1st of all, it's hard to imagine a better view for dining in Manteo, or even in the area. We sat on the 2nd floor which was more of a bar area. I had the grilled tuna and it was cooked perfectly. The only issue was with the service. Hear me out, it wasn't bad service. In fact the young man that took care of us worked his butt off. He just needed someone else in there with him as he had way too much going on at once. He did good, it just definitely took a bit longer...but he clearly did all he could do. Will return here next year. And love that they are open on Mondays! read more

Let's begin with the positive stuff, friendly staff who are difficult to find when you have a question or need something. The View is amazing of all of the yachts in the marina. Overall the decor is nice and comfortable. Unless someone orders a frozen drink. The Blender is louder then my Dad's old pull lawn mower . No one in my he bar / grill could escape the deafening sound it made. The menu choices were limited and the food at best looked thrown together. My Onion Rings at first were forgotten then when asking where they were was served an order that was burnt beyond recognition. The spiral fries could have doubled for architectural shingles. So flat, so dry so burnt. Someone in our party ordered Shrimp and was sick the next day. Bottom line decent place for a friendly drink when they decide to replace the LOUD Blender. Not a good place for a meal that you might want to stay and hope to enjoy. There are so many better places to find a better meal the Stripers. read more

Lack of any presence of customers at the bar except for her bunch of every nighters. I noted a serious lack attention to me as customer she did not know. Three months later as in four nights ago. I bring in 14 guests and made the reservation in advance at 7:30 pm. Same girl waiting our table. My Boat owner, friends and very good guests of ours fishing the Pirates Cove Tournament. I hated to see her coming but she was part of a two server team serving us. Once again, rude comments non appreciative behavior that we were there as customers. Absolutely disappointed that I suggested bringing this group to Stripers. So tonight, after the Pirates Cove tournament ended. My wife and I are staying at the Burrus Inn next door. I am a captain of the Anticipation and lived in Manteo for about 10 years with a very successful charter fishing business out of Pirates Cove. Tonight, I gave Stripers a third chance since June. My wife and I walked around from our hotel room and although it was a bit late by Manteo standards. 8:35 pm on a Saturday night I didn't expect any problems. As the restaurant advertises it does not stop Serving until 9pm. When we got there we were offered seats on the first or second floor. We chose the first because we knew we were looking for a quick in and quick out. Unfortunately, the same server ( bartender) waited on us again. Piss poor attitude. She did not like waiting on us . There were plenty of people still there but there was again a Lack of attentiveness or care and some crow bird friends at the bar. Her level of attentiveness to us was zero. She dropped the food on the table and went back to her world. I ordered the seared tuna meal. No soy sauce, no chop sticks tasted like it sat out for hours. So in short. I won't be going back there and I am embarrassed I brought 14 very important people worth of business to this restaurant that obviously could care less and then went back for third slap in the face. If I was a restaurant owner and heard this after my third try there I would be be making some serious thoughts about management and staff changes and I have a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management as well as a family that has been in this same business in Virginia Beach for decades. read more

Stumbled upon Stripers when we were going into Manteo and I'm so glad we did! The food was great; we had the cream of crab soup, crab dip, loaded bloody marys, ceasar salad, open face prime rib sandwich, and lobster street tacos. The lobster tacos were amazing. I got an extra side of the citrus aioli and it was so good. The tequila lime ceasar dressing was sooo good. We'll definitely be back again when we come to NC! read more

Let me tell you that this place is hard to find, but once you find it and try their fresh fish, you'll want to keep coming back. This bar and grille is nestled in a little condo community on the water with docks. Your GPS might not know where to go, as ours didn't, and we had to use Google Maps. We were immediately seated when we walked in and decided to eat outside under the sun and with great views of the water. I had a bloody Mary and it was great. Very potent and I was extremely good after one, plus they are filling. My mom and I decided to split our meals, so we each ordered something that we would want to try and share. We went with the soft shell crab BLT with fries and the local grouper with potato salad. Both were so amazing. This was the first place we went to where we fell in love with the fresh local seafood in North Carolina. Each fish was done great and we were so full that I didn't eat the bread part of the grouper. Went for an early dinner before driving across to see The Lost Colony. We arrived around 5:30 and were seated quickly. The staff were friendly enough and service was pretty quick but with the exception of the crab dip, the food was meh. My husband had the crab cakes which were ok but didn't hold together well. I had fried shrimp which you can't really mess up but the seasoning was bland. The coleslaw was good though. There is upstairs and downstairs dining space, so lots of seating and upstairs has a water front view as long as you're not stuck in a far corner like we were. read more

