It was a hit with my family because the kids were able to get ice cream bars from downstairs to eat while the adults had some beverages on the rooftop. I came here last Monday for a few drinks before the (life-changing) Linkin Park concert at SAP Center... and what a perfect way to get the evening started! Floodcraft is a charming, laid back rooftop brewery right above the Whole Foods. From the moment you walk upstairs, it feels like a cozy neighborhood bar. We were warmly greeted by the cashier when we arrived, and it was quick and easy for us to order our beers and grab a seat right at the bar. They have an excellent rotating beer selection at very affordable prices - there's something for any beer (or cider) lover here! You can also bring any food you want from Whole Foods up to Floodcraft, so we ordered two large pizzas and ate them right at the bar. Incredible. Finally, I have to give a special shoutout to our bartender - I wish I'd remembered to get his name, but he totally made our night. Not only was he cheerful and fun throughout, but also very generous. When he noticed my partner and I accidentally grabbed each other's beers and started drinking them (rookie move on our part), he poured us each a free taster of our proper beer and handed them to us. And right before we left for the concert, he gave us another free taster of their highest ABV beer as a pre-concert treat. He absolutely made our experience! The beers here are absolutely delicious--wow! And the staff, especially Johnny, was fantastic. This place is a must-visit if you're heading to a Sharks game. They'd be missing out if they didn't start distributing sixtels or pony kegs to Sacramento! 5 stars for the beer selection and laid back setting. I've tried several of their beers in the past while watching sports on their two TV's at the bar. This time, I got the Floodcraft West Coast IPA Lives, and it was good. I tried my friend's Toppling Goliath Pineapple Papaya Fandango, and it is super fruity! There's a good amount of seating for such a small space. And they have heaters above (for those cooler days) since the venue is entirely outdoors. Service is friendly, and the worker clarified that they close at 9pm on Saturdays, with last call at 8:30pm (even though their hours posted online say otherwise). I usually get lucky with street parking right out front. But there's also the Whole Foods parking lot in the back, since this is pretty much attached to Whole Foods on the Alameda. They allow outside food to enjoy with your beer, so it's easy to grab something from the store before heading over. read more

I passed this brewery a couple of times while shopping at Whole Foods, but I finally got the chance to go this past weekend! I love the location because you can just grab food/snacks at the grocery store and bring it up. Around noon/1 PM, it was pretty empty. At 3 though, all the spots were taken. It seems like people like coming here for after-lunch/afternoon drinks. I think the drinks are reasonably priced, and we got our own flights for around $3-5 per 4 ounce pour ($15ish per flight). They have 20+ beers on tap and you're pretty much bound to find something you like. Some of them are quite strong too. I didn't catch his name, but the person working was super friendly. He was chatting us up while we watched the sports on the wall. Don't be shy about asking for recommendations. I would definitely come back! read more

What a sweet spot! Never would've expected a brewery that's a part of Whole Foods to be so cool! Really liked that even though it was a part of the store, it was disconnected and felt like its own spot. Awesome rooftop with a view of the SAP center. Could get loud when the train was going by, but really didn't notice it too many times during the couple hours I was there. They had heaters hanging so it stayed fairly warm for a cold night, definitely still needed a jacket though! Came on a Tuesday night around 6 and it was fairly crowded for the size of the space. There was only one table open when I arrived, but there was some outer bar seating available too. Some of the table were pretty big and probably could've been used as communal tables too if it had been more crowded. They had a pretty good tap list with a wide variety of brews. I opted for the PB & Jam sour, I was extremely skeptical about it but able to taste it before ordering and ended up being pleasantly surprised. This place is the PERFECT rooftop brewery. Right on top of a Whole Foods (you can bring food/drink you buy from there to the brewery) and great views out onto San Jose and the SAP Center. I came here with a big group of people (10) and we were able to find a table very quickly. Huge selection of beers for a small space and even alternatives like sours and hard kombuchas. This is an upstairs brewery, located adjacent to the Whole Foods store. There's quite a view up here, and it's fun watching the Light Rail trains go by. They have an excellent selection of about 25 different brews. Some are from their own brewery, and some other breweries. Today I got a light pilsner, and then went for one of their own IPAs locally brewed. Prices are reasonable, especially considering this high-cost area. There is free parking in the main Whole Foods parking lot. It's a bit of a narrow parking lot and I missed it the first drive by. Their special today was for a cheese board for $10. It's an interesting story about the origin of the brewery name. Thers a little placard that explains the name honors the staff who rejuvenated a flooded store in Austin Texas. Shoutouts to Ben the bartender for making our visit great! Small but mighty brewery that is actually owned by whole foods which is right next door. The patio has a great open view of the adjacent areas but capacity is roughly 10-11 tables so plan accordingly. They have happy hour M-F from 4-6 for drinks and food for $1 off. We arrived a little after four and were able to get a spot even though most tables were taken at that time. The beer selection on display was great and has something for everyone. Went up late (around 9:30pm) to grab a glass for my 6pk I got from downstairs. Bartender told me it was last call and that he's not able to give me a glass. That said, saw a guy on a bike that went up and asked for a pint in a glass and that SAME bartender casually went and served him, even though he clearly REFUSED to give me a glass after last call. Talk about confusion that I'm the one that paid for it and asked but being refused outright and then sneak a pint for someone else AFTER last call isn't the best thing to do. This place is so cute and what is even better is that it is located on top of Whole Foods. You can get some groceries and then enjoy some beers after. What I love about this place is that it has an upstairs patio and has a nice little patio on top. I love outdoor bars, you can come here on a warm day or in the winter when it is cooler (they have heat lamps to keep you warm). When my fiancé and I first arrived, we sat up right at the bar top since all of the bench tables were taken. When we closed out, we snagged a bench table to enjoy the view. I ordered a sour and my fiancé ordered a hazy. Both beers were delicious and were very refreshing on a warm day. We didn't get to try any of the snacks or food because we just ate but they do have a small selections of snacks. You can always bring your own snacks from whole foods to pair with your beers. They have a pretty decent selection of beers, great tasting beers, and friendly customer service. I will definitely be returning. read more

