We had a wonderful brunch on Father's Day. There was a full house and we waited for about 20 minutes which was what we were quoted. We had a very friendly waitress who was attentive. The four of us all loved our meals and thought the ice cream was delicious. read more

For starters, S&J has a very short window for their hours to dine in and have breakfast. For the ice cream, I'm told they are opened til 4pm unless the weather's bad and business is slow. My meal started with an iced coffee to kickstart my day. I was on a tight schedule and saw on the board, a Hawaiian Omelet and went with that. Although I will admit that I was very focused on the word search...for kids. I think the misc. veggie toppings gave it, it's flair. What I enjoyed, was the generous amount of toast. On our annual trip to VT, we hopped over the border to NH and stopped by Stuart and John's sugar house. What a cute spot! It's extremely family friendly with solid breakfast options that will make anyone in your family happy. It took a little bit to be taken care of when we first walked in, but after that the service was great! We had blueberry pancakes with their fresh maple syrup that's warmed prior to bringing it out to the table! My husband got a fried chicken and fries special (they also have lunch food) and the fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. We were really excited to come to this family owned sugar house. They have a veneer of welcoming, but they weren't really welcoming. We were disappointed by the food - husbands eggs were not edible, server was indifferent, prices high and they charged to use a credit card (which required tipping on all charges). OMG, fresh hot pancakes (with various fruit toppings or chocolate chips), farm fresh eggs, coffee, fresh maple syrup and waffles. Cheap, farm fresh and good! Come here for the maple syrup not the meal. This place is only open seasonally (its mostly locals), closing for winter around the end of Nov. You can buy maple syrup products in amazing different containers, (ie. statue of liberty maple syrup, house shaped or with trees drawn on the bottle) in bulk. They also sell high grade, gallon sized maple for only $50. This is a great place for kids, they offer free coloring crayons, for $1.75 you can buy a coloring book about mapling trees and they have a special kids menu. read more

I ordered 2 eggs over medium with toast & 1 pancake on the side; my eggs were overcooked & my pancake was half the size it has been in years past. My friend ordered 2 pancakes with strawberries & she probably got a tablespoon of strawberries on her pancakes & her 2nd cup of coffee was cold (the server rectified the problem with the coffee). Didn't speak up breakfast because it was 10:30 am when we arrived & we were both hungry. We understand going up on your prices, but compromising the meal for smaller portions is unacceptable. Got recommended to try here so we took the drive out. Took over an hour to get our food as they took a call in order instead of doing in house guests first. The waitress was not happy about it either. She went back after 45 minutes and helped it get made. The quality wasn't great. Seems like a nice local restaurant with an ice cream area outside too. We are delighted to report that we returned to Stuart & John's restaurant and enjoyed a significantly improved experience over our last visit in 2013. We're indebted to Robyne, who sent us a note about changes and urged us to come back. We're glad we did. Briefly, while the friendly service remains, the quality of the food seems up, and there is a huge change for the better in the restaurant environment. Specifically, in 2013 we complained about a general lack of cleanliness and an overuse of cheap plastic/paper items. That is no longer the case; the restaurant was spotless on our visit, loved the new floors and very pleased with the non-paper cups and dishes. That means the focus now shifts back where it should: to the food, and we came away satisfied with the yummy pancakes, the sausage (which tasted homemade), the tasty corned beef and the nicely prepared eggs. We liked our server, though she got a bit overwhelmed by the crowds and was a little slow with coffee refills and the check. No matter; we like the changes here a lot, and we'll come back and invite others to do so. We make a yearly stop at Stuart & John's on Memorial Day weekend. We love the casual atmosphere and friendly staff. The ice cream sundaes are delicious, and the standard diner type food is great too. John explained that they use a machine that was intended to distill water to remove water content from the sugar syrup (reverse osmosis) BEFORE they start to boil it. This review is for the restaurant, which is open every Saturday and Sunday for breakfast and lunch. I had breakfast at Stuart & John's recently, which is open on the weekend. On my way to VT, I stopped in here mid Saturday morning and the place was busy, but not full. I was seated promptly as I entered the restaurant. The place is not that fancy, which has that country kitchen atmosphere. The dining area is in one open room with several tables, small gift shop with plenty of NH maple syrup for sale, and the kitchen area is visible from the dining area. The waitress offered me fresh brewed coffee as I sat down. The coffee ($2) served in a green ceramic mug, was very good. The cream on the table was from Market Basket. I was very hungry, so I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast ($12.99) which consisted of 2 Plain Pancakes, 2 eggs (I got scrambled), home fries, choice of meat (chose 2 sausage