Fortuna Bottega is one of my favorite spots in Seattle. You can tell every sandwich is crafted with high quality ingredients, and you're really getting a bang for your buck with how packed these sandwihces are. The bread is delicious and doesn't get soggy or weighed down by the sauces or toppings, and you really can't go wrong with any of the menu items. The line can be long (rightfully so), but it moves very fast. The staff are efficient and really friendly. The sandwich shop is conveniently located in the heart of Phinney Ridge, a charming neighborhood with plenty of street parking and perfect for a stroll on a beautiful Seattle day. Some people may disagree, but I would argue that simply making it to Fortuna Bottega during their condensed business (weekday) hours is accomplishment. The interior reminds me of a new york style deli - while there is some seating available (I'd say around 10 spots), it's mostly a "grab and go eat elsewhere" like, say, the south end of greenlake. I ended up coming here during their expanded weekend hours - around 12pm on a Saturday - and was greeted to a large line of ~15 people. I was excited to try their "Bottega" sandwich however they were not longer making it so I settled on a Bambino and Gran Sasso sandwich. I enjoyed the bambino. The combination of toppings with the mortadella worked well within their homemade bread (which I thought was the best part for sure). The Gran Sasso - my girlfriend said it was "OK", mostly due to the huge chunks of artichoke hearts (with stems) that were not her favorite. I could see myself coming back here if friends/family wanted to try. At ~$20 a sandwich it is pricey but the ingredients are high quality and the service is friendly. read more

We ordered the Bambino and Fortuna. Both were very good. The bread is super fresh and soft, the meat is delicious and perfectly salty, and the cheese inside the sandwich was delicious! It truly melts in your mouth. It is a reasonably priced sandwich, around $18 to $20 per sandwich. We got our sandwiches in less than 10 minutes on a weekend! Super quick! After hearing a lot about Fortuna, I was excited to try them. If there's a line it moves relatively quickly and staff were super friendly. They were even able to give me a sample of the different cheeses as I wasn't sure if the gorgonzola would be super funky. I got the bambino sandwich and it was good. Finally, came by to try out the sandwich at Fortuna Bollega and it wasn't that busy as I've seen it in the past. I ordered the Bambino with some arrugla and garlic balsamic, coke and chips and after tip, taxes and such I ran a $18.50 sandwich up to be $39.80 reminding me of going to the Metropolitan Grill. Fortuna Bollega has an indoor counter and then what looks like a garage out back is some picnic tables. I hung out in the picnic area as the indoor area was packed. I know Seattle is getting pricey, but I'm going to be more careful with my order next time as around $30 seems the minimum for lunch now round town. Man, what an establishment. We stopped for lunch right at opening and while waiting in line someone brought out samples of bread which was cool. Every single person working today that we had interactions with seemed to be genuinely happy to be there. Loved the set up for entry and exit, no confusion as you're quickly served your sandwich. We chose to sit down at a table to stuff our face real quick and while doing so, a staff member came out to ask us how we are enjoying our meal and for some quick conversation. It was just such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Took a Thursday off a few weeks ago one of goals of my friends and I was visiting Fortuna. We were actually first in line. Loved how while you're waiting they give you a sample of their bread hot and toasted. Menus are online also posted on the window and near where you order to make it easy to decide. We already knew we were going to try the popular, Bambino - Mortadella, Stracciatella Cheese, Olive Oil, Pistachio. We probably would've tried the Bottega but one of my friends medically can't handle spice on we went the Gran Sasso-Finnociona, Pecorino Romano, Artichoke, Pesto Fortuna, Arugula. There were three of us and we split the two sandwiches which was just right. There is an out door space to sit with plenty of of picnic tables that are and fully covered area to keep you dry. Napkins and self serve water along with plastic cutlery if needed are also available out there. Service was excellent from the one of the owner's mom handing out the samples, as soon as you entered the space. Also appreciate how they ask if it's ok to snap a pic of the people standing in line. Chef Kirin came out and asked how things were which was a nice touch. Our favorite if the two was the Gran Sasso. I like Finnociona we felt that sandwich had more flavor and texture. We loved the bread to ingredients ratio. The artichokes they use are so good and still firm not mushy which they can often be when marinated. I was at Makeda and Mingus ariund the corner and heard great things about the Caprese and Tonno so looking forward to checking off the rest of the menu one day. I had been eyeing Fortuna Bottega as I frequent driving to/from via Greenwood Avenue