5 stars!! This place is EXCEPTIONALLY exquisite! Though the place is hard to find (due to the fact that it's behind a former bookstore), the exceptional service is greatly compensated. Upon coming in, you are greeted with either coffee, tea, or water of your choice. Afterwards, a very nice employee washes and massages your scalp and hair. Needless to say, it was one of the best head massages I've ever had in a salon, haha. Then, the hairstyle asks what haircut you like, and he makes sure to understand what desired look you want. During the time the person cuts your hair, you're surrounded by a chic atmosphere, a lovely dog, and Great music while you sip your drink and let the hair stylist do magic. It takes the hair salon worker around an hour, more or less, making sure that the little details are covered and fitted for your desired look. When he/she is finished, they rinse your hair one more time to get all of the excess hair particles out of your scalp. The final touches are then added after your rinse. I highly recommend this place. Mr. Chiang was very friendly, detail-oriented, and saved me from a very ugly hairstyle. If your hair needs to be in a certain way, he teaches you step by step on how to do it. Though the whole journey costed $45, it was money well spent. This review is for guys. I have been coming here for a few months, and I must say this is the best hair salon I have experienced in SGV. I get a pretty simple fauxhawk, so difficulty/skills-wise it's not very indicative of what Aaron my hairdresser is capable of. But watching him cut hair is a pretty mesmerizing experience, he definitely has a chair-side manner that I personally enjoy. Oh if you are awkward like me, you might like to know that Aaron doesn't talk much unless you want him to, so the lack of awkward small talk is a huge plus in my book. The quality is consistently excellent and I have yet to have a haircut here that I don't like or that I don't compliments for. I had a friend send me a picture of her gorgeous new haircut from another place and thought I should do the same and update my do since it was getting boring. I had called Studio 79 after perusing Yelp and being impressed by the rave reviews and how trendy their customer pics looked. They were absolutely amazing, I called in at 2:05 and asked if it's possible to just get my hair cut before 3pm and Jerry slotted me in for 2:30. I got there at 2:31 and was warmly welcomed. I had just told him I am growing out my hair and would like to style it while it's growing out since it looks drab . Jerry worked with me and discussed options of styles and things to do with my hair . I love how much attention to detail he put in and how he discussed ways for me to work with my hair at home to continue which fewer hairdressers do than you would think. Had my haircut by Michelle who is the newest addition to this salon. She joined about a month ago and she's great. She is meticulous when cutting and styling your hair. She pays attention to the client and the style they want. I have naturally curly Asian hair with varying levels of curl and frizz; I showed her a pic of Thandie Newton and the cut came out beautifully! I completely recommend her. The salon itself is beautifully styled and everyone is welcoming and nice. Marisa, who washed my hair, was also really gentle and thorough. The haircut price includes a deep conditioning treatment. I usually go to J's Hair Studio and I've been going there for a few years now, but when I tried to make an appointment, they informed me that my stylist went back to Japan and it was booked for the next month. I brought my friend along with me because she needed to get a haircut too. We both had appointments for Aaron, and I have to say that he did a GREAT job on both of our hair! I didn't think I would be able to trust anyone else with my hair but Aaron changed my mind. He's going to be my permanent hair stylist for a while! :) Aaron is an AWESOME hair stylist and he gives tips about how to style your own hair and what he thinks would be good for us. Jerry gave my boyfriend a wonderful hair cut. He's the type of guy who truly loves his work and it really shows. He'll spend extra time just to make sure that your haircut is absolutely perfect and he didn't mind my answering my questions about the new hairstyle my bf was trying out. After reading all the yelp reviews, I decided to try this place out and requested Aaron as most people suggested. They were very welcoming. Especially Jesse, the assistant. I went in without a style in mind and had no picture. I just asked Aaron what he suggested, and he kind of asked a few basic questions. He then started cutting away. He didn't talk much though, not sure if he was just concentrating or he just didn't like to speak English (since it's not his native tongue). Talking wasn't very important though because he gave me an amazing treatment and style. I'm very satisfied with how it turned out. This review is long overdue. I've been coming here for a couple years now, and I'd have to say my hair cuts with Aaron have always been nothing but the best every single time; however, every time I want to change up my look with a different color, it's a hit or miss. However, I do feel the need to say that Aaron goes above and beyond when it comes to customer satisfaction. He always makes an effort to correct whatever it is that I'm not satisfied with -- he really takes pride in his work, and this is important. Nowadays, I stay with the mocha shades, so no problems there. I just hate it when my hair comes out orange-y, and I find that it's a very common issue with dark asian hair. He has said that, really, only option is to bleach it, but in Aaron's defense, I've always been against that so there's really nothing he can do about it. I don't know squat about the science behind hair coloring. Moving on, Aaron does a fantastic job explaining his process, and his consultations are often thorough. Regarding their shampooing, Marisa does a great job. She left for a while, but now she's back! I seriously consider taking a nap during her washes. It's thorough, and there's always a treatment included. I can't remember what the treatment is for...but it makes my hair smell super clean and fresh. Overall, she's my favorite shampooist compared to all other hair salons that I've been to. Also, they offer Nespresso and mini Kirkland waters. And did I mention that they have the most comfortable waiting area ever? I'm actually wondering where they got them now. I could do some light evening reading in one of these. read more