The dinner was mediocre. Our party of five was a little disappointed. Nobody's meal was hot at all. Two ordered fish tacos. One thought they were too spicy; the other liked the spice. Both agreed they were okay. One ordered the Mahi bites and thought they were dry, and he only got a very small amount. One in our group ordered the red snapper. He said it was good but a little heavy on the batter. I needed a break from seafood so I ordered the sirloin. If it was seasoned I couldn't tell. It was tough and lukewarm. My wife and I went for a last minute dinner. The spot is beautifully located on the water, however storms in the area prevented outdoor seating(which is fine). We were seated right away and server was right there for drink order and appetizer. My wife had chardonnay and i had Woodford . Ordered blackened fish bites to start. The fish bites were delicious and we both enjoyed them. For dinner i had the cheeseburger n fries and the wife got burnt ends(req'd well done) with hush puppies. She loved the butter that came with hush puppies, but the puppies had a pretty plain taste. Im not sure what method of cooking(crock pot maybe)the burnt ends, but they looked at tasted horrific. Like no other burnt ends we have ever had before. My cheeseburger was average taste and nice size..fries were average. The chardonnay had a funky taste as well, so the wife had a awful dinner experience. Mine was average. The server was good but did not recognize the burnt ends were not touched and did not ask if there was a problem. Its funny, the server next to us had noticed and asked if there was a problem as she cleared the table. Wife explained they were not good at all. Worst treatment I have had in a restaurant in my entire life. We had a reservation for 4:30, because we had plans later in the evening. Slow service to get drinks and orders, and then we sat and waited for over an hour. At 5:45, we asked for our meals to go. We were handed bags and told that they contained all but one of our meals. The last meal STILL was not ready. I paid and left, but then discovered that we were missing one of the meals I paid for, and another meal had leaked all over the bag of food, including on my child with a food allergy's meal, rendering it dangerous for him to eat. I went back inside and asked for a partial refund, since they charged me for food we didn't receive and also food my son couldn't eat. The manager or chef, not sure which, then came upstairs and proceeded to yell and swear at me, refuse to give me any money back, and untruthfully said the ticket only said "26 minutes" from when we ordered to the time we got our takeout. Completely false, and I see from other reviews here and on Facebook that this is their MO, to lie about the time on the ticket. When I mentioned my son's food allergy and how he could now not eat his food, she yelled at me that there was no allergy meal in the food we received. His meal was absolutely part of the food we received, so I have no confidence that it was prepared safely in the first place, even though we discussed the allergy with the waitress when I ordered his food. Additionally, a member of my family (whose meal was not ready by the time we had to leave) took their insulin when the waitress told us the food was ready and coming in a minute, 45 minutes before we ended up leaving. If they had not stopped somewhere else after leaving this restaurant and gotten something to eat, this could have turned into a life-threatening blood sugar emergency. So not only was I screamed and sworn at and given terrible service, but this restaurant put not one but two of my family members in serious danger. Unacceptable. read more

FYI... This place is a dive!! First and foremost,this is not a "nice waterfront restaurant," It is a dive bar that happens to have water views. If I were a local I would drink beer with friends here and have a good time, but I'm not and I wanted a nice dinner, this place isn't that. Fast forward to drinks... do not get the muddled jalapeño cocktail, my brother in law said it was disgusting. Sliced jalepenoes would have probably been fine, but something about crushing peppers with the seeds floating at the bottom was very off putting. My dad got the patron coffee chocolate cocktail, it was interesting, he seemed to like it. Slow motion to dinner... it took forever for our food to come out, we were dying! I think it took 45 minutes... we had two kids with us, and my dad ordered a soup that came with the meal and not before. Not including kids 3/6 meals were good... 2 that were not good were the fresh fish entrees, they tasted very fishy and nothing to write home about. The other miss was the steak that was ordered medium and came out well done. The good ones though... I got the jambalaya and it was very good actually, I would recommend. The fries with the sandwiches (my mom got some kind of teriyaki steak wrap) were delish along with the wrap. My sister also liked the fish tacos. Thank goodness the food was mostly decent. Another good thing is that it was very kid friendly and they had crayons and coloring menus for the kids, that was definitely nice and appreciated. I am sure there are a lot of nicer places to eat that would have a better atmosphere. The food was pretty good overall, but I can't say I recommend for when your on vacation. read more

My wife and I were very disappointed with the experience this past weekend. We decided to grab lunch on the way home to the mainland and, being Sunday, not much was open, but Striper's was and I asked my wife to go in to see if there was a wait or how the situation looked. She texted back that she'd gotten us a table right away, so I parked the vehicle and joined her. The wait staff was pleasant, but not very informative of the situation going on in the kitchen. We ordered a couple of beers, checked out the menu, looked at the other tables around to see their service, and placed an order for a couple of sandwiches with easy sides. Should have been quick and out the door... Time went on... 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes... no food, not even an update on our order. I had to ask the wait staff to check in on the food and was told they were short-handed, that the manager was handling Expo, and there were 4 orders ahead of ours. After 40 minutes had passed, I requested to cancel the order and she again checked the kitchen to then tell us it was being plated. We then requested to place it in carryout boxes so we could hit the road as we'd already been there nearly an hour. I asked the manager, politely, why it had taken so long to get the order plated. He was very unpleasant and informed us that we were mistaken, that he'd looked at the clock and it was exactly 39 minutes from when we'd placed our order to when we received our food and that we were very lucky to have received it within that amount of time. Soooo, 39 minutes is an acceptable amount of time to receive an order of a couple sandwich plates? I could understand if this was a Michelin restaurant with a reputation of phenomenal food with a renowned chef... but this was Sunday lunch, next to a marina, with a bar... He then replied that the kitchen had to serve three levels of restaurant, as well as take out. I replied that the hostess nor wait staff had informed anyone of that detail and that communicating some very basic information to the guests walking in the door would go a long way to manage everyone's expectations. Needless to say; that tone and response was uncalled for. I certainly hope this is just a side effect of the current situation with the pandemic and labor shortage, but rule one of managing a restaurant is that you don't deride your customers for asking simple and rational questions about extensive delays with their food. read more

