I was searching through yelp about a month ago in dire need for a new stylist. I'm new to the area and severely needed some help with my hair. I've been a blonde my whole life but its started to darken as I've gotten farther into my 20's. When I read Marina's reviews she sounded almost too good to be true. I called and left her a message about what I needed and what kind of hair I had and she called back within the hour. Not only was she extremely kind over the phone but she really seemed to understand what I needed and I set up an appointment with her as soon as possible. About a week later she was in my kitchen drinking coffee and doing my hair. It was like having a cool older sister I never knew existed! We chatted and laughed the entire time she was coloring my hair. When it was time to wash my color out she brought me over to the sink. I was surprised that a stylist could really put that much time and compassion into something as simple as washing my hair. Afterwards she gave me a blowdry and styled my hair and I kid you not I felt like Marilyn Monroe by the end of it. I can't say enough good things about working with Marina! She made my mom's wedding day totally stress-free. She's such a sweetheart, fun, laid back, and SO talented! My mom got married the day after Thanksgiving, and we were worried about finding a hair and makeup stylist who would be available that day. Luckily, we found Marina and she gave us the most perfect, relaxing day. Everyone in the bridal party wanted a different look (glam, 1920s, classic, etc.) and the bride wanted to go very natural. Marina was so accommodating to what everyone was looking for and made us all feel beautiful. She spent the entire day with us and helped us plan out the schedule so that everything went exactly as planned and on time. I was super disappointed about how things worked out here. Brides beware. I booked a hair and makeup trial for my wedding three months in advance since I would only be in town for one weekend and needed to get a lot of planning done. I confirmed my appointment a week before it was supposed to take place. The morning the appointment was be at 9am I received a text from Marina at 8:30am saying she would be at least an hour late. She claimed she was running late at another appointment but I find that hard to believe since she needed to leave no later than 8:30 to get to my appointment. Meaning she had a 6am appointment on MLK Monday. I explained to her that I was only in town for the weekend, like I had explained when I made this appointment and that I also had a meeting with the florist and caterer that day and did not have an extra hour of time. I asked if she could please be no more than 30 minutes late. At 9:15 she called to say there was no way she would be there before 10. I said okay but I had to leave by 12 and we would probably not have enough time but I would like to see what we can get done. Then Marina told me that she "clearly can't meet my expectations." I explained that the only expectation I had, was for her to arrive on time and then she told me that this was clearly not a good fit and she could not work with me. I told her I agreed and hung up I have never in my life had a hair or makeup artist be an hour late to an appointment especially when it's related to someone's wedding. On top of that it is unacceptable to be rude to a customer because they are not happy you're going to be an hour late for her wedding makeup and hair trial. No one is going to be okay with that. I wish she had at least been nice about it because I would have loved to try her based on her website. I really dodged a bullet here though. Imagine if she been an hour late on my wedding? This is not someone you want to work with if timing is at all important to you. And if Marina messes up, don't expect her to be apologetic or to treat you with any respect. Marina has been doing my hair for over three years. In our first session together she was able to fix my terrible and damaged ombre into a beautiful ombre! Marina has always given me the most beautiful and flawless color and cuts from day one. Although I've moved to NYC, I still go back to boston to get my hair done from her because no one else compares! Marina did the makeup and hair for me for my wedding and hair for my mom and sister. She did an unbelievable job. I loved what she did during the trial, but she did an even better job on the actual day. Like the other reviewers here, I cannot emphasize how great Marina is to work with. She is wicked friendly and sweet and talented. She is very, very good at her job and her personality is like icing on the cake. Marina made my wedding day so special! I got many, many compliments on both the hair and the makeup. I have thick curly hair and she used my natural curls to amazing effect. I am South Asian so I was worrying about finding a stylist who can work with tan complexions and Marina laid all those worries to rest. One day I had scheduled an appointment at my regular salon with my go to stylist but the schedule got mixed up and I ended up with Marina. She is so nice, friendly, efficient, easy to be around and listens to direction better than any other hair stylist/make up artist I have ever seen. Oh my gosh, Marina and her assistant did such an amazing job doing hair and makeup for my bridesmaids and me for my wedding on June 5. Seriously, it was absolutely perfect.
