As an out-of-town visitor, I needed a hair product in a travel-size version for my flight back home. I happened to find this store while shopping at the Goodwill next door (which, by the way, is a must-visit if you're in the area). From the moment I walked into STAR BEAUTY SUPPLY, I was met with pure rudeness and an unsettling undertone of discrimination. The owner/manager barely acknowledged me and was dismissive when I asked about a specific product, instead showing me items I had no interest in. What really disturbed me was how he treated me regarding a small bag from my purchase next door. He insisted I couldn't carry it while shopping, which I understood, so I offered to hand it to him. Instead of placing it in a secure spot, he gestured for me to put it on the floor, as if it were trash. When I suggested placing it behind the counter instead, he flatly refused and insisted that it stay on the floor. I declined. Despite the poor treatment, I managed to find the travel-size product I needed, paid for it, and attempted to leave. While I was checking my receipt outside, I took a picture of the store for reference. That's when the situation escalated--the owner actually came outside, taunted me, followed me, and even threatened to call the police! I calmly told him to go ahead since I had done nothing wrong--no threats, no disturbance, just a paying customer subjected to blatant disrespect. This is not how a business should treat its customers, especially with the kind of hostility I experienced. A quick glance at their online reviews will tell you that I'm not alone in this. If you are a person of color or simply value respectful customer service, I strongly urge you to take your business elsewhere. Told her I'd be there in the morning because they were closing in 10 mins. The next day I show up and upon walking in realize the place is pretty small. And packed full of stuff. From typical wigs to clothing and jewelry. The kind lady, I'm assuming it's the same lady, acknowledged me and she directed me respectfully. I wasn't able to find what I came for but am glad I stopped in. They had some basic nail supplies, in case ever needed last minute, and probably cheaper than Sally's so that was good to know.

There were several employees stocking shelves who neither moved to accommodate me wiggling my cart through the narrow, choked aisles, and others yet who didn't make eye contact nor offer a greeting. The only staff who acknowledged me was the nice older gal who rang me up, the high point of my stop here, not just because it meant that I was leaving, but she was genuinely friendly. There was fast-food trash on many of the shelves, crumpled wrappers from Bojangles, gas station coffee cups etc.. I found it ironic that there was one aisle with trash cans (for sale) flopped around it, yet there was actual trash all around the store. The layout is clumsy, the customer service was next to non-existent. I think I'll stick to the dollar store down at Hamilton Mill. Their check-out may be slower, but it's easier to navigate, cleaner, and more helpful.

When I asked to have my balloons filled, the store employee (female, white, glasses) told me in a snarky tone that she could only fill 10-12 of the balloons from my package. I asked if I could receive a discount for the remaining balloons she refused to fill, since there were no posted restrictions on the sign and my request (about 20 small 6-inch balloons) was hardly unreasonable. She became condescending and unprofessional; especially when other customers entered the store. She made a point of loudly saying she "couldn't help them" because she was "too busy filling too many balloons." She even commented to her coworker that she'd been "blowing up balloons all day," and when asked how many were left, said sarcastically, "too many," right in front of me. This was embarrassing, unnecessary, and incredibly unprofessional. Management or corporate needs to provide training on basic customer interaction and respect. I was there less than 20 minutes and left feeling belittled for simply asking for what was advertised. I will not be returning.Amazon or another retailer will gladly take my business.
