. That cover specifically on cassette takes me back. I'd say this is more of a vintage shop if you're looking for original-pressed Rock or Soul records in as-is, player used conditions. It's a literal corner store with antique record players in the same state if you're into that thing. I would skip it for the other stores in the area. That's me. read more

How could you not love this place? I came here in 2012 and again this year, and the same laidback dude was there both times. It's all used, and nearly all older material (80's and before). The prices are all extremely fair. Whereas most vendors mark their stuff based on the Discogs median price, On the Corner takes into account the condition. As a result, there are a ton of VG-rated titles being sold for $2-5 that would be marked at $15 or more elsewhere. Perfectly playable with light scratches, if not in absolute mint condition. The owner was reviewing and pricing some new arrivals there and let me take a peek, (cheaply) pricing them on the spot for me. I feel like the South Bay area is lacking for good record stores, but this is the definite exception. Laid back, authentic, reasonably-priced, and in one of my favorite little towns. read more

The South Bay apparently has good record stores. If I owned a record store, it'd be a lot like this one. My friend invited me to an event where they had snacks, drinks and a vinyl sale. Talk about my kind of night - geeking out with fellow music nerds over music, food and drinks. It doesn't get better than that. There's no other way I'd want to spend my Friday night. No, seriously. It's a real shame they're in Campbell though because then I have to drive over there and it takes some effort. I had a fun time browsing the shelves and I even scored the Plimsouls record for only $5!!! Remember that song, "A Million Miles Away"? Well, now I just need to find me a good quality record player. I saw a lot of people walking out with stacks of albums. I will definitely stop in if I'm in the area and frankly, you should too, especially if you're a fan of vinyl. There's also some pretty cool art in there. The vibe is super friendly and I didn't see any sort of pretension like you do at other record stores. read more

My third update for this place finds me again with a stack of beauty under my arm. I got two Rolling Stones albums, two Police albums, Elton John's Honky Chateau, Queen Hot Spaces, Whitney Houston's debut album, Wish You Were Here, and other assorted gems. I brought a colleague to the place and he walked out with another original pressing of Dark Side of the Moon, Van Morrison, and John Lennon's Imagine. All appeared to be in good shape, some ring wear on the DSOTM and the posters were missing from that copy. Jeff had just acquired two copies, so unless it's gone already there's one left (but you all know that won't last). What's amazing is the turnover on the stock at the place. Going every few weeks, you still find most of the stock is new. He obviously talks to people continuously who sell him their stuff, and what's more is the vast majority of what's there has been cleaned, is in good shape, and isn't just filler. No warped, scratched to death thrift store stuff. We both shot the breeze between us for maybe a half hour, he's never too cool to talk to you. Lots of new vintage analog equipment in there two, stereo amps, turntables, all in ones, speakers... No blitzes planned for record store day, we were told anything a store buys from the organization has no return policy, so if things don't sell it's not their problem. Sounds like he's willing to take orders from those who would like to buy from him, but also with the limited production runs of new releases, the larger stores will likely get priority, so there's also no way to know what will actually be shipped. read more

Stumbled upon On The Corner Music today and amazed at how many records I bought compared to the larger Rasputin's and StreetLight Record stores. The inventory and the store are both very small, but the quality of the music selection and price made it way too easy to spend $. They have 2 listening stations. Got some great recommendations and will now make a weekly visit to expand my vinyl collection. Damn-it, I wish this place was not so close to work. June 2015 - Since my initial review, I have become fully addicted to rebuilding my vinyl collection and due to a lot of travel, I have shopped at record stores in San Francisco, Sacramento, Seattle, Fresno (actually found a very nice store out there by accident), and San Jose. My music taste ranges from rock (rebuilding my 70s-90s library: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, The Clash, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Pink Floyd, etc.), Jazz (Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Burt Bacherach, Thelonis Monk), downtempo (Thivery Corporation, DJ Cam, etc.), plus some Reggae. What I like the best about OtCM and the owner Jeff, is that I can always stop-by and find at last 6-8 albums that I just have to buy on each visit. His inventory is not expansive like the big stores, but he really knows his shit and his customers, so you are guaranteed to find a great selection of vinyl to buy every time you stop-by. Now that I have become somewhat of a regular, he always grabs some music for me to spin when I stop-by, and this is like having your own personal vinyl concierge. This place is awesome! I've only been here twice. I'm not from the area but when I'm in Campbell or passing by I'll try to stop at On the Corner Music. A small little record shop, but it seems as if I can find something here that piques my interest. One cool thing is that they have listening stations with a turntable and headphones. Another cool thing is that the owner is pretty well versed with his music and generally cares about music and vinyl in general. I also like the low key, old school vibe where time doesn't seem so rushed. Prices are decent and from what I've seen and the vinyl generally is a good shape. I would recommended this place to shop, especially if you're in the area! Or make a day of it since the shop is only a couple of blocks from downtown Campbell! read more