I've been to the Floodcraft at the Santa Clara location and loved it. The only thing is that location only has indoors. The beertender there was very nice. Here, we felt less welcoming. We only asked to sample 1 beer per person and the male beertender was like ok this is the last one after the 3rd one. Kind of stingy...Usually beertenders are nice to offer samples themselves. It's not like we weren't going to buy a glass of beer. They had hazy ipas, sours, ciders, etc. Good variety. It's all outdoor seating so it's great for covid times. There's even heaters hanging above us. The restroom is downstairs, whie the brewery is upstairs. You need a code to get to the restroom door. Pakring was easy since Whole Foods has their own parking lot and plenty of street parking. Not that busy for a Saturday around 5:30pm. read more

Welcome to my 113th brewery visit! So I'm not a big fan of Whole Foods, but this one has a brewery on site! How cool is that? You actually walk past the entrance to Whole Foods, then up some stairs and BOOM! There's a brewery on an upstairs patio! It's a very cool setup that has tarp-type covers that can be closer to provide share and in case of rain, but can open up for sunshine. They also have heaters set up for cold evenings. The outdoor bar area really has a Caribbean vibe to it, not the decor but it just made me recall times I've had beer at beach bars in the Caribbean, or Mexico. I was greeted by one of the servers like I was an old friend. Actually he thought he recognized me as being there before but once he knew I was a Floodcraft virgin, he explained that they are one of only two Whole Foods breweries. The other is in Texas he said. Since they had 21 beers on the menu, I just asked him to set me up with a flight of whatever they were particularly proud of. A flight of four showed up in front of me moments later. I was surprised that three were IPAs and one was a pale ale as they do have a good range of styles. It turns out in looking more closely at the menu that they are serving beers from other breweries as well. It looks like they have nine Floodcraft beers with ALL being IPAs or pale ales. I'm going to have to branch out from the Floodcraft beers to get other styles I see... Citra Fix IPA is really great! Nice citra aroma and flavor with light bitterness. I could drink this all day long. Choose Your Reaction IPA is an American IPA that just didn't stand out for me. Not bad at all, just nothing about it made me want to drink more. Off The Rails IPA is, yes, an American IPA. This one was good. A little more bitterness than the other two, but doesn't compare to the Citra Fix. Shedding Demons pale ale. I have to wonder about the name, but regardless it had a little more bitterness than I expected. It had decent flavor but didn't grab me. Ok, time to branch out to some non-Floodcraft beers. I spotted a Märzen on the menu and jumped at that. Yes, I like IPA's and hippies bets but I also appreciate more traditional beer styles. There is a lot to be said for balancing hops and malt. The Märzen was from Shadow Puppet brewing in Livermore and will be on my list of breweries to visit. If I live long enough to visit all the breweries on my list I will be older than Methuselah. Floodcraft also has some food available. I tried the garlic fries, which were pretty good but nothing to write home about. The Korean fried chicken sandwich tempted me but I wasn't that hungry. Do I recommend Floodcraft based on their beers? Yes. But I would really like to see them brewing some other styles besides IPA's. Maybe they do and I just missed them this trip. I give Floodcraft 5 stars for good beer, excellent atmosphere, and great service. The dude that helped me at the bar was great. If it was just based on the beers I might go 4 stars, but a shout out to Johnny for the great service, as well as the excellent atmosphere. This place is a great pitstop before an event at the SAP center. It's right around the corner from the venue and it's super chill. Outdoor seating, you order upstairs and can eat/drink upstairs or down. Only shared picnic tables downstairs, and mostly upstairs with some ledge spots but they can get pretty sunny and hot. SOARING WITH BEER FLIGHTS! Want to unwind after a long week? Catch up on the newest with a good friend? Sample tasty selections of beer? Pick up some groceries downstairs while you sober up? If so, then follow suit and do what we did on a recent evening out. Here, at MCB, one can enjoy an outdoor feel under a nicely covered upstairs patio deck. When we arrived for Happy Hour, all of the tables were occupied by thirsty patrons. We definitely did not want to mull around with food in one hand and beer in the other, all whilst standing, so we politely asked two people if we could sit at their table for four; they graciously welcomed us. Orders for both food and drink are at the counter up front. Almost as quickly as you can pay, your beer pours are ready to take with you. For your food items, there is a little wait, as you are given a number to place on your table. For our first visit here, we went with the most obvious of choices: beer flights! Each beer flight includes 4 - 4oz pours of any beer from their chalkboard. That night they listed 18 from which to choose. Simply fill out the, "Pairing & Tasting" form. They will arrange your pours, from left to right onto a wooden paddle, in the order that it is written. Since I prefer the lighter beers, I chose: Witbier (Belgian Wheat), The Citizen (CA Lager), HefeWeisse and their Mission Creek Soley Citra Pale Ale. They were all very good; however, my favorite was the Mission Soley Citra. It is a single-hopped American Pale Ale with tropical fruit flavors and aromas of mango, guava, passionfruit, and pineapple. There is also a touch of orange zest and grapefruit. It was like simultaneously drinking and sniffing a bouquet of deliciousness! For our munchies, we had the Duck Brioche and a Fungi Pizza. No need for "beer pairing", as both items went well with ALL of our beer selections. What a wonderful evening with a special friend. To top it all off...we "sobered up" in the vast, colorful aisles of Whole Foods Market, one of my favorite places to lose myself. read more