patties), and choice of toast (I chose raisin). All meals come with unlimited NH Maple Syrup! The food was served to me in under 10 minutes! The portion of food was ginormous, piled on! The thick fluffy pancakes were really good with the maple syrup & butter. The scrambled eggs were decent, soft lump pieces. The sausage patties were grilled and very soft (the kind cut from a Jimmy Dean sausage roll). The raisin toast was buttered. The home fries (fresh cut potato pieces) were grilled and browned. I also ordered 3 Slices of Texas French Toast ($5.99) for carryout, which came out hot & soft and I made sure I drenched French Toast in maple syrup. Overall, the food here was solid good typical country breakfast fare. Next time, I will try out the Fritters (corn and apple) with Maple Syrup! This was a long awaited visit. We were able to sit down as soon as we walked in at a table of our choosing. We went around 11am on a Saturday. We started with maple iced coffees - it was too sweet for me as I normally order sugarless coffee so they kindly replaced it for me with a regular coffee. On the other hand, my boyfriend loved it. The paper cups were not a good look, however. I was surprised our $3 iced coffees were served in them. I ordered the Southwest omelet which was phenomenal! The portions are huge so I didn't finish my dish - rare for me! My boyfriend ordered the ham and cheese omelet and he loved it too. We went all out since it was our "cheat day" so we tried the apple fritters. These were a let down. It was basically sweet bread with the option of pouring maple syrup on top. We debated on these or the banana nut pancakes which we'll definitely pick next time. It's definitely on the pricier side as our total for two iced coffees, the two omelets, and the fritters came to $37 and change. Service was great. The waitresses were all young girls who appeared to be in high school. I didn't feel rushed at all which is huge for me. I think given the prices the place could afford to renovate a bit. The tables and chairs remind me of the ones you find at a rental hall. They are an eye sore and I think some wooden tables and chairs would give it the country sugar house look. Took 2 young grandkids for lunch this Saturday and had the worst server ever. We requested she take the entire order when she came for the drink order ( the young kids have a hard time waiting) and she said she had to wait or she wouldn't remember what we ordered. She took forever to bring the food that was sitting under the warmer. She went to another table 6 times to chat and never came back to check on us once. Do I start with the dirty floors, the 115 things on the table or the uncomfortable chairs you have to wait forever in to get a meal you could have gone without? I'm sorry. Maybe I was expecting just a little more with the popularity of the maple syrup making in another part of the building. Maybe a nostalgic pretty dining room with antique NH and Vermont eclectic finds on shelves and walls. Maybe pretty lighting and REAL silverware. Maybe nice tables and chairs to go along with their farm views and flavor. Little things like that could go a long way to making this so much better than it was. But then again how can you serve fried food upon fried food from the freezer and be any good. This place is highly regarded by the locals and I tend to agree with them on this. I think some of the out of towners have their expectations a little out of joint. The omelette, banana pancakes and toast we had were cooked with good precision, fresh, and nothing was overly greasy. I'd say it as good or better in food Quality than most Denny's or Perkins I've been to. I disagree with a previous reviewer, The pancakes and omelettes were definitely several steps in Quality above any community bkfst I've been to (though the seating may not) Taking it for what it is, we were quiet pleased with our experience. Granted, the folding chairs aren't the most comfortable seating, and drinks came in paper cups. But I'd say these are minor things and part of the character of the sugar-house style of the place. I'd easily recommend it as a standard bkfst place if your in the area. The servers were friendly and seemed quite concerned that everything was to our liking. We actually got to meet and chat with Stuart & John, who are two of the the nicest, most down-to-earth guys you will ever meet. We stopped in around 5:00 on a sunny summer Saturday afternoon. Unlike in years past, they no longer do supper, apparently, but stop serving food at 3:00 (???). So we got ice cream cones....over $12.00 for two medium sized cones, including the extra $1.25 they charge if you want a waffle cone (and we only got that for one). Terrible value and quality for breakfast. I ordered eggs Benedict, which said in the description that it came with two "poached eggs". The eggs had clearly been microwaved and had the consistency of a soft sponge with fully cooked yolks. On top of that, the dish was over 12 dollars, so with that and one cup of coffee ($2) my total came out to $15.50 before tip. I have never had a lower quality breakfast at a restaurant and furthermore have never spent 15.50 on such a relatively simple breakfast for one. The coffee was hot in a nice ceramic mug though the additional Ice Tea was in a Togo cup it would be nice to get in a real glass. The service is very good servers are very attentive! The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is the tables and chairs are more like sitting is a elks hall than a restaurant. If you have not been here you should as for some good food! read more
