A-MA-ZING. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Sub Culture uses quality ingredients, they carry Boulder chips and have fountain soda made with real cane sugar (no high fructose corn syrup). I've been here once so far. I had the Alps and it was good, but a little expensive. There are a lot of good looking items on the menu and I'd like to come back once I find a job in this town and can afford to eat out more. I like the theme and "cool" ambiance. The menu is large and a little overwhelming but with a little time it is manageable. I went for the pulled pork Juanita cuz it sounded great. Unfortunately, it was just ok. It had a "fatty" flavor and my guess is it was either a little cold or maybe a little old or both. It wasn't terrible but not great. The bread is pretty good. I'd give it a 7-8 out of ten but a