TINY store that is literally 'on the corner'. It is 95% vinyl with the rest being used stereo equipment, cassettes, posters, and CD's. The 'Bargain Bin' is worth digging through for playworthy copies of LP's you remember. The other bins are divided by genre and are mostly alphabetical. Cool to see a new store pop up! This is a record store with the suitable name, without the grumpy old record snob belittling you and pricing the merchandise upon looking at the stuff. Instead, you got owner Jeff and Lori, DJs and collectors who have a love for everything music and records. (I mean, they wouldn't start this place if they didn't.) It has a very boutique-ish like feel in that place, with a lot of their records placed into very polished and laquered wooden crates and listening booths to test drive the merch. Whereas some used record stores is just a place to collect a lot of dust, this place is very clean so those people with bad allergies (like moi) won't break out as often as if you were looking for records at a thrift store or your grandpa's crypt. As for selection, this is a place for discovery instead of getting that new hot shit on Tuesday. I don't know where Jeff gets his merchandise, but if you dig in those crates you're bound to find something. And if you do have discrminating tastes, don't worry because they seperate all the genres (with the dollar records on the floor). Just as Nate L. said, it is highly recommended that you establish a rapport with Jeff so he gets to know your tastes in music and will offer you suggestions in music. As for the people who don't have record players, they have a small selection of CDs that panders more to Indie rock (Arcade Fire, CSS, Beirut, etc.) and is priced slightly lower than your record store counterparts. in addition to your record nerd needs, Jeff and Lori have a few socials where they serve beer and refreshments and you don't have to pay tax on your stuff. Free exotic beer, decently priced records with no tax? I don't know about you, but I'm there, dude! In general, if you want a cool and clean place with a surprising collection of used records from all genres with very amicable owners, then is the place for you. Went here with a friend one afternoon. The store is, as other reviews have stated, literally on the corner and looks like a little extension of a woman's house. I was pretty surprised at the setup but I think that this only adds to the appeal of this cute little store. The store was a lot smaller than I had expected, but again, I think that this makes the browsing experience a little more personal. The prices are extremely reasonable. From what I remember, the store carries hip hop/electronic, soul, funk, classic rock, reggae, some world music i.e. Brazilian and Indian, among others. I ended up leaving with a copy of Jefferson Airplane's "Worst of Jefferson Airplane" album for only $4! I'll definitely be returning sometime to check out the selection. read more

There is not another record store like this in the area. It is a little shop literally on the corner in Campbell and has the charm of walking into someones home to share the gift of music. That is what it is, the gift of music. LPs of almost limitless wonder flow from all corners of the shop. If you are looking for something in particular, not only is there a chance that they will have it, but the guy working the counter will share with you a few other artist who will peek your interest. Did I mention the prices? For such a small shop in a high end location, you would think that the prices would be sky high, but they are not. You can easily find records of great quality anywhere from $1.99 to around $10. The best thing is that you can actually listen to them before you buy too. There are turntable stations around the place so that you do not play record roulette with your purchase. Add a bunch of cool art for sale all over the walls and you might never want to leave. This is the best local record shop since Radio Free Records was around in the late 90s. But unlike Radio Free, which moved to freakin' Chapel Hill, North Carolina.. (I mean really?), On The Corner Music is sticking around to sling the sound of music to the kids of San Jose. read more

