I really wanted to like this salon -- they're local, in a great location, and even though their website is mostly stock photos, I was still hopeful. When my daughter needed a last-minute appointment for an event, I was excited to find them and booked right away. Since I had secured the appointment, I stopped looking elsewhere. They had several openings with two stylists throughout the afternoon, so I assumed we were all set. About 45 minutes before the appointment, I got a call saying they had to reschedule because "the girl had to go home." No apology, no offer to move us to another stylist, no real concern -- just a matter-of-fact cancellation. It was a Saturday, they had plenty of availability, and it genuinely felt like they just didn't want to stay for a new client. I ended up with a disappointed child and no time to find another option. In hindsight, all those open time slots (and the website photos) should have been a warning sign. Really disappointing experience. I won't be booking again. read more

Where to begin? There are so many reasons I will never go back to Salon Sabrina again! I saw a Groupon for micropigmentation of my eyebrows I wanted. To be a conscientious customer, I called Salon Sabrina to ask if they would color touch-up my pre-existing permanent makeup. They told me to text them pictures of my face with no makeup, which I did. They texted me back that they would accept me as a customer. Additionally, they told me not to buy the Groupon and that they would honor the price. I know this is against Groupons policy. So, I bought the Groupon anyway and booked my appointment. I got a voice mail asking me to come in hours early because of a cancellation, but I could not do so. So, I showed up 15 minutes early, with my eyebrows drawn on the way I wanted them re-inked. I was let down into a basement and the makeup technician acted shocked that my eyebrows already had micropigmentation on them from a year or two before. I reminded her that I called first and then texted her photos of my face before I booked the appointment. She checked her phone and claimed no such text existed. I checked my phone and showed her the text to defend myself. Again, she acted shocked! The makeup artist immediately began berating me about how badly my face looked and how poorly my eyebrows were done by the previous semi-permanent makeup artist. Keep in mind, I am totally happy with the way my eyebrows look and the work of the last salon... and I had already told her this multiple times! Yet, she continued to verbally abuse me until I was on the verge of tears. At that point, she told me to calm down as if I was the one Behaving Badly. She kept insisting that my eyebrows were naturally too low and they made me look old and tired. She wanted to pluck out 25 to 50% of the hairs on the bottom and redraw my eyebrows higher on my forehead... Like hers. I did not like her eyebrows at all, as they looked completely unnatural, and did not wish to look like her. Calmly and professionally, I repeated that she could move my eyebrows up a millimeter or two, but that was it. It was at that point that she told me she was not comfortable RI inking my eyebrows at all. She felt they were bad work and she did not want to contribute to it! I reminded her about the Groupon and she told me to go get a refund... which I promptly did. This was my first visit to the salon although it is only a mile from home. Tanya did a fantastic job on my eyebrow lift. I'm one of those people who has thought about permanent makeup off and on for years but thought it was too costly, too painful and wasn't aware of anyone in my community that was known for their work. That changed when I moved to Watertown and met Tanya. It wasn't too costly or painful (skin not even sensitive less than 24 hours later).I had intended to start with brows and then consider eyeliner. I read reviews about how great Tanya was but was still hesitant. During my consult in her very clean and comfortable space, it was clear she was very professional and knowledgeable. In 2 hours, I had new brows and eyeliner. Looks amazing. I did this to make my makeup regimen (putting it on, taking it off) more efficient but it also made me look younger. Amazing and I mean amazing salon. My first time coming to this salon and I'm amazed by the service. My haircut and color came out incredible. My 2 year old son has Autism and they made him feel so comfortable and happy. They loved playing with him and seeing him smile and laugh. The stylist Ashlee did such an amazing job. I did my hair with Krista last winter. I have dark brown hair and I came to color my hair a chestnut brown. As this requires lightening, I anticipated that bleaching was required. Krista did not think I needed bleaching and went ahead to apply the color over my hair as is. I waited in the chair for almost 1.5-2 hours of processing. Krista was busy doing her coworker's hair and did not check up on me. After washing and drying, my hair looked EXACTLY AS IT DID WHEN I CAME IN. She