I've been wanting the A-line bob for a few years now, but was always so scared to! I was too attached to my long hair. I finally said f*** it, hair grows and I need a change! My cousin recommended Aaron and I'd rather invest in my hair and have it done exactly how I want, especially since I'll be stuck with it for the next year. Although it was the most expensive haircut I've ever had, it was also the most different and satisfying. I was early for my appointment, and Aaron was still working on a client, so I sat down and made small conversation with another stylist that was chilling. I was offered some water as well. Everyone was generally welcoming and friendly! Then this huge German Shepard walks in from the back room. How often do you see that at a salon?! I LOVE dogs so I didn't mind it roaming around at all! It was so well-behaved and sweet. I began my appointment exactly on time, and once I told Aaron I wanted to chop my hair off, he literally took his scissors and cut all 12 inches off before getting my hair washed. A little scary, and to be honest I was a bit skeptical. I had my hair washed by one of the ladies, and holy scalp massage! She washed my hair TWICE and did a very relaxing scalp massage both times! I also had a conditioning treatment complete with, yes, a final head rub (hehehe). Loved it. Then back to the chair I went, and Aaron worked quickly at first, and it worried me a little, because a previous hairdresser worked the same way and left me with choppy unblended layers. But Aaron is just that good to work that quickly, but at the end, he really took his time to make sure the final product was perfect and even. I appreciated the fact that he also took the time to explain how to style blow dry and style my hair and his process of cutting. He literally made me look in the mirror several times to tell him if anything needed fixing, AND that if in a week it needs a trim, I should just call him and come in so he can fix it! My hair is so different but I love it! I ended up paying $65 plus tip. But with a scalp massage, conditioning treatment, and a hairdresser that really does cater to your needs, that's a fair price to pay if you want to treat yourself to a great haircut. Believe it or not, I've been going to different salons for over a decade. Studio 79 is the first salon I've been to more than once & for one reason: Jerry. Jerry is hands down the best stylist I've had & will continue to go to. Take it from someone who has been going to different salons since I was 13: don't always go for the salon that gives the cheapest pricing. Cheap pricing compromises quality--at least the ones I've experienced. You might walk in dreadful of your current hair situation, but you will walk out loving your hair like you've never loved it before...because of Jerry. We tried this place out of luck, we were driving around Rowland Heights searching for a salon that takes walk-ins. This showed up first on our yelp list, and we decided to give it a try. Yoshi was my stylist, and I love the work he did. I was very reluctant trying new hairdressers, especially I haven't find one I really like since moving from Boston a year ago. The first few I tried messed up my hair. Gave me lots of layers, which I dislike. I had so much trouble styling it later on, and was not eager to cut my hair again. I have no complaints about Yoshi, except he REALLY take his time cutting my hair. Which is a good thing by the way. He doesn't chit chat like other stylist, and was very focused on cutting my hair. I told him I like my style clean and do not like layers, so he cleaned up all those layers and lightened the weight. I wanted to grow my hair long, so I asked him not to cut it short. He only trimmed off those that are dry and kept the length. At the end, he asked me how I want to style it, I said "however you like it", and he said "okay, I'll style your hair but you promise me you have to go out and have fun tonight". What a coincidence, because it was my birthday and I did plan to go out and celebrate. I went back again to Yoshi to give it a second try almost 2 months later, and this time I decided to cut it short. The result is needless to say satisfying. Although it is a bit pricy, but I really enjoy the service. Of course, the atmosphere in the salon is great. I think I have found my salon and my stylist. read more

I usually try to get haircuts for as cheap as possible, like in Chinatown, but this time I decided to try something a little more fancy. I found Studio 79 through Yelp, and booked an appointment with Arron because of the reviews. I came in wanting to color my hair but without any clear ideas, but he took the time to help talk about different options with me. He ended up relayering my hair and doing a slightly lighter color on me, just in time for the warmer seasons. He also did a treatment after the coloring to prevent damage, I don't know if that's a common practice... I'm super happy about the result, my hair is so easy to style, or I can just leave it as it is. I never had much interest in curling or straightening my hair before but after he taught me a few tips I can't wait to try them out. The coloring was 95 and the cut was 60 (four times what I usually pay) but I'd still say it was worth it :) read more
