The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: the front section is first-come first-served bar seating that offers the full menu. The back section, which would be ideal for families, holds about 30 tables, mostly booths, with the hostess stand. We chose to sit at the bar and had a great experience. We started with bruschetta topped with burrata cheese. I ordered the angel hair pasta in a white garlic butter, cream sauce with marinated chicken and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the special hamburger with Swiss cheese bacon, spinach and mayo with a side of fries. We ended with slices of the key lime pie that didn't disappoint! The food, service, staff and environment were exceptional! We overheard the Server mention that veterans receive complementary meals on Veterans Day, which speaks volumes about how this restaurant supports those who have served. It's housed in an old train car which is really cool (there's additional seating in a building attached to the car). The bar is nicely stocked with a lot of local beers and spirits. Just got back from visiting our family in Nags Head, OBX North Carolina, and had a spectacular experience at the Kill Devil Grill!!! Being that it's in season right now everything is very, very crowded. Reservations are not taken, so we went on the earlier side, and within 15-20 minutes we were seated! We ate here for lunch. When we arrived, there was a sign on the door that said the hostess and to check in for your meal is on the side entrance. So you do have to walk around the side to tell them how many is in your party. The place does not have a waiting area so highly recommend just sending one of your party in to put in the reservation and waiting for the table to be ready. Our server was Taylor. Taylor was standing on business with one of my meals didn't have tomato, bacon jam, and she was on top of it. Awesome person. They forgot the tomato bacon jam that was supposed to be on it. Kill Devil Grill is one of my favorite spots to eat in the Outerbanks. This place has been here a while now and is very popular with the locals. My favorite are their Chicken Wings. On today's adventure we found this place via Yelp. It's a little off the main road so we expected it to be less touristy but appears a lot of people know about this place which is a good sign. There were quite a few people here early around 430-5. We were greeted upon entering and advised it would be about 20 minutes for a table. The food was good and the service for the food was good. The food came out quickly and was cooked correctly. We were hungry and didn't waste time taking photos on this trip. IMO, this is the perfect low key beach restaurant. The food is great but what pushes it to the next level is the atmosphere especially the people working there. From the host that greeted and sat us, the servers, and the lady that sold us a T-shirt as we were leaving, we did not encounter a bad employee. It is rare to see a team at a restaurant work with this level of excellence. Johnny was the server for my table but we had others in our party that sat at a different table and I didn't catch that lady's name. They were both top notch; however, we had interactions with multiple people that were picking up finished plates and refilling drinks and answering questions. This is how a restaurant should be ran. We enjoyed lunch on a Friday afternoon. Our wait time ended up being shorted than anticipated so that was nice. Our waitress was kind and friendly. We started with the app sampler - tasty but I think a bit overpriced for what you get. We also enjoyed the fried chicken special, the southern chicken salad - the ranch it delicious and my son loved the kid's shrimp and fries (tartar sauce was great too)! Wow, I asked chat GPT for recs for family friendly delicious food at a reasonable price in KDH and we are shocked. Every meal from the kids menu, specials, and dessert were incredible. Flavors for everything were spot on. We had kids chicken tender meals, peel and eat shrimp, burger, fried shrimp, blackened wahoo on cheese grits, apple crisp, key lime pie (best I've had) and strawberry shortcake. Apple crisp and key lime were top tier. With one cocktail, four teas, and a sprite we paid just over 200$. Other reviews mentioned wait time, which was quoted at 45 minutes but only took 35.