Went from a nice find to not great to HORRIBLE in an instant. A place is only as good as it's managed and I have never been treated so rudely from a manager. It was a cute place on the water, felt like a local find. We ordered shrimp and grits... it took 40 + min and when she brought it out, our server said "we ran out of grits, so they put rice in it hope that's okay". We looked at it kinda funny bc shrimp and grits and shrimp and rice is a completely different meal. ALL we said was "would have been nice to know before you brought it out, I would have ordered something different". The Server went back to the kitchen and returned to say "she said we can fix you something else if you don't want it". We didn't want to wait another 45 min so we said it was fine. My husband tried to eat it but it was not good. He pushed it aside after picking shrimp out and we never said another word about the meal. She cleared our plates and brought us the check. We were writing on the ticket to leave when a lady manager approached us very aggressively saying "I heard you were not happy with your shrimp and grits" we explained we hadn't received grits but had received rice instead. She huffily made excuses that they didn't know were out of grits until end and had done their best changing a starch for a starch (almost shaming us for not appreciating it). She then said (with attitude) "well did she not offer to make you something else?" We agreed she did explaining we'd already waited 45 min and didn't want to wait longer for something else to be cooked. She got a bigger attitude saying "you only waited 45 min, at least it wasn't 120 minutes like earlier today,". Again kinda shaming us as if we were ungrateful. We said "nevertheless we didn't want to wait even longer for food". She continued on that they hadn't expected to run out and seemed almost mad that we didn't ask for something different. All this was with an attitude towards us (mind you we had never complained or asked the item to be removed from the bill but rather were paying the bill and just trying to leave). If she wanted to right the mistake she should have came to our table 30 minutes prior (or when she discovered they didn't have the items to make the meal!) instead of while we were leaving and already paid. She didn't like our answers to her questions and her continued angry approach to us made my husband say defensively, "well I think your service here sucks" (mostly referring to HER, the manager). Her response was very aggressive stating "well I think your attitude sucks and I hope you don't ever come back!" Lady, NO PROBLEM! You have poor kitchen management and HORRiBLE communication! Instead of apologizing, you attacked a customer who is SILENTLY paying for a meal that they did not enjoy (or order for that matter). We never made a fuss yet you approached us with an attack mode of "how dare we". I've worked in the food industry and fully understand when an item is 86'd. It happens yet there is a better way to handle it. Perhaps management and customer service is not the ideal career path for you. read more

We ordered the seafood platter, hush puppies as an appetizer and 2 side salads. Is it bad when your salad was the best thing out of your meal? Well change that - we never got the hush puppies and had already finished our meal so we decided to get the check and leave without them. I figured I wasn't missing much since the rest of the meal wasn't good. The catch of the day was not fresh, it was frozen mahi. After our walk and got back to the house we discussed where to go out for dinner. First we were going to try Pamlico Jacks but it was dark and no cars in the parking lot even though their Facebook page and Google said they were open. Then we thought lets go to Sugar Creek again and pulled into their parking lot but then I mentioned Strippers in Manteo and Don said let's go there so we did. We ate upstairs and enjoyed a delicious meal, my treat again. Don got a bowl of their oyster stew which is great and I even like it because of the Chimchurri sauce in it. That's what gives it a greenish look on the top. I got a bowl of their crab soup and they have changed the recipe and I don't like it that much now. It had very little crab and way to much onions in it. That's all I seemed to taste. Sugar Creek's was so much better! Next time I want soup there I'll try their caramelized onion soup because I like a good French Onion Soup or stick to the oyster stew. Our entrees were good. Don got the half portion of fried flounder with fries and a small amount of coleslaw. It was really good flounder and better than what I had at Sugar Creek on Sunday on the platter I had there. I decided on the Dockside special which was a speckled trout filet with citrus butter, pumpkin rice (different but tasty) and asparagus. It was yummy. Each meal was only $17 each. Not bad and ample servings. Don said there was no way he could eat a full portion. They had a special dessert tonight we chose to share. It was a Pumpkin Bourbon Cheesecake. Even Don thought it was pretty good and he's not a big fan of pumpkin flavored desserts. I bet Tim and Jessica would have liked it.