then applied toner on me and that took another 30 minutes. After another wash and dry, my hair still looked the same except now my roots are ORANGE?! She didn't say anything, so I had to point out the obvious. She had the audacity to tell me that it's the lighting in the salon, sell me a toning shampoo which she swore would fix everything (it didn't!), and charge me almost $200. I was like... um... that's now how it works. The lady at the front desk also chimed in about how the color came out perfect. Um, no it didn't. Coloring did not happen... at all. At this point, I had been here for hours. I considered it a learning experience, paid, and left. I will never, ever return. They have stylists who clearly don't know how to do hair and who gaslight their customers to get out from fixing their mistakes. Only posting now because I've been coloring my hair every month since then and haven't had any issues. I find myself alluding to this salon visit to avoid the same mistake. So, I have a regular hairstylist that I love, but I wanted to branch out a bit. God, I wish I hadn't! I have a trip planned, so I wanted to get my hair looking nice. I scheduled an appointment on my lunch break the day before: 12:30 PM. I have a ton of hair and an hour lunch break, so it's usually a little tricky to get my hair done at lunch, but not impossible. The entire reason I went with this salon is because Super Cuts wouldn't make an appointment with me the day before, and I wanted to be sure that I wasn't waiting in line while my break ticked away. I walked in 5 minutes early, and the only staffer in the salon was in the middle of someone else's haircut. She acknowledged me in a very short way. Just smiled at me and got back to her other client. I had no idea if this was the woman I was here to see, or if my hairstylist would walk in later. So I didn't bug her. I just flipped through magazines and waited. At about 12:37, I finally caved and asked if she was [hair cutter's name]. "Yeah. [long pause] Are you my 12:30?" "Yes. Do you know when you'll be..." "In the next ten minutes." Gah! "Maybe 5... Are you in a hurry?" "Yes, I'm on my lunch break." "Oh. I'm the only person here." 10 minutes later, we got started. "I'm sorry I didn't talk to you more when you came in. I thought you were the woman who took our orders. I saw you had paperwork, so I assumed." Paperwork? I was looking at the magazines. I asked for my hair to be "blow dried straight - with body". And professional looking. Any time I've asked for that, I get my hair blow-dried straight with a little oomph at the bottom. Getting your hair dried straight is about getting it sleek and shiny. I showed her a picture in a hairstylist book of a woman with straight, sleek hair, with some curves at the bottom. She repeated back to me, "Ok, I see. Straight with a curve at the bottom." She got to work. I took off my glasses and waited. FYI, she's the type of hairdresser that has a problem with every product that you mention just because you buy it at CVS. She was also answering all of my questions in really clipped and annoyed answers. She told me that she had a signature "sexy blowdry" that she thought would be perfect for my hair, but it might be a little too wild, based on what I was asking for. I told her to just give me a toned-down version of that, and it would be nice. When I put my glasses on to see the final product, I didn't know what to say. It was frizzy and HUGE. The kind of curls she gave me were like Farah Fawcett's. But HUGER. It was just a TON of my layers all windswept from my face. It's also not shiny AT ALL. It looks like a housewife from the sixties who got her hair done in rollers. I tried to touch it a little, and she told me not to. Since I've gotten back to my office, I've tried to run my fingers though it UNSUCCESSFULLY. Okay, this is 2011. To not be able to touch hair and move your fingers through it - that hasn't been in-style for decades. So, here I am. Annoyed. I wanted to be charitable since she perked up in the middle of the styling and talked to me a little more normally. But I'm so annoyed about my Farah-hair. I came to Salon Sabrina because I bought a $29 groupon for the Cellophane treatment and blow dry, it's across the street from work and I needed to kill an hour before an event. I also needed a trim. I used to get my hair cut here but stopped because i just wasn't impressed with what I was getting for the price. My hair is all one length and considered long. A trim for me is simple because there are no layers to figure out, I could do it myself if I could see the back it's that simple. Being charged $48 to trim 1 inch off the bottom is ridiculous to me. I started going to super cuts because they would do the same thing for less than $20! The woman that did do my hair was very nice, knowledgeable and did a good job (not sure how you couldn't do a good job on my hair). I just don't understand how you can charge $48 for a trim...to me a trim and a cut are two different things. I won't go back there unless I want to get a real hair cut/style for that price, super cuts does just fine in the trim department. It was also hot in the salon and didn't offer anything spectacular. The Cellophane treatment (still not sure exactly what that is) because my hair is exactly the same as it would be without the treatment. Seemed like expensive conditioner to me. Not worth it. Also, the accept credit cards but not for the tip (unless you tell them before hand). Not sure what that means? read more