N. It turned out their grand opening was the same day I landed at SeaTac from Maui (9/3/25). My stupid mistake was driving past (no line) to head home to drop off the luggage and unwind briefly. When I returned, it was fun times circling for street parking and standing in that long line. Quite the exterior and interior transformation. There's limited indoor counter seating, but there's also covered outdoor seating. On this day, it looked like takeout was the favored choice. I ended up buying one each, Bambino (mortadella) and Bottega (proscuitto). These were eaten for work lunches a day and two days after, respectively. They held up pretty well in the fridge. Great counter staff and the kitchen crew were slammed that day and coming up on a month later. The lines and menu items selling out, had the owners scale back their business hours. Pro tip: save up your dollars and show up before or close to opening. Love the similar shop in Pioneer Square, want to visit another shop up in Vancouver, BC. Fortuna Bottega is just Goldilocks just right and closer to home in Shoreline! Now if I could just strategize getting back in line. read more

How I heard of this place: I walk by this spot daily. There was a lot of neighborhood speculation as to what would come in when the dry-cleaner left. We were so excited to see an Italian Sandwich Shop was on it's way; and eagerly anticipated its opening for the past few months, as we watched the signs go up, barquettes added, flower hangings, painting, and a courtyard/patio coming together. Type of cuisine: Italian sandwiches with fresh baked bread and delicious, imported meats. Ambiance: Quaint and cozy, with navy and orange coloring. The inside space is small, containing the open kitchen, with the opposite half offering bar seating for a sit-down lunch. Music is classy and perfect, with songs among my mother and father's favorites, and nostalgically wonderful. The patio is lovely, with a huge peacock mural on one wall, wooden picnic tables and fresh flowers everywhere. What I ordered: On this, our first visit, we selected: Bambino ($18), Caprese ($15), and Tonno ($19) with two bags of kettle style potato chips ($2 each), two cans of root beer ($2 each) and a 16-oz bottle of Pellegrino ($2). What I loved: I love the friendliest owners and staff to come into Phinneywood. They have waved at and welcomed us since they began renovations and continue to wow us with their kind hearts and thoughtfulness. Their opening, yesterday, had them sell out in two hours - over 270 sandwiches and a line down the block! We arrived early, today, and were the first customers in another line rounding the block. Located between Phinney Ridge and Greenwood, FORTUNA is a neat little neighborhood sandwich shop serving Italian sandwiches. From the moment you walk in, the staff is very welcoming. The back of house was clearly comfortable with each other and asked around to give us their consensus opinion on the best sandwich to order when we asked for recommendations. The menu is small and the sandwiches are all served with the same bread. There really didn't seem like any wrong nor outstanding options. I ended up going for the caprese and my friend ordered the bottega sandwich. Without any hot components, the sandwiches are ready fairly quickly when there is no line. Mine was out within 15 seconds of paying. Inside the restaurant, seating is limited. A few high chairs good for individual seating but definitely not built for groups. Outside, there are a few larger tables with benches. For the Summer and early Fall, it is perfect. A nice place to people watch and enjoy the last of the sunny days in Seattle, but as we head into Winter and late Fall, I expect it to be slightly less comfortable. The sandwiches were very tasty. There is a clear focus on high quality ingredients, and in a caprese sandwich there is nowhere to hide. I was surprised by how good the tomato was! It had a firm bite while still having some juiciness and nice prominent flavor that was not outshone by the balsamic. The pesto was a nice addition with the basil being a little less strong than I expected, with a creamy and soft stracciatella cheese bringing it all together. The real strength of FORTUNA is the bread. It was perfectly crispy on the outside, being able to hold the sandwich together nicely despite the balsamic and stracciatella, remaining crunchy yet easy to chew and fluffy on the inside. They use the same bread for all of their sandwiches guaranteeing a yummy snack no matter what. The main issue I have with this restaurant is the value. Although the food is great and clearly a lot of care goes into their craft, it really does just feel like a snack. And aside from the caprese, the price of the sandwiches range from 18 to 21 dollars before tax and tip. I mind this less knowing that they use high quality ingredients and are a locally ran business, but this would not be my first choice for sandwiches keeping this in mind. Overall, FORTUNA is a great choice for a quick bite to go or a quick lunch on a weekday. Between ordering a sandwich and getting it took about 20 minutes. We were like their 40th sandwich since open. They're fast! A sandwich will run you about $20-25 between tax and tip. I