Great range to shoot at, facilities are perfect for pistol and 50/100/200 yard rifle work. The Range Officers I met were all former Law Enforcement or Special Forces Military (two SEALS. one Sheriff and one Green Beret). A word of advice on these guys, listen to them and you'll walk away a better shooter. They are strict on safety and can tell exactly what you're doing right or wrong with your shooting mechanics. Just one one of these guys has probably fired more rounds than I will ever see in my lifetime. Charlie who I believe is the owner is a very knowledgeable gun smith and knows his inventory. He has a great selection of handguns and rifles. Top notch facility! read more

I like target shooting like some like fishing or golf. Like golf, its you competing with yourself. I had wanted to stop at Styx River for six months or more now and just haven't had the opportunity. Driving back from other appointments the other day I have a chance to drive there and of course as soon as I drive up and park it starts to rain. Surprised me but the outdoor shooting range for the pistols and the rifles are covered and you are nice and dry underneath the roof. I also assumed that proves very helpful in the summer because she would be under roof and not in direct line of the sun. The staff were very friendly and really go out of their way to see that you're attended to. There was a fair selection of accessories for handguns and rifles and I thought for its location of very reasonably sized array of pistols and shotguns and rifles for sale. The fee to go out to the pistol range is very very reasonable and the safety procedures in play excellent. And I say excellent because they're under the watchful eye of a fellow who I could tell immediately had spent time in the military, knew how to handle weapons and made sure that those of us who are out there did so. And in a couple of cases I watched he did so gracefully rather than come down hard on someone who needed a hand complying with protocol when he announced "The range is now cold". I emptied 4 clips twice (80 rounds) and improved my accuracy with the second 40 which is why you go to practice. I've been to many shooting ranges over the years but I never felt more welcome then I did here. I'll be returning and if you're looking for safe enjoyable range give this a shot. read more

I don't live in the area my son does and we have shot there several times when I come to visit.. I wish the new owner's the best of luck. They have invested in inventory and the store looks great. The bathroom was clean and everything was in order. I have one request , that the range master wear at least a vest so they stand out. I was there for several minutes before I found out who the range master was. Of course that was only my opinion maybe I am not correct . I've decided to write a review about this place since it was my last day shooting here. Since purchasing my first rifle, I began going here non-stop. Every weekend I would show up and feel extremely welcomed. One of the RSOs, who went by Mark, assisted with zeroing my scope on my rifle. When I bought my first handgun, he taught me a few tricks that helped suppress my twitch everytime I fired the gun. Very helpful and down-to-earth guy. The rest of the staff have a great sense of humor and are the absolute definition of "Southern Hospitality". Unfortunately, I must continue with my career and go where I am needed. But I'll definitely be back soon, so I hope this place doesn't go anywhere. read more

Styx River Shooting Range is an adequate range for your pistol, rifle or skeet shooting needs. The range is easy to access off of I-10 at the Wilcox Road Exit. The staff is safety-conscious (as should be expected). All of the range facilities are outdoors. There is a small shop with a modest selection of handguns, long-guns, ammunition, targets and other accessories. You may pay per visit or join their club and pay a reduced fee with each session. So the owner tried to respond to my review. With lies Ofcourse we left because the operator on the phone told us to leave immediately as it was dangerous! These people are scary and we were no where near aggressive AS WE ARE NEAR STRANGERS WITH GUNS EVERYWHERE! "Back up had to be called" man. We were leaving the vicinity and you couldn't handle that you couldn't handle being told to leave us alone and let us leave. only ones that were aggressive were the employees. They got angry because my bfs brother accidentally stepped over the yellow cold line and gave him attitude cause he freaked out on him and the guy range officer couldn't handle being told to chill out. This was a very traumatic situation in which we should have pushed harder to make sure there were the necessary consequences. As one of the sherriffs pulled my bf aside because he knew that the other officer went to that gun range a lot and was most likely buddies with the owner (which is scary) and he informed him of a few different things he could do to press charges so we chose that he get mentally evaluated to be around guns because soon someone's gonna get shot and killed in this hillbilly bullcrap place. "Kids" man we are 22 and 21 get outta here. read more

Predominantly a Skeet shooters range but they have sufficient range for your other shooting desires as well as long as it's not an everyday home defense shotgun. There are 15 lines for rifle 3 of which are 300 yard lines while the others are are 100 & 50 respectively. The pistol range directly beside the rifle range is separated by a small berm and reaches out to 50 yards with dividers upto as close as 7 yards. Benches and a counter/table are provided on both firing lines and are serviced by a single range officers post. It should be noted that all the range officers are NRA certified instructors and range officers and from my experience very friendly and helpful, willing too answer any questions you may have and lend their time and experience for advice and such. The shop is average sized but typically stays fairly well stocked with ammo and supplies as well as a variety of firearms leaning mostly on the rifles a opposed to pistols but their selection is impressive. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly as well and more than happy to answer questions and help you find that peculiar or specific item your looking for. Lastly bare in mind that ranges are few around here and that on weekend s they get pretty busy and can in fact be packed. read more
