Brief Summary: This is a predatory Orlando business targeting travelers. Upon arrival they tell travelers they cannot honor their original car rental reservation and must instead make a new reservation at the current day rate, which is hundreds of dollars higher. Details: The car rental agency operates under the following names: MEX rent a car, NEXTCAR, Facility rent a car. Zoom rental car, Stride rent a car. While they use a variety of names, in reality it is all the same business and location. They will then tell travelers they must cancel their original reservation and rebook with one of the "other companies" on site at the current daily rate, which is hundreds of dollars higher. I spoke with other travelers who told me they were coerced into paying 4 to 5 times the cost of their original reservation. These were often people who couldn't afford to do so and were financially vulnerable, but felt like they had no other choice but to comply. The company poses as a reputable agency but in reality they are targeting and deceiving unwitting travelers and extorting them for higher prices when they no longer have an alternative. Impact: Travelers at the location are exhausted, vulnerable, and still being preyed upon every day. These people had small children, elderly parents, and important life events they were trying to get to. It's a scam designed to force people to accept a substantially higher rate under duress. I have never encountered a situation like this in any other city or country I've traveled to. The fact that a business like this is being allowed to continue operating in Orlando is an embarrassment to the entire city, which relies heavily upon tourism. It was the worst experience ever!!! They misrepresented the price and hidden fees first off when I arrived. I had to wait 45 min for a shuttle to bring me to the place. They are NOT conveniently located at the airport. But the car was dented and smelled. They couldn't replace it, the customer service was HORRIBLE. Thank God I took pictures and videos the man at the counter (apparently the only one that works there. Small, Hispanic) tried to blame some glass damage. I had complained of several things when picking up the car. It was night time and pouring down rain. There was a chip in the windshield I didn't notice right away due to the time and weather conditions but I didn't record it with my iPhone which is dated and time stamped!! I was able to pull up video and exonerate myself. He was trying to stick me with glass damage! I will scream from the roof top don't rent from there! Despite several follow-ups by email and WhatsApp, I have not received any clear response from the department concerned. This was the worst rental car scam I have ever experienced. I paid $230 for a 13 day rental and insurance through Expedia to a company called Zoom. When I arrived to the airport, the shuttle took a while to arrive about 25 minutes after I called, and a company called Stride texted back and said they were on their way and sent a photo of a blue van. The sliding door to the van didn't close and a guest had to hold the door closed while we drove to the car rental. At the rental place there were 4 company names but no "Zoom" company or "Stride" comapany signage anywhere. They put me in a virtual tele prompted television closet with an agent through a television to explain all the added charges. They added $15 a day for a toll box, and they still charged me $3.11 toll charge, and a $25 a day MANDATORY liability insurance charge, even though I already have the purchased car insurance, and my own liability insurance. He Took a photo of my license and credit card, and said it wouldn't work so then I had to give them another credit card. Which they took a photo of, very SHADY! They emailed multiple receipts, and then still took my credit card at the counter to some girl, who was no help at explaining anything when I asked about all these charges, she acts like I'm crazy and gaslights me, like I should have known this is the cost of the whole rental. NO, the cost was supposed to be $230 tops. Her attitude was awful and shows she has the same terrible conversations with the customers everyday. And after the card still didn't work in their virtual tv closet. All of that was very shady to me. My card just being passed around too much. Why three charges and not just the one charge. Looking at the receipt it looks like they charged a $400+ charge, a $505 mystery charge and a $600 mystery charge. Basically MAXED my card out before I even got the car for my trip. Nothing on the receipt said $230 for that I had already paid. They basically charged me triple for this rental, over $1000 dollars. Then the whole trip, they texted everyday demanding a review, and that I need to screen shot it, that felt very unprofessional and shady to be texting me other than for the shuttle. AFTER I RETURNED THE CAR, they STILL never returned the deposit! I have to work with my credit card company for them to return it. When I texted and asked. They first asked for my reservation number to look up the rental. Shouldn't they have that already? THEN They said it needs an inspection before they would return it, up to 30 days. They said it was a security deposit HOLD, not a charge, which I had to pay my credit card bill, taking 30 days to return money that should not have been charged is unacceptable. I'm sure they rented the car out as soon as I dropped it off and they washed it. Why the hold up with the deposit? WHY all these extra miscellaneous charges on the receipt after I already paid everything ahead of time, including the insurance. THEY added they random charges. BUYER BEWARE! I'm actually afraid to ever rent a car again, if they can just add whatever miscellaneous fees they want! Awful company and awful staff. After waiting an hour for a shuttle (other companies had shuttles running every 15 minutes.,as promised) I was met with the "we don't have your reservation" scam. Through the hour and a half long digital agent process they worked to rebook me in their system, requesting me to show them my credit card, in which they took screen shots of as well as all my insurance information. After back and forth with some digital customer service, the agent told me I needed to pay additional $550 to