While the person I saw for waxing was good, and left no sign of hair I found the facility this took place in to be dirty and the last thing you think of in a salon/spa setting. The bed you lay on has a blanket that is stained and tattered. The floor is visibly unclean. The ceiling tiles are gross, which is unfortunate as they're your view. The waxing tools and kit are not sanitary looking. I often leave with terrible hives, even with sensitive skin I don't usually react to things that badly. I will say that I kept going. I was there at least 5-8 times and each and every single time I found the person at the desk, who I feel is either the owner or manager to be a troll. She does not smile. She does not remember you. She treats you like you're bothering her. She is completely unprofessional. The last time I was there they tried to find the aesthetician , as she left to pick up her kids. While I waited I heard the conversation. She basically said, " I don't know who she is," and seemed annoyed and stressed. The whole thing was weird. I basically, thought a- the fact that they were calling this person in for business was strange, she's either there or not. b- the call should not have been made in front of me. c- I'm a customer, treat me like one. At that point while she was on the phone, I walked over to her and said forget about it, and walked out and have not returned. They are not worth the aggravation. The salon seems caddy, the manager/owner is so unwelcoming, and the facility downstairs the "spa" area is gross. read more

So, I showed up 30 minutes later, as requested, and was told that because I was 1/2 hour late, they couldn't take me. No one knew anything about a phone call, and besides that, Groupon facials were only done by one person who was currently with another client anyway. When I got home, I found the voice mail and called the salon. The stylist who answered was very sympathetic and said she would email the "boss lady" who would be back in town on Wednesday, but might call before then because she was sure to be upset. Had permanent makeup done today by Tanya. (I had it done once, years ago and never went back for the touch up because I did not feel confident in the technician at another location). I am so grateful to have found Tanya! She knows her stuff and definitely put in more pigment than my last experience. It was a little commute for me but worth every minute when you find a true professional! The salon is beautiful with a great vibe. Tanya has a cozy room on the lower level with a calming energy and soothing music. You immediately want to sleep and relax. She explained all post care and made me feel extremely confident in her skill. She sincerely kept checking on my comfort level and only seemed content as long as I was. When I got home and looked at the finished work, I was so excited! Nothing like my last experience years ago at another place. The pigment was high quality and placed beautifully! A true artist and expert. I can't thank her enough and so happy I don't have to be bothered with applying makeup everyday anymore! I am soooo dissappointed and sad because I was really excited to go to this place and thought the groupon I purchased was a deal but I pretty much paid $65 for a hideous haircut. Moving forward. For a bang trim, she cuts straight across a la your mom before your 4th grade school picture. A few snips in, I get fidgety and end the session. She gets paid and I run to my go to salon, almost in tears, to get the horrific mess fixed. That's what I get for cheating on my wonderful hair stylist. Their website is not reliable, I waited a good 15 minutes past my scheduled appointment. The prices do not reflect the quality of service. And no communication with new clients. came in with a groupon for a wash, cut, glaze, and blow dry. my stylist was Leah, a newer/younger stylist with lots of talent! my hair needed a little toner to rid my fading blonde of brasiness, and instead of a glaze we agreed on a semi-permanent color on the ends of my hair, because glazes only last 2-3 washes (maybe) and the semi permanennt color should last about 4 weeks. I asked Leah for a trim, as my ends were basically straw, and she took off about an inch or two which was fine, but the layers and angles that she cut were a little strange. nothing awful, but I would have like my bangs to stay a little longer, since I've been growing them out and they're now back to that awkward not-quite bangs/not-quite full-length stage. but again, not the end of the