was a bit apprehensive visiting Fortuna over the weekend for lunch. I'm not a huge fan of long lines, as everyone seems to report, not to mention the fact that this place feels like another of those overhyped sandwich shops to newly open in the city. At this point, it seems like some of the hype has died down a bit. At least, when we showed up at around 11:45AM on a rare bright and sunny December morning, there wasn't a line, although the interior was pretty full with people waiting for pickup. The lines seem to ebb and flow a bit. By the time we left around 12:30, there was a line of 8 or 9 people waiting to order. I especially love the basket of freshly baked schiacciata sticks next to the register, dusted with salt and drizzled with olive oil. The bread is baked hard, giving a stiff crunch, giving a delicious textural element against the fresh and peppery olive oil. After placing our order at the front counter, the food took less than ten minutes to arrive. Fortuna ($21) - Well I certainly screwed up. I meant to order the Bottega but for some reason I ordered the Fortuna. And I hate olives and gorgonzola cheese. Oh well! I still gave this a good shot. The Fortuna is a hefty sandwich on a 5 inch square of schiacciata. The bread itself is just like the sample sticks - extremely hard and crunchy with no hint of moist or soft interior. It's cut in half and filled with a bounty of flavorful ingredients. Truffle infused gorgonzola is spread on the bottom slice, giving the sandwich creaminess and a funky earthy flavor. On top, paper thin slices of pork, delicate enough to melt on the tongue like snowflakes. While they call it porchetta, I'm not sure that's the correct terminology given the well marbled transparent pink color of the meat and the lack of braising spices. It doesn't seem to be highest quality and tastes kind of like commercial deli meat due to the saltiness and industrial pork flavor. On top of the pork, there's a bundle of quick pickled red onions, strongly flavored with vinegar giving a rich acidic bite to cut through the fattier elements below. There's then a bed of arugula, and a mixed olive tapenade, perched on top of only half the sandwich or so, like it had been applied with an ice cream scoop. There are a lot of strong flavors in this sandwich - there's the truffle, the gorgonzola, the pickled onions, and olives - yet the overall flavor profile is exceptionally balanced. Nothing overpowers anything else, giving flavor harmony in each bite. The main negative - I found the bread to be baked far too long for my tastes. I came out with my hard palette almost completely lacerated, as if I had just chewed on a bundle of razor blades. While there are some weaknesses, the sandwich as a whole is delicious. (5/5) Caprese ($15) - This one is a much simpler sandwich, but equally delicious. It's only maybe half the height of the Fortuna, but it delivers on flavor and has a better balanced bread. The ingredients here are distributed evenly throughout, so each bite is essentially the same. Since there's so much pesto spread on the bread, it soaks into the schiacciata, allowing it to soften a bit, making it easier to eat. The stracciatella cheese, spread on the bottom, is almost cream-like in texture given how fresh, fluffy, and soft it is. On top, some sliced tomatoes which are a bit mealy in texture. They do still have full blown tomato flavor unlike a lot of grocery store tomatoes this time of year. Given that tomatoes aren't in season right now, I wonder how this sandwich is during the summer with fresher sun-riped tomatoes. Above, there's peppery arugula, then a mixture of pesto and balsamic. It's sweet, a bit fruity, a bit bitter and peppery from the olive oil, and not especially basil forward (in fact, I originally thought it was made with some herb other than basil). This sandwich is really good, and yet I think it would be even better during tomato season. (5/5) I came into Fortuna fully prepared to hate on the food. I left feeling very satisfied. Great staff an delicious sandwich! First of all the owners and all staff are very nice. They love what they are doing and making and love sharing it with others. The Gran Sasso Sandwich had meat, cheese, artichoke, delicious arugula and a spread of very good olive oil with pesto. All ingredients are top shelf. It could have had a little less pesto as it was a bit salty for me, but that's me. The bread is delicious and when you combine great bread with amazing insides, you get a fingertip feast and it's big enough to split!! Will go back to try another one. This place has been on my list for a long time ever since Infatuation rated it very high on their Best New Restaurants of 2025 list, so I brought myself and a friend here around 12pm to a moderately long line where people kept coming in and crowding the inside seating area closest to the kitchen. The immediate inside is not the only area with seating; there is a lot more seating inside a garage-like area a little beyond the kitchen. The inside nearest the kitchen has bar-like seating and portraits of their sandwiches. You order up at the counter, and you can check their menu outside, which consists of 7 types of sandwiches. My friend and I were vacillating between