I love Studio 99. Me'Lissa is amazing and I have such a respect for her. When I first went to Me'Lissa I had a very important dinner to go to later that night. Now I called her on Friday, the day before and explained my situation. You see the person who did my hair the week prior had me walk out the door looking ridiculous. There was no way I was going to this dinner looking ridiculous. Me'Lissa was able to get me in the day in the afternoon. I took my clothes to change in the shop thinking I would be there for hours. To my surprise, she had me in the chair, old hair out new style, which I loved, in and out the door in two hours. I had so much time to spare that I went home and took a nap. The day of my appointment, we went to the beauty supply store together and she helped me pick out my hair for extensions. Great location in Oakland!! The salon is very classy and cozy!!! The colors on the walls are relaxing. When I first walked in, both of the ladies were extremely friendly!!! Once we met it was like we had known each other for Years. I bought hair that was really bad and needed to get my hair done too. She looked at me and said u want to get ur hair done too. Like a little kid I was like Yes...then and there I scheduled for my appointment 2weeks later. Not to mention her salon is too cute and her other clients are nice too it's was such a pleasant experience. I'm sooo happy with the work that Melissa did. She is a weaving queen. Melissa is super professional, welcoming and super duper fast! I went for many years carrying a lack of trust for stylists. Now my trust is redeemed. I have thick hair and while most braiding salons would complain and take over 4 hours to do a weave, Melissa killed it in an hour. First off, just want to say that Melissa is A+ awesome!!! Started coming to her about a year and a half ago..... I was tired of beauticians always charging you waaaaaaaaaay too much for weaves that rarely lasted, & on top of that fishing out of the customers outrageous tips that they thought they "deserved" ($200+ whatever magic number she conjured up for a tip). Or beauticians saying that they got you, and then when the weave is done it's NOT at all to your liking. SMH you should NEVER beg for a tip- if your work is good enough then you shouldn't have to ask for one- not gonna name no names, but there are ALOT of beauticians out there that do that, especially in the 415 area-.- Melissa will always be on point with her craft. I don't mind paying the $125 and then some because her work is flawless. I never leave unsatisfied. It even got to the point to where I wait until I get back up to the bay to get my hair done- I dont trust no other hands except hers, true client right here lol. Ever since I moved from the bay to LA to finish my studies, Ive never went to any other hairdresser to get my weave done (except for braids, but that's all). I'd rather wait for exceptional work, even if it takes weeks, months. She is never rude, very professional, and keeps it 100%. And to all of you out there trying to slander her name and make her look bad- shame on all of you. Stop hating on someone because she does her job right with excellence. If anything y'all should be congratulating her for successes and wish her nothing less but the best. Then maybe some of you will start getting better business. Karma is definitely a b*tch. It saddens me to see our sisters not wanting to see the other succeed, just because your business isn't doing so hot, so instead, we make up lies and b.s about the other to make ourselves look good. This is only my 2nd review on yelp but I often use it when selecting a business to patronize. Studio 99 / Melissa has renewed my faith in small business. As soon as I walked in Sharae (braid technician/stylist) greeted me with a warm smile and welcomed me to the salon. I was impressed with the decor and cleanliness of the salon. Melissa got right to work and completed my style in 1 1/2 hours. WOW!!!! Both ladies are really sweet and we laughed and talked the entire time. I found studio 99 on yelp and of course read all of the reviews. I decided to give Melissa a call since I'm new to the area and had no clue who was going to do my hair. I purchased hair from Melissa, Peruvian body wave and a lace closure, I absolutely love the hair!! The part in the closure was a little dark, I guess because the knots weren't bleached but I just put some makeup concealer on the part to make it look kind of natural, which I learned on youtube. The hair is super soft and tangle free. But anyways, when I went to get my hair done Melissa's assistant, Kim, was there to start me off and I was a little nerves thinking she was going to do my entire head. But she just braided it and Melissa showed up and sewed the weave in. Melissa is super sweet and friendly and did a quick but amazing job. I love my hair, the only thing is when I got home I noticed hair was cut from my closure so I have a few short hair strings :( and I also left the remaining of my hair that wasn't used at the shop. However, I will be returning.. great hair, great job, great price! read more

I found Melissa on Craigslist, I called and sopke to her, told her what I wanted & liked, went through all her pictures, finally I came in to do my weave, in about an hour and a half I was done, she did just what I wanted, about a week into it one of my tracks came lose (I have really fine, straight hair) and the thread from another track was coming off too, I called her and she said she would fix it, no cost, no worries! I plan to come back to her, she charges a bit more than what I am used to paying (still not expensive though) but because I am happy with her work, I am willing to pay more. read more

Sharae has braided my 6 year olds daughter hair about 3 times. my daughter absolutely loves her hair every time she leaves the salon. Melissa is very TALENTED. Melissa takes her time every time I go to get my hair done and is very professional. I always come in a get a partial sewn in. I have been coming to Melissa for almost two years now. My hair is past my shoulder now. Before I had to cut my hair because it had been chemically over processed. My hair was as short as Rhianna short bob. I wasn't confident with the length of my own hair. Melissa gets me in and out. She washes, conditions, and braids your hair. My hair has found its soulmate...and her name is Melissa! I absolutley love this woman! She is talented, quick and her work is simply amazing! I found her on CL and she responded to me even though I texted her late at night. She was able to get me in the same day and when I arrived there she was ready, shop clean and smile on her face.