world, hair grows. now it's been about a week that I got my hair done and the semi-permanent color is completely gone. I've washed my hair only twice with the hopes of preserving the color (and I use redken shampoo to preserve my color anyway so sulfates cannot be an excuse for it) but the orange-y tint is back to how it was before I went intot the salon. I'm a little disappointed in how the color looks now, because I absolutely loved my time with Leah. the only other downfall is what I actually ended up paying for... Groupon: Women Wash Cut Glaze & Blow Dry - $32 Salon: Full head color/blow dry - $50 So I basically got charged for a full head of color, even though I only had the ends covered with a semi-permanent, two blow dry's even though I obviously only had one, a glaze that I never used, and a hair cut. It really pains me to leave a bad review because Leah was so fun, and this may have been a total mistake on her part because she's newer, but it definitely left me with a bad taste in my mouth since a $32 haircut somehow turned into over $80 plus tip. I don't know what the stylist's name was, but I wish I did so that I could share it with you and tell you to avoid her. I've been to this salon twice, the first time was okay and since it's close to my house, I figured I'd go again. The second time I went it was terrible. First of all, making an appointment with whoever was on the phone that day was painful. She kept talking to people in the background while I was trying to ask her about open time slots. Then when we finally settled on a date and time, she didn't tell me who I'd be with. When I got there, it seemed like I was never assigned to an actual stylist, so I ended up with one of the women who was free. She had a really hard time understanding what I wanted, even though it was extremely simple (just a trim all around and trimming my bangs, I even provided a very clear picture). She kept barely cutting it and then saying it was done, I asked her to cut a little more. Then she said that she likes to cut bangs dry to see where they really fall on the face, which I kind of understand, but thought that was weird. So she dries my hair completely with a blow dryer, then TAKES THE APRON OFF and asks me to stand up while she cuts my bangs and sides of my hair completely dry, without anything covering me. What? I think she could see my hesitation so she said, "Oh don't worry, I'll blow the excess hair off of you when I'm done." I thought this was ridiculous but didn't say anything figuring it would end soon, but she kept me standing there for like 10 minutes. I was getting really hot and tired standing there for so long trying to keep still. Then she steps away and is like, "Alright, you're all set!" And she starts walking toward the register without offering to blow the hair off of my clothes like she said she would! I couldn't believe it, I was completely covered in hair. I started trying to brush it off myself and she didn't take a hint. I asked her if she could help me, and she seemed annoyed, so then she went and got the blow dryer and blew some hair off of me for a minute. I was still covered in it but just paid and got out of there. Good thing I didn't have anything to go to after that hair cut! I went home, had to throw the clothes in the wash and immediately take a shower. So annoying! My hair didn't even come out well, I had to fix the bangs myself at home in the mirror. I used to joke that I had "promiscuous hair" because I sort of bounced from salon to salon and never finding a hair stylist that I was really crazy about. Today that has all changed! I got an amazing haircut and eyebrow wax from Stephanie who is not only very talented at what she does, but also extremely knowledgeable and provided tons of advice for my hair and skin. When my much beloved Newbury Street stylist hit $200+ for a cut and color I had, after picking myself off the floor, to look for another place to take my hair and wallet. My hair is cowlick central, short, curly, unruly and not at all easy to cut and style. Rose the owner of Salon Sabrina was able to tame it and a month later it still looks good and has a shape instead of 100 pieces of hair going in a 100 directions at once. I would go back to Rose again for a cut without hesitation. The color is meh. She did not get all my grey and the color is very flat. It is only a tiny step up from what I have done myself out the box and is not even in the same ballpark as the color I got for my $200+. Several people have commented that I should go back to the color I had before. The cut and color were $95, I got a next day appointment and they take clients until 9pm; all huge pluses in my book. The Salon blares Kiss 108 to the point were you have to scream to be heard and the staff screams at each other to chat which they do pretty much non-stop. I think for a salon in Watertown Square (it is in the CVS parking lot) at this price point Salon Sabrina is worth a try if you are looking for a good cut at a decent price. read more
