Happened upon Studio Tu Pelo the other day. Been dying for a neighborhood place to go to and I couldn't be more pleased. What a find! I went in as a walk-in client, and although they seem to thrive on regulars, they were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Considering it was a Friday they had a few clients in chairs... I had to wait a bit, but it was well worth it. I got my color done by Maggie and she did exactly what I wanted without fuss. She was multi-tasking with other clients but I never felt forgotten. She checked on me regularly to bring magazines or anything else. I got my hair washed by Eduardo. The neck and head massage were much appreciated after a long work week. My haircut was done by a gentleman who was a pro. I'm sorry I didn't catch his name. And when styling they only had to ask a few questions and immediately concocted a fun boisterous hairdo with soft curls. They use stellar products and so even though my hair doesn't like to hold curl, it did so all night long, at the club. Truly couldn't be happier. My hair is healthy and shiny and now I have a spot within walking distance to go to get styled when I'm off for a night on the town. STOKED. P.S. My male friend got his hair done and he's super picky. They use straight edge raisers (like he likes) and he was very impressed with their skills. read more

After reading such wonderful reviews online and hearing the recommendations from locals in our neighborhood, I was excited to book an appointment at the salon but it is with great sadness that I am now having to write a poor review. On Sunday 8/2/15 my friend and I arrived at Studio Tu Pelo for our 2:30pm appointment and were greeted with a locked door and dark salon. We waited 20 minutes past the time of the appointment and called several times but it was clear that no one was showing up. The following day the studio was closed and on Tuesday when they were open again, my friend nor I received any call or explanation. Today (4 days later) I called and stated I wanted to speak to the manager to make a formal complaint. Luis answered the phone and was extremely rude to me and hung up on me TWICE. This blatant unprofessional disregard for a customer is truly upsetting. I was prepared to pay the money for a cut and color, as was my friend. We are both moms who had to arrange for babysitters specifically so we could come get our hair done. Even after being "stood up" for the appointment I had hoped someone might call us to apologize and I would have still considered rebooking. However, after my treatment on the phone I am absolutely appalled at this salon's customer service. As a long-time member of the community I will definitely be giving my feedback to others in our area and warning my neighbors to steer clear of this place. read more

I started going to Studio Tu Pelo for a couple of years now and they deserve the highest rating available, beginning with the appointment schedule which is very accurate... you just get there and Eduardo (one of the owners) is always very welcoming and pleasant.... they will sit you, offer you magazines, etc.. Luis( owner also) is awesome, his work is excellent, i have ethnic wavy frizzy hair and i usually get it straighten out with him and its gorgeous, silky, straight hair...and it lasts me 4 or 5 days or until my next shampoo... oh that needs to be mentioned to because Eduardo and Meghan give great massages, and u can forget all your worries on that 10 min head and neck massage... I strongly recommend to anybody to go, you will leave happy, beautiful and grateful, its money well spent... read more

I lived upstairs from this place when it first opened forever ago. I have never let anyone else cut my hair for at least the past 15 years. Luis is fantastic and whoever else happens to be working at the time is always a joy too. Everyone I ever brought here has fell in love and become a regular as well. Definitely an old school type gem and places like this almost don't exist anymore. You will love the scalp massage included with every cut or shampoo. read more

Both Luis and Eduardo are great stylists which is about the only reason I've kept coming back to them.. But it's been twice now where I've had appointments scheduled on a Saturday and most recently on a Sunday both times during the times they say they're open online and absolutely no one was there!!! The first time I waited an hour and a half. I told Luis I needed an early appointment because it was my birthday and had people coming over. As usual he said ok no problem. I showed up that Saturday and he didn't show up till almost 12. My appointment was at 10:30. He did a great job but he definitely rushed it and was the only one working and there was a line of ladies waiting too! This past Sunday I made an appointment for 10 am, Luis again said no problem I show up at 10 and no one was there.. I know I'm stupid but I waited THREE hours!!!! I had to leave..I left voicemails and still no one has called me back to apologize. It seems like they only care about their friends that come in to get haircuts and I'm sure their friends are the ones leaving great reviews..like I said their great stylists but terrible business owners! Their signs outside say walks in welcome but I have a hard time believing that since no one is ever there! I've gone on a Thursday at 5 and no one was there. They need to figure out their priorities. I initially went in to get a Paul Mitchell Keratin Deep Conditioning. Eduardo did this for me and he pretttty much blew my mind. He gave me the sweetest wash, massage, internal meltdown ever. And then after, my hair felt and looked amazing. I have chemically straightened hair and this just keeps it retained and shiny for a month. He told me to come back for a trim from Meggie. I did. She's amazing! They're both extremely personable, hilarious, understanding and most important HONEST. They're not gonna push things on you or cut your hair all jacked up to their own standards and disregard your own. My dusting was perfect...which is hard to come by because most stylist seem to lack dusting technique to grow hair and more of the whole CHOPPING technique. Meggie was awesome and ON TOP OF ALL THIS...I was feeling fun and we did a 50's pinup up do. YES SHE CAN DO PIN UP HAIR AND TAKES PRIDE IN IT!! All in all, AWESOME. Thanks guys!!! read more

they give me a great haircut every time i go in, and only once out of 5 visits was there a even a wait. they are $10 cheaper than Urban Joe's on division and in my opinion they do a better job. the icing on the cake is the killer head and neck massage received during the shampoo and conditioning. read more

Today was my second visit to this salon. I have very thick and wavy hair that many stylists have been unable to cut the way that's needed and i have always been delighted with the hair cuts I have received from Luis. Eduardo is a color genius. I'm a natural blonde who has had red hair for a number is years, and have been striving for a very specific color, and finally i found it with him. The first time he dyed my hair after a bad color job, and afterwards I have literally been approached over two dozen times when I have been running errands asking where I got my hair done, and telling me my hair is absolutely stunning. I also work in the healthcare industry and cannot count how many times patients have commented on how beautiful my color is. I also have severe dermititis on my scalp, and have no choice but to use medicated shampoos often, and the color held beautifully for months without fading. This had never happened for me before. In addition they are exceptionally kind and wonderful people. They also have an adorable dog named Coco who keeps you company while waiting for your hair to process. Their prices are extremely fair, and my hair for cut and color takes a good three hours minimum. They have never tried to capitalize on the amount of time they have to spend with me, which is a problem I have faced many times in the past. They also do not try to upsell products or services like some salons do, that can be uncomfortable at times. I also do not live nor work in their area, but they are well worth the commute. Lastly, I would like to say I specifically created a yelp account to give them this review. In my opinion, if you do not try this salon you are a fool, they are amazing, and I am definitely a dedicated client at this point. read more