After doing a bit of research online for local record shops I came across "On the Corner Music" and decided to check them out last weekend. It's a nice little shop located in a very visible location in downtown Campbell. That old grimy smell of dusty wax is prevalent right when you enter the door -- and it's lovely. I came out with over 10 records and barely spent 12 bucks. My goal is to visit every weekend from now on. Everything is priced decently and there are many gems to be found. It's great that there's a listening station available to preview the records so you don't waste your money on something you thought might sound good based on the album art. I could literally spend the whole day in the shop listening to records. I'm assuming Jeff is the owner, so I say to everyone please support his establishment! We need to keep vinyl alive, especially in the South Bay Area where spots like this are becoming extinct every year. Spread the word! read more

You will definitely want to devote a lot of time to rummaging through the bins and bins of records here. While I wish they had more new LPs in stock, the size of the genre-happy used selection is staggering and far-fetched. There is no organization system for half of the merchandise (aka, the discount bins lining the floor) so I would advise one to be prepared to dig, and dig long. Now, I would strongly urge people to patronize the mom-and-pops of Bay Area businesses and would love to see a place like this do well, because albeit a fledgling compared to its Rasputin, Amoeba, and Streetlight counterparts, On the Corner's service is absolutely excellent. From the second you walk in the door to the moment you leave--whether you are empty handed, or taking off with tons of records--the reception is warm, friendly, and helpful. Jeff will immediately acknowledge your presence and it seems like if you were ever to need help with finding music, he'd be the go-to. Listening to this guy talk about music is incredibly humbling. They have a bunch of cute players you can test music out on. Here, you get a sense not of pretention but of a genuine enthusiasm for music. This shop is one of the best shops in San Jose, and certainly up there for the entire Bay Area. When I go to a record shop, I look for prices, selection, and quality, but most importantly a knowledgeable owner. On The Corner Music has all four of these qualities. First and foremost, Jeff personally goes through all of the records before they hit the shelves, so the quality is the best I have seen for a used record shop. Because of this, the shelves aren't full of 99¢ records, but the prices are very reasonable, if not cheap, considering the quality. I haven't found a record there that had any sort of blemish or warp that affected the quality of playback, and if it did, it was marked on the outside of the records sleeve. There's a fairly wide range of music to choose from. I personally have only really dug through the electronic and jazz sections, and while I wouldn't say there is any particularly "deep" collection of any genre, I have always found something to buy and Jeff has always been able to hand me a stack of recently added records to listen too. I don't think there are any new records in the shop, and if you are really picky, this may not be the place for you. As an electronic music DJ, I end up purchasing all of my contemporary music from online vendors, but when I am searching for music in different genres and different sounds from different eras, On The Corner Music is my first stop. read more

Superb little joint. I hit Streetlight and Rasputin beforehand and came away with three records total; from OTC I bought eight. I'm still shaking my head at the great stuff I found, too: Pink Floyd "Great Dance Songs" for $2, Ray Charles Greatest and sealed K-Tel for $1 each, rare Break Dancing comp for $4 (Buffalo Gals, Rockit, etc.), Beach Boys Party! mono in great shape with complete photo cards for $5, Grandmixer D.ST Megamix II "Why Is It Fresh?" 12" for $5. Listening station has broken pitch control and no volume control--but bitchen EQ/filter knobs to make your music sound all weird. Jeff is young, smart, friendly, and loves music. There's a spirit of generosity I've noticed amongst folks who run my favorite record shops (Atomic in Burbank, for instance), and Jeff definitely has it: it's an attitude of, "yeah, I could probably get more for this record, but I really want to share it asap." There's not a lot of vinyl here--you could flip through every record in the store in all genres in about 20 minutes--but it's really curated, all killer no filler. A great little find. read more

Singles city! Singles everywhere! On the floor! By the door! In the back! Piled in stacks! Although he didn't have anything super rare that would have made me cream my pants, there were some good records to be found here still. I went to town on the fifty-cent singles and pulled out some classic freestyle, new wave, and 80s fare. The owner kept pulling stuff out of the back for me to check out and he was the total antithesis of the record store owner (translation: he was not a greedy curmudgeon). The store has a smattering of each genre - probably the best sections are the dance and new wave. In celebration of the impending Record Store Day (April 18, 2009), go visit a blast from the past like this store. There's also drawings and paintings up for sale from local artists, all of which were very unique and awesome but also out of my pocketbook range. read more