cover things that my full-coverage personal insurance does not cover. This is something I have never heard of or run into at other car rental companies. At that point, the scam was in full effect. I gathered my items and shuttle back to the airport to rent from a reputable company who I could trust. Have it been known we were not the only person in the hour and a half span that left with no car. For your own travel satisfaction, I would NEVER suggest you use this company. While the agent inside the rental area was extremely nice and helpful. Attempting to reach a customer service agent over the telephone is impossible. I called several times to let them know that I was having issues. I was going to be late and each and every time an agent was not available. It said that they could reach me through text messages or through the WhatsApp app. However, no one ever contacted me. No one ever answered the phone. I had a lockout with the rental and was not able to reach anybody through the phone thankfully, I had my own roadside assistance service and they helped me get back to my hotel. I would not recommend this car rental place to anyone as it is an absolute mess to deal with. not to also mention that the windshield had some type of film on it and we try to wash it and it was nearly impossible to see through the windshield. This is the worst rental car experience I have ever had. I waited 50 minutes for the shuttle with my baby and it never came. I had to end up getting a taxi at my own expense just so I could get to the rental office before it closed. The agent at the desk was extremely indifferent, and I then had to speak to the virtual agent who took over 30 minutes just to fill out the paperwork so I could get a car. Then the first car I was provided was in such bad condition the roof was literally falling down inside, so after turning in my damage form the desk agent then told me I had to switch all of my belongings and car seat into a different car because that one had too much damage, he didn't bother to go out and check out what I was talking about. I was supposed to get my rental car at 8:30 PM and I didn't get to leave the lot until 10:30 PM. Not to mention that there were hidden fees due upon my arrival. I will tell everyone I know not to rent from Next Car, because I think it is a scam and if I did not have my husband with me, I would've felt very scared and unsafe to be in that area at 10:30 at night with my baby. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. I booked a car here due to a last-minute change. This place is in the hood and have four "agencies" under one roof. Mex, Stride, Next car and a few others. Read other reviews here for details. The whole place looks slapdash and borderline dangerous. I returned the car on schedule several days later. The clerk at the counter demanded that I give him my phone so that he could be assured that I left a positive review. Obviously, I declined and left on the shuttle to MCO. Two weeks later, I got a call whilst running errands informing me that they would be adding a 450 dollar surcharge (after the fact) since the car was returned "dirty". There was a small amount of residual sand on my shoes from a trip to the beach and they somehow decided to charge my credit card four times the actual car rental price for this. BUT, the guy who called said that the fee would be waived if I sent them a video of me leaving them a good review on a similar review website. Under duress, I did this and documented my objections to them in writing. They never did refund my $450. I contacted the Florida Attorney General's office and initiated a credit card dispute. These twits actually had the stones to complain to my card company about the chargeback. Fortunately, due to documentation I had kept (and ironically, the pictures of the sand that these clowns sent to my card company) the chargeback was upheld and my money was returned. I am writing to report that the car rental company Stride is NOT a reliable firm and that no one should rent a vehicle there. They do not return security deposits for car rentals. They do not respond to emails, they do not respond on WhatsApp, and they take advantage of consumers' good faith. I rented a car for only 24 hours (on June 12) at the Stride branch located at 2720 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140. To rent the car, they required me to make a security deposit of $350, telling me that if I did not leave that amount, I would not be able to rent the vehicle. I made the deposit from my checking account. I returned the vehicle in perfect condition. They took photos and gave me a receipt. They emphasized at the counter that the $350 would be refunded very quickly, within a few days, they told me with a smile on their faces. As the weeks went by and nothing happened, I emailed Stride to find out what was going on with the refund of my $350. Maria Quintero (Customer Service Representative) replied, telling me that the deposit refund process took between 15 and 30 days, not counting weekends. It is now August 22, 2025, meaning 71 days have passed and I have not received a penny back. If any American or foreign consumer has the bad idea of renting there, think twice. Worst car rental experience I have ever had. 1st rental facility is miles away from the airport. You have to catch a shuttle to get there. 2nd you have to talk to someone in a booth through a computer screen which takes about 10 mins to connect. 3rd I was told I have to use there toll system and that I cannot use my own, which was an additional charge. 4th, an additional charge for using my own car insurance (which I later regretted.) 5th, I was told and made to do my own car walk around and inspection and to make sure to take a picture and write down every ding, scratch and damage on the vehicle. The initial quote for the car was $30 for 2 days (great price). After the forced up charges $117. When I returned the vehicle attendant told me to wait inside while he inspects the car. He comes back and tells me that there is damage on the car. The bottom of the bumper lip was off a little ( looks to me like someone intentionally did it, no scratches or marks on the bumper lip, looks like it was pried open.) long story short, $516 on top of the inflated price!
