the entrance to a sub king restaurant

Sub King of Mechanicville is a good quick place to stop for a tasty sub. I can recall stopping at Sub King in Cohoes for turkey subs a long time ago, back in the 1990s before a fire happened there in 1997 (I won't go into detail, but it made the local news). Sub King now offers 12" cold subs for $5 (plus tax), competing with the Subway a block away. Besides the made to order subs, Sub King offers pizza, appetizers, pasta entrees, grilled sandwiches, salads, dinner plates, and cold drinks. Subway does not offer a footlong turkey sub for $5, but Sub King does, which was the reason I decided to stop here for lunch recently. The service was quick and friendly. I had a 12" Turkey Sub ($5.35 with tax) which was well made and not messy and had smoked turkey breast, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions, American cheese, and lots of mayo on a very firm sub roll. I was already full after eating half the sub, so I had a turkey sub again for dinner.

Wings were badly burnt. Not crispy. No sauce. No veggies. But received ranch dressing. And grease for my burnt wings.

Country Store - Pastrami sandwich with horseradish sauce and bacon on toasted rye

Country Store never once done me wrong. The food was plentiful, delicious and cooked to order. You'd be hard pressed to find a more inviting environment with better food. Breaks my heart to see it closed. Many thanks to the couple that owned it. Support your local eatery, friends! They're becoming fewer and much further in between.

On a way back from a Catskills cabin retreat, we wanted to find a country store, to perhaps find some local goods like local honey, jams, etc. Unfortunately, this place wasn't that because it was more of a deli/general store type on a main road, but they made up for it with delicious sandwich offerings featuring Boar's Head products! We had to wait for the dynamic husband and wife duo to help loyal customers who were coming back for "the usual" or trying something different "this week" and knew immediately how integral they were to this community! Later when trying to decide, the owner told us how he grew up there, wanted to be out of this woods so badly as a young man but never got to leave, and ended up sticking around - running this store for 30 yrs and how happy he was with family and a nice property with fields and stuff! We really bonded in that short while! My wife got the Honey Mama? which had turkey and ham with honey mustard and cheese. It was really loaded, maybe too loaded with ham that I felt the flavor was a bit skewed towards being too heavy. They were too generous! I had to have the pastrami on rye with swiss and horseradish sauce and the man asked, "you want bacon?" to which I obviously couldn't refuse! It took a bit long and the lady told me that she threw away the first toasted rye cuz she wasn't happy with how it was over toasted... much appreciated because when I bit into that gorgeous thing, I was in heaven. Pastrami wasn't too salty and had a great taste, buffered by refreshing horseradish sauce, accented by occasional bits of really crispy bacon. My wife stole a few bites of mine. Overall, other than sandwiches, the store offers usual fare of drinks, they have some beers, some baked goods and other usual packaged essentials but sandwich is their main game! You can see so many random sandwich concoctions scribbled on laminated sheets and posted everywhere near the sandwich counter! If you're passing by and want a great meal on the go, give this wonderful folks your time & business. You won't be sorry! Thanks again.
