Coming from San Diego, I have some pretty high expectations for beer. When I think of a microbrewery, I conjure up Ballast Point or Stone Brewing. From a marketing standpoint, I think Strike Brewing doesn't try to compete with them. The good thing about Strike is the prices. $5 for a 22 ounce bottle? That's half as much as you would pay at most other craft microbreweries. The 6 tasters came across as very light and mild. The IPA was more like a regular pale ale. It paled in comparison with the San Diego IPAs I had expected. On the plus side, any of these beers are much easier to drink as session. Though I was not a huge fan of most of the selection as they came across as too light, the beer I did enjoy was the blonde/pilsner. That was meant to be a light beer, and yet it had some character and was refreshing and well balanced. read more

I decided to have some fun today and visit a few breweries this afternoon in San Jose. Strike was number two on my list. The beer was mediocre at best. The atmosphere was not great at all and the taproom had a horrible stench. The bartenders were not overly welcoming and clearly drinking out of boredom. Honestly I would not recommend this place. I have had some really great experiences here. The staff is great, the tap room is comfortable, and there is a nice selection of brews. Admittedly, my next visit might not be for a while. My boyfriend and I went to pick up his mug and had two glasses each and, as another yelper noted, they were on the warm side. The ping pong table that I proudly lose at has been replaced with tables. While I enjoy a family friendly environment whilst drinking, I do find it awkward to bring kids to--essentially a bar--when there isn't much food/no food regularly available. It's also a bit concerning seeing dust on the brewing equipment. read more

I bought a Strike Red IPA tonight and it tasted like an Irish red malt-bomb. I unfortunately can't tell if this is due to the retailer holding onto and selling old beers or if Strike's beers are just subpar. I have to assume that if you don't put a packaged or best buy date on your cans then you're afraid they won't sell quickly. Step up and at least let us know if your beer is fresh by putting some sort of date on it. Otherwise we consumers can end up tasting old beer and ultimately blame the experience on your craftsmanship. Quick example, I was in the same store and saw a Knee Deep Simtra Triple IPA which I love. I checked the date and decided I didn't want an IPA from 6 months ago. If there was no date on the bottle I could have blamed Knee Deep for the faded hop profile. Come on Striker, protect your rep, get dates on your cans. read more

Great beer , cool performance by ground score willie . I had two pints of the brown ale and my friend had a pint of the IPA. The brown ale has a great malty flavor, with a hint of chocolatey goodness. The IPA smells and tastes very hoppy, not my style but my friend enjoyed it. My only critique is that seating was limited when we first arrived, but we played ping pong so we were occupied while waiting for seats to clear up. Great experience overall ! Great atmosphere and beers here. The variety changes and the tasting area is literally in the middle of the brewery. They have flights, pints, and everything you'd expect from a brewery/retail location. The night we went they even had a taco guy inside providing some excellent food to go with the drinks. read more

First time i tried a beer from strike it was at an events and I cant remember exactly what I had it was a lighter beer of course, but non the less it was amazing I had to go back for more. Eventually they sent me home with three different long neck bottles once the event was over. ( I was a vendor at the event as well) The staff at this event was amazing so i figured i'd find where the brewery was and take a look. This was probably the best decision i've made ever. The atmosphere was so welcoming and friendly very laid back. Loved the arrangement of it because when you first pull up its a little confusing because in a commercial warehouse type neighborhood it's like a giant party inside once you go inside it's amazing. There's a beer for everyone here and I just read they offer flights so you know i'll be back VERY soon. Don't miss out on this gem. read more

Now this is my kind of place! This is a great local brewery without being pretentious at all it's so mellow just an overall great place to hang out with friends. They always have different beers in tap so it's great to go in and try something new every time. The tables are like picnic tables so they are great to have a bunch of friends sitting around talking or playing some games which they have there for you to borrow. Also sometimes they allow dogs so honestly it can't get any better than that drinking some beers and seeing some cute dogs. I just become a mug member so it's safe to say I really love this place! Awesome spot in San Jose area. They had a ton of beers on tap and free popcorn to munch on. My friends and I played the ping pong and the foosball table they had in there. Full disclosure: I was the second "investor" to buy into this venture. That said, my expectations for the beer quality and unpretentious atmosphere were very high. This place never disappoints. Their IPA is just fine, but where they really excel is in their session brews. These lagers and and pale ales are often bland afterthoughts from other brewers but Strike does a fabulous job with them. Started out with a flight of 6 which enabled us to zero in on favorites with the help of their handy cross reference map. I don't prefer much bitterness, so my faves were their spicy citrusy Wit and a smooth double dark the name of which I can't recall...so maybe it was a triple? :) IPAs are not my thing but a few of the guy I was with said those were great as well. Would be nice to have some munchies but they are ok with bringing in food which I suggest you do unless you have a designated driver. Of the three San Jose breweries clustered together, this one has the best set up. Regulars can join the mug club for XL beers when they attend. You can bring outside food. They also have fun events like Bingo, board game nights, trivia, and an annual beer run. I follow them on Facebook to learn about their events. I have been many times. Around late 2011, early 2012 Strike Brewing Company hit the scene. Founded by 3 former collegiate athletes, who, after attending a Giants game, realized that people who live active lifestyles don't have a lot of choices when it comes to high flavor-low alcohol beers. They've made a name for themselves by setting up tents at tons of local marathons, triathlons, and other athletic events to give participants a well earned beer after completion. Their original 4 beers which include the Blonde, (award winning) Brown, Porter, and Wit, are part of their Session Series. Session beers are great because they have the full flavors of normal craft beer (pardon the oxymoron) but are less than 5%; all of which enables you to have a nice long "session" of beer drinking without falling on the floor afterwards. On top of their Session Series beers, Strike also has an IPA, an Imperial Red, and a Stout, and a variety of rotating seasonal beers as well. My favorite Strike beer definitely has to be their Imperial Red, which also won a gold medal in the US Open Beer Championships in 2013. Strike is also great because I can consistently find them at Costco. Also, on October 4th, Strike will be having their official grand opening. After contract brewing through Hermitage for years, Strike finally got the funding to build their own brewery and tap room which will be decorated with mugs from their Kickstarter donors.
