Took our Yukon into these folks, ac wasn't blowing cold. Previously gmc/chevy in gainesville prediagnosed the repair and charged 800 for the wrong diagnoses.and wrong part to fix the ac. These guys Told us how long it would take gave a very descriptive diagnosis and two days later we are blowing cold air once again. The price was very fair for what they did new ac compressor flushed the system and new belts. This is a family-owned place, and I always love to support local and family places. I was recommended this place by a colleague and read all the reviews online. They are exceptional! They tell you exactly what you need and nothing more. Their pricing is very competitive in that I believe it was fair and service was good. They provide you with a quote and breakdown via text message that leads to a website with price of parts and labor for each thing. You could even text their number, which was great. The main reason why I am only giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of communication. When I called about my car that was towed there, I asked about turnaround and expectations. Now, when I got there, they had a lot of cars in their lot. I definitely did not mind that it took longer than expected. I didn't call or check-in every day but I did try to get updates bc I needed to know if I needed to get a rental. I wasn't given turnaround time and with the games and events happening in Gainesville it got too late for me to get a rental. I honestly felt like they were purposefully not answering me or answering me at the end of the work day. I know I could've just gotten it but one of team members I know was truly trying to save me money by telling me to hold off on getting a rental until I heard from them. I ended up not getting a rental which was difficult with work. I ended up asking for some leniency at work and would bike (which was scary on Archer), but it was fine. I am very grateful and would definitely come here again but now I just have no expectations with regard to their communication. read more

First of all - NOT a transmission shop - they farm out your tranny! Another auto mechanic shop putting fast $$ in front of warranty repair, this one really put me in a disgusted rage. After a $3800.00 transmission R & R visit that took 6 weeks, I paid for an oil change at the end of all of that. 4000 miles down the road, last weekend, I go to change the oil the night before a road trip and I find the drain plug rounded off. So I break out the vice grips, and it is so tight 2 neighbors couldn't get it either. I contact Dustin, and he advises that he can fit me in a full week later. He said there's no way he can help me out in time for the trip to Tennessee. What if I bring it in first thing, it will take 15 minutes to pop in a new plug? Nope, sorry about your luck. Now I pay another guy to fix Dustin's damage. That is exactly who this guy is. Do not expect any warranty loyalty from this joker. read more

Performance Transmission & AC is definitely my favorite mechanics shop in Gainesville. I've visited twice now and they were always very helpful. I heard about them from a friend the first time my car had a problem and went hoping not to get robbed. It turned out that they were extremely good at customer communication and were able to keep things at a very reasonable cost. They were friendly over the phone too and can always be easily reached. They were also able to work around my work schedule and let me drop off my car early. The whole experience was pleasant and fast. What amazing top notch service. I came in for a few routine things and to fix my a/c (it's about time I got it fixed) and the staff were really polite and personable. It was a busy day for them, and they told me it might take 1-2 hours to get it done and apologized for the wait. And here I'm thinking 'I've waited longer for less to be done'. Anyway since I live in the area I walked back home and left the car with them. They called me in maybe an hour and 15 minutes to let me know they were almost done and notified everything was fine. So I go to pick it up, the manager greets me, but now he has a noticeable limp. He explains he fell off a ladder and may have sprained his leg. Naturally I was concerned but he declared he would be okay for the rest of the shift. He then apologized that the crew forgot to rotate the tires, so I was given a discount while I waited for a tire rotation (10 minutes at most). I'd like to highlight this. The manager was more concerned about my car and customer satisfaction than anything else and should be recognized for his commitment to his job. The car was vacuumed, loose change was piled neatly on the passenger seat, and best of all they werent pushy about sales. You have car issues? Hit these guys up. read more

I came in for an idling problem on my '98 Buick Century but also asked them to look over everything. Besides what I came in for, it turned out a caliper was sticking, which is a problem I've had before on this car. They gave me a reasonable quote and didn't BS me throughout the whole process. I spoke to Dustin and Artie through the whole thing and both were very professional and good at communicating with customers. I also had an axle seal leak, but I wasn't pressured to get it fixed then (the same goes for the brakes, but I chose to get that fixed). I called around to other highly rated shops in town, but the best quote I got to get new calipers, new pads, and to resurface the rotors was the original quote at Performance Transmission. Tuffy's offered to undercut anyone by 10%, but they were way too aggressive about getting my business over the phone, and I had the feeling they were going to rip me off when I got in there. They couldn't pin down the idling problem unfortunately, but that's the nature of intermittent problems. As I was getting my car back, Dustin offered to do a followup for free if the idling problem got more frequent or severe. Both my roommate and I have come in for service over the last couple of months, and each of us have got our cars back quickly without any shady business. I'd recommend Performance Transmission as a great straightforward auto repair place. read more

Thrilled with Performance Transmissions. I took my car in terrified that it was going to cost a ton of money to fix my transmission problems. Turns out it was a manufacturer defect in the radiator. He patched my car up and is sending me back to the place where my radiator is under warranty to have it replaced. Once that's done, he wants to see the car back at no charge to make sure that the leak hasn't returned. This work all came in for $60 under the $250 estimate. My daughters 10 year old 102,000 mile Honda Civic needed an A/C recharge and was running rough. I had bounced from dealer to "so-called Honda experts" a couple of times for minor items. I decided to give Performance a call and I am glad I did! I brought the car at the appointed time. They set my time expectations and what they were going to do as far as the diagnosis, etc....They looked at the A/C and knew immediately what was the most logical fix and they took care of it expertly and explained the details of the work right on the receipt/work order. What I did NOT know was they have expertise in a variety of car makes, so they can basically perform all the work a car needs at a lower than dealer price for repairs. They do not "ONLY" perform transmission and A/C repairs, but ALL repairs that may be needed. Clean, easy to get to and very friendly, as it is family owned as a Gainesville founded business. Bottom line, it's been a couple of weeks now, the car's AC is cold and the rough idling has been repaired. The daughter is really glad, as they also gave me advice as far as a "paint defect" on Honda's and it looks like Honda America will be reviewing the paint defect and pictures for possible warranty work! read more

He will usually be responsive and conciliatory to complaints but my advice is watch him like a hawk, inspect EVERYTHING yourself and be ready to take it back to him asap. I recently moved to Gainesville about a year ago and when searching for a local Gainesville mechanic, I was lost. Its hard to find guys that do a good, honest job in a place you haven't been. When I saw that their Yelp review was just 1 star, I knew I had to give them some much-deserved love. A bit about me: I love working on my car myself. But sometimes there are issues that I can't work out myself that often take specialized tools and/or lots of time. Sometimes I'm just lazy and don't want to get oil running down my armpit. Living in an apartment with no garage or carport doesn't allow for too many car projects. For these car issues, I go to Performance Transmission. It helps to know what you want or all the symptoms of an issue before you visit them. They don't try to upsell services, just give early warnings like brake pads starting wear down. I appreciate that because then I can think and make a decision later on with no pressure. Maybe even purchase parts before I need them. Their labor rates are very competitive. Artie and Dustin are very friendly and always listen to my questions and concerns. They're very knowledgeable and professional. I like to use certain parts and fluids that I purchase beforehand and they don't charge for parts, just labor. And any fluids they don't use, they return to me. They're always willing to give an estimate as best they can over the phone and in person. Its also nice that they're located close to bus stops and apartments so when I need to drop off the car, its easy to hop onto a bus or walk over to a friend's place. They also have a friendly dog roaming inside. If you're a new Gainesville resident (as so many students are) and you're looking for an honest mechanic, check out Performance Transmission.
