The salon is at the edge of Newton Centre so is more convenient than my old habit of going to Boston. Gia Clarke is amazing! I HATE getting my haircut as I have historically difficult hair to cut and it usually doesn't turn out well ( my hair is different textures on different parts of my head, not quite curly, not quite straight)... but I am SO impressed with Gia's work. I had to share a photo of what my hair looks like first thing in the morning. I never style my hair and so I requested a haircut that would let my hair's natural wave come through and Gia delivered. I don't usually write yelp reviews, but I had to write one about how impressed I was going to Vaiani and Clarke Salon during the pandemic. I'm a nurse and feel like I'm extra cautious about the safety of myself and others during this time. I've been to Vaiani and Clarke 3 times since it has opened back up, and am highly impressed on how clean the salon was. I could see all the stylists cleaning in between customers and washing their hands constantly. All the workers were dressed appropriately in their PPE and all the clients were spaced apart at least 6 feet and also all wearing masks the whole time. Not to mention my hair always looks fabulous when I go to Nicole (pictures to prove it )!!! read more

Ladies with fine hair, read on -- I had the most amazing experience today at my first appointment. Always nerve-wracking trying a new salon, but I had to with a couple of important events coming up. More times than not I have a difficult time finding stylists that can make my fine, flat hair voluminous. The only thing that does the trick is well-placed layers, but it's a true skill set -- as a stylist, you either "get it" or you don't. Too many times I'll say "add layers!" and it's never what I want. Armela worked her magic from start to finish, all while holding a conversation. I came away with exactly what I wanted and more. I had a wash, trim, and blow-dry - no product. Wash was great and left my hair silky. I am so happy with my experience I can't wait to see Armela again after we're both back from maternity. The salon is located in Newton Centre and has a little parking lot across the street, which is nice. The place is nicely decorated and I love the old vault door. The staff was all very pleasant, especially the man at the front desk and Gia. Gia did a wonderful job on my husband's hair and listened carefully to what he wanted. A pleasant experience. I always want to write this review and always forget. It's been awhile since I've been to this salon since I moved. I have had several haircuts by Thanh (I hope I spelled that right) and have had color done by Lourdes in the past which was great. But the money I spend on that haircut is worth it!!!! His cuts are always the best! He has a way of even making a trim seem like the most spectacular thing to happen to your hair, I never feel rushed or like he does a quick" That's good enough" job. I love that he always gives me styling tips and ways to maintain my style on my own. I haven't posted a review in quite some time, but given the craziness of life lately I felt like I should give a shout out to Vaiani & Clarke Salon for everything they have done to make me feel comfortable getting my hair done again! I will admit I was hesitant to "get back to normal" (I'm still only visiting restaurants for outdoor seating!) but the staff has really taken all the safety protocol measures seriously and are still providing the amazing service and results I am used to with them! Between the constant cleaning, the staff (and clients) protective gear, and making everything as "touchless" as possible they have really done an amazing job! And... I have gone to Vaiani and Clarke since the opening. Customer service, professionalism and customer satisfaction have always been excellent. The salon is fresh, stylish and meticulous. So I thought making an appointment during the pandemic would be fine. Well, I visited the salon and the protocols and rules and regulations in place were above and beyond my expectations. I was greeted by the receptionist and was clearly seated following social distancing guidelines. Sanitizing between each client was clearly evident. I felt very safe and was impressed with all the "new" changes that were made, in keeping with state guidelines. I've been with these girls since they were at Kenneth Wildes. So glad they opened this beautiful shop down the street. My step mom is a retired hairdresser so growing up I never had to get my hair cut by anyone else. Once I got to college I started going to salons for my hair cuts. I tried a few different hairdressers before finding Alex. She is the absolute best. She did my hair for years until I moved to Medford, and I just recently went back to her because nobody else does my hair like she does. She listens to your requests and ideas, doesn't do anything without asking, and puts time and effort into making sure your hair is perfect and just the way you want it. I absolutely LOVE my haircut, she did an amazing job and knew exactly how to give me a "LOB" haircut. My only con would be it was outrageously expensive. I booked an appointment with Caitlyn (Kaitlin?) and I left the salon with a really bad haircut and a dent in my confidence. First, I went in at 2:30, I didn't leave the salon till 2 hours later at 4:30. She took 2 hours to cut 4 inches??? I showed the stylist a picture and explained what I wanted. She chopped my hair off above my shoulders..... everything i did not want. Honestly it's my own fault for not stopping her. The way she treated my hair, and would brush it against my face, literally brush hair on my face full of makeup, what kind of experience does she have? It's like i got my hair cut by a hairstylist in training. She put my hair up and had little baby hairs stick out of the clip, which she proceeded to pull down while she was brushing my hair. It hurt and I thought she would change the hair but she didn't. When I told her how unhappy I was with my haircut she tried to cut my hair even more. Are you kidding? Then proceeded to take the straightener and aggressively straighten my hair. V&C prides themselves on their world class stylists with top of the line training from what? From a YouTube video? What kind of salon are you running where your client is so unhappy to the point where you literally damaged my self confidence and you don't DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I couldn't stop crying. I know hair grows back but the shear incompetence of the hair stylist and the rude stylist next to her (trying to make jokes at my unhappiness because that is the epitome of "professionalism") makes this salon unprofessional and appalling. I have a huge event in 2 weeks and I don't want to take any pictures, I don't want to go because my hair is literally non existent. How do you not listen to your client? I do not and will not recommend this salon to anyone. Clearly management lacks the proper knowledge to hire decent hair stylists, trying to go for an upscale salon look with low grade stylists is a shame. read more

Great salon. Just had yet another first class experience here. The atmosphere is chic without being pretentious or too trendy, and the stylists are all pros. I have enjoyed great cuts by Domingas, Gia and Katie, as well was gorgeous highlights by Nicole. (Don't tell anyone but Domingas has cut actress Mila Kunis' hair.) The assistants are always attentive to water temperature and some will give you a wonderful head massage during the wash. Expect to pay $70-$80 for a cut and blowout, which is very reasonable for Newton Centre. read more

I called and asked for somebody who deals with thick hair and could dry cut it. She does a fantastic job. It's always a pleasure dealing with her. I just recently switched to this salon after having an awful experience with a stylist I've been seeing for 10 years. I honestly couldn't be happier with Vaiani & Clarke. Maria has cut my hair twice and both times she's done an amazing job. I have very thick and coarse hairand Maria totally knows how to cut it so it doesn't poof out or look/feel too heavy. I have been going to Gia for my blow dries for over 6 years. I live in Boston, minutes away from some of the top salons, yet I make the drive weekly to newton. I have long, thick and curly hair and it takes someone with a lot of skill and talent to make it look shiny, silky straight. I also love Adele for color, she is extremely talented. I recently had a blow out here; my office is close to this salon and I had a full day of clients so I wanted to look a little more put together. I briefly read a review on yelp and decided to take a chance. I called in the last minute and Alex happened to have a half hour so they booked me. From the people at the front desk, to the woman who washed my hair, to Alex herself I felt so taken care of. I needed to be in and out and felt heard. The salon has a spacious quiet elegance, even the other patrons are friendly. I asked a woman about her shoes and she happily told me the name and where to get them. I hope to get a cut here one day if I can bear to leave the woman I have been with for over a decade. Spent $500 to get my hair done for my friends wedding that I was a bridesmaid in and had to get my hair re-highlighted because first time it came out so dark you couldn't even tell my hair got lightened. I got my hair extensions also highlighted to match the hair color I got and after 3 times having them re-done here they still don't match my hair. Also couldn't even wear them for my friends wedding.
