I was on the hunt for a Mexican Bakery and the perfect Tres Leches cake for a co worker. I have tried this cake 3 times before from other places and thought, how does anyone like this cake?? That was .....until I found this place!! This cake was not only beautiful but tastes absolutely delicious. The bakery itself had so many different pastries, I was speechless! The ladies at the counter were friendly and there were quite a few people there. Which I thought was a good sign. The place had a good vibe. I did also try the carrot cake. Now, as a white girl, I like mine a different way so I was not a huge fan of this one, but that's just me. I just don't care for the pineapple and coconut, along with the carrot, nuts and raisins. For me, it was too much. I also like a cream cheese frosting, which this did not have. Still, like I said, that's just me. It did look really beautiful though. I ordered a 10" cake tres leches, paid $90 . What I received was a cake in a thin white box with no lid top. Thats extremely dangerous to do especially while driving from point A to point B and not professional as a business to do. The worker told me they don't carry boxes for these cakes. As soon as i took the cake from the store the thin box was bending in half got messed up plus got all over me. I went back in and explaining i cant take this $90 cake without a decent box for the cake. They were being rude and telling me that they told me to be careful when i take the cake. Thats beside the point. Provide a proper box for your cakes. For the $90 cake ya'll have no problem charging for but can't provide your customers a decent box as it honestly should be coming with in the first place. The company should disclose not providing a proper box for there cakes. Its not our problem its a business problem. It was so bad i had to explain to the workers that maybe if they double up even tripple stack the boxes together to make it sturdy to support the weight of the cake. read more

The other half of the store sells tortas, croissants, breakfast burritos and bolillos, carne asada fries and coffee / tea / orange juice. Service is quick and easy. Came in for a fruit tart, paid about 6 dollars. It was delicious and the crust was lined with chocolate. Parking is scarce. About 10 spots in the lot that's shared. Street parking isn't too far or just park quickly at the gas station and walk over. A few tables and chairs and a tv with music videos was playing when I was there. I was introduced to Su Pan through my coworker who buys their pastries at the UCSD location. She treated me to some and I thought they were so good, I had to come here to their El Cajon Blvd spot. I am now addicted to the pastries here. The Bavarian empanadas and macarons are my fave, although I do like the elote bread, tres leches cake, and bread pudding. I've yet to try their savory food, but I'm sure they're just as good as their sweets!!! This place usually gets busy and parking can be a pain, but I find going here worth it! This pan Rosca de Reyes is sooooooo delicious. It is moist--not crumbly, great texture, and my goodness the toppings especially the star was the cream cheese filling. I ate this bread three times! My go to spot for breakfast! I love their hash brown burrito and their chilaquiles! They also make great breads and pastries, tacos and tortas. You order at the counter and can eat in or to-go. Atmosphere is very casual. Word of advice, you may want to stay away from the corner of the Autozone, at the other end of the complex. I love a little coffee shop break when I'm on the road between patients and need a place to chart. Su Pan bakery has quickly become my safe haven for just that. Their baked goods are made fresh. So far I've tried their blueberry muffin - incredible, and they're mini flan - otherworldly. The shortbread that sits under the flan was perfectly light and the flan wasn't too sweet but had good body to it. Service is always great. Everyone is always patient with me when I'm taking 20 business minutes to decide what I want. And I love that the atmosphere is generally calm even when it's busy. read more

It was 6AM on a Saturday when I determined that I needed, yes needed, a breakfast burrito. This place looked promising. When I got there around 6:30, there were about 3 people in line, a couple of tables enjoying their food, and a few people waiting for their order. In other words, it was relatively busy for a Saturday early morning. The customers were diverse, some about to go to work, some who had a long night/morning, and people like me who had no good reason for wanting a breakfast burrito early in the AM on a weekend. I ordered the burrito with eggs, cheese, bacon, and potatoes. The potatoes weren't all that crisp, so I could do without those. I've been coming to this restaurant for over a decade as a local and have nothing but good things to say about the food I've had there; it's excellent. I've spent over $1,000 at this restaurant just this year on take-out and personal DoorDash orders for pickup. However, this recent experience I had was so bad that I was willing to create a Google and Yelp account for this encounter with the particular employee. To preface, I had also overheard a customer complaining about this specific employee a few months ago, which I had initially brushed off, assuming it was just an unreasonable customer giving a service employee a hard time. However, I was wrong. I recently went in to get a slice of cake as one of my regular orders, but as I was trying to place my order, an employee named Marisela accused me of stealing. I was confused; she had then gone on to say that she took a photo of my car before I drove off with the "stolen" slice of cake. She then claims that I fled after she told me I didn't pay for the slice of cake. To clarify, the day she was referring to, she did not tell me that I hadn't paid for the slice of cake. She approached my car that day and told me right before I was about to eat my slice of cake in my car (in a designated public parking spot directly in front of the restaurant) that I needed to move my car because I couldn't park there, I assumed that I wasn't allowed to sit in the car parked as it was relatively busy and there are limited parking spaces in the lot. So I obliged and said okay and left. So I was really taken aback when she accused me of stealing. She then showed me a picture of my car that she had taken while I was leaving. For starters, it is basically impossible for you to steal any of their desserts or food orders, as the desserts are inside a refrigerated glass display that is only accessible by employees behind the counter, and they do not hand you your dessert until AFTER YOU'VE PAID. Also, the food is made to order, which means you have to wait to be served your food until... You guessed it, AFTER YOU'VE PAID, or there is available pick up if... YOU'VE PAID ahead of time. Second, if I had taken my order without paying, why would I then sit in my car, eat directly in front of the restaurant with the food I stole, then flee, and then come back?TWICE, three days later? I then asked, When was the photo taken? As I don't carry cash, I could easily verify when I paid for my order. She then told me the date and time, and I showed her the charge and transaction details on my card, which I had used to "steal" the slice of cake. She then brushed it off and didn't offer an apology, and only let it go after I told her I have no reason to steal when I've come here for so long and have spent thousands of dollars there FOR OVER A DECADE. All she said was "Oh, it's okay" as if she was letting me off with a free order. I returned shortly after to ask for her name and to speak to her manager, but she claimed she didn't know what hours her manager typically worked. I believe she also intentionally overcharged me 70 cents out of spite on the day she accused me of stealing. Here are screenshots of proof. November 14th is the day I "stole" my order paid for, November 16th is the day she accused me of stealing and overcharged me when I returned, and the other screenshot shows the transaction total for what I spent there this year alone. Service is fast and friendly they take cash and cards and have a great variety of fresh pastries and drinks. I have tried the food but looks bomb just come in for the sweets. Rather than listening to my needs. I repeated the fact that I wanted a quote for a cake for 50 people. I repeated this 4 times.
