Poor Communication, Unprofessional Behavior, and Unnecessary Panic It took me over a year to get an appointment at this shop, as it seems to be the only local option for older sport bike repairs. The owner, Roland, is rough around the edges and lacks basic customer service skills -- but I initially gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming he was simply busy. I had my Kawasaki ZX9 towed in for front brake and caliper repairs. I specifically asked for a quote before any work began, but instead of calling me, I had to chase him for the numbers each time. The total ended up being $1,300, which I paid in person since I couldn't pick up the bike myself due to knee surgery. I arranged for a tow company to retrieve it, gave Roland their details, and provided the pickup time. After the tow company left with my bike, Roland called to say they had used a wrecker and "didn't know what they were doing," making it sound like my bike was likely damaged. This caused me unnecessary panic -- especially since he never called me before the bike was moved. When I asked why he didn't call earlier if he was so concerned, he got angry and hung up on me. When the bike arrived, it was in perfect condition. His alarming phone call was completely unwarranted, and the stress he caused was unnecessary. While I can't yet speak to the quality of his repair work, I can say that his attitude, lack of professionalism, and poor communication were enough for me to decide I won't return. In the future, I'll tow my bike to Orlando or Tampa, where I've received skilled service and respectful treatment. read more

These are two gents who live and breathe bikes and are willing to work on motorcycles older than 10 years -- when other shops say "We don't" -- and at a reasonable price. If you need to take your bike to a place where they know how to work on motorcycles instead of doing dealer McWork, this is the place. It is a father and son place so you may have to wait a bit but give them a shot especially if you have an older bike. Wish we had more independent shops like this one. I haven't had a lot of experiences with him, so here are my observations thus far; He's extremely bright and talented at his trade. I looked at a tool he fabricated for servicing fuel injected bikes. I sell a similar tool but the workmanship that went into it amazed me. We had engineers design & build ours. He just figured out what he needed it to do & made it happen. Even the welds were beautiful. He also comes off as an honest guy and my brother in law has ALWAYS been happy with the work he had done there. I'll update this as time & experience merits. Stopped in the shop after buying a bike. I spoke with Roland, who was kind enough to stop what he was doing, come out to the parking area, and look at it right then and there. He made some key recommendations. Although it took a couple of weeks to get on the schedule, it was well worth the wait. Some modifications had previously been made to the bike that weren't done properly (ones that I did not catch at time of purchase). He took the time to go through the bike thoroughly, and identified exactly what it needed. Although I couldn't afford to do all the work, he was cool and respectful about that, and did some essential service that got it running more safely, and really well. Roland and his son, Chuck, are real pros who are not only experts, but are honest and fair about the prices. I would definitely go back again to finish the work when I can. We are lucky to have a shop like theirs in Gainesville. They're a good father and son team. read more

I just had my second repair job done by Roland Stewart and his son. All I can say is that we're lucky to have these gentlemen in town. Also cool to know you've got a racing legend working on your motorcycle. And they do a fantastic job. Recently bought a dirtbike that I can use to chaperone my son on the mini bike I bought him for his birthday. Anyway, I knew the low priced bike I got was going need a lot of work. Took it to Mr. Stewart and he went through everything top to bottom, identified all the important issues and got them all fixed beautifully. What's excellent is that these guys are great welders, so they can fix things, and I'm sure fabricate custom work, too. So it seems like no promise to burger too small.