the bambino and the bottega, and decided collectively to each get their bambino in the end. This sandwich has mortadella (an Italian sausage sliced thinly like ham), lots of stracciatella cheese (a really soft cheese with heavy hints of mozzarella), pistachio and olive oil all between two square-cut slices of schiacciata bread (a crispy bread that's chewy on the inside). The whole sandwich is actually really salty while only being balanced by the bread, and the only water dispenser was actually out on the indoor garage patio seating area. That aside, the mortadella had such a fresh and slightly spicy taste to it that complemented the buns and even the excess cheese itself. There's so many savory flavors mixing together that actually pair well together, which I loved a lot despite this not being a hot/warm sandwich of any sort. It's $18 before tax but deceptively huge; my friend and I both considered taking part of our sandwiches to go but eventually finished the whole thing. Both sandwiches also arrived in less than 7 minutes, as I could see those in the kitchen working fast yet efficiently to keep up with the pouring of orders both in-person and online it looks like. After this visit, I can see why this place was rated so highly; you can get full off of these well-crafted and mean sandwiches and do so in a casual, relaxing area. Also not a lot of room inside to wait for your order, so bring a jacket. We probably waited about 10 min for our food. We had the number 1 and 6. The bread was light, crispy and flakey all at the same time. It was slightly thinner than normal but it made the bread to content ratio great. The 1 was buttery, salty and a little sweet. I live nearby and frequent the shops and restaurants on this stretch so was very excited for this development. This cute spot with specialty bread and sandwich fillings fits right into its surroundings. But then, 2 sandwiches, 2 single bags of chips, 2 sauces = $54+ (incl tip). For take away. I do try to be empathetic to the fact that this is what it costs to run a sandwich shop in this city these days but the price will be a barrier to any sort of regular patronage for me. I am rooting for them and hope they find their pricing sustainable. That said, if price is not an object for you, the sandwiches are great. Size is shareable. Yummy focaccia style roll and some fun sandwiches. I do hope to see something a little more exciting than a caprese for veggie options in the future. Especially now that we are out of tomato season. I'm a big fan of Italian style sandwiches. This spot uses schiacciata bread, which is like focaccia but it has a crispier surface. I arrived on a Sunday just prior to opening, and the line was quite long. Fortunately it moved quickly. Service was very friendly and the shop was very clean. For the west coast, I think this is close to one of the best sandwiches you are going to find. You can always tell when a place is doing something special because the people working are happy to be there, that's definitely the case here. I think the best move is the caprese sandwich add prosciutto, but the quality of ingredients are some good that the bambino, which is basically ham and soft cheese, is equally good. Very good sandwiches. The Bambino was the standout, a lot of meat on that sandwich. Bottega was spicy, almost too much meat, needed something sweet to offset the salt and spice. Balsamic drip? Bread is very good, not overly crisp as some have mentioned. The serving staff was prompt and helpful, restaurant was busy and packed but clean. Nice seating option in the garage, I'd suggest replace the large picnic style tables with more 2 tops. The line was out the door, length of building at 12:00pm, we we ordered within 10 minutes. Very prompt. Music is fun 80s stye. The food comes out very fast, probably 6-8 people working, assembly line style, pay attention for your number. read more

I looove an italian sadnwich so was excited when this spot opened up nearby! Luckily we had a friend pick up sandwiches for us, so we didn't have to wait in line but he said the line was short when he got there at 12:15pm on a weekday! I got the bambino which is their mortadella and straciatella sandwich and my partner got the bottega. They were both pretty good, but I liked the bottega more! The prosciutto was good and wasn't really the type where you take a bite but you end up just eating the whole piece of prosciutto bc you can't rip it with your teeth (maybe this is a me problem lol). The bambino was good too but I felt like it was a little simple. I just wish there was maybe one more ingredient. The food and service was great! Everyone was super friendly and the sandwich I got was amazing. That being said.... for 2 sandwiches and a bag of chips it was $48. I understand that the flour is imported from Europe and that it is a truly artisanal sandwich and that's why it cost that much... Such a great experience here! We stopped in not realizing they were about to close, and instead of rushing us or making us feel awkward, they were incredibly kind and welcoming. That alone says so much about a place. All of our sandwiches were delicious. They gave us a great suggestion for a kid-friendly sandwich, and it was a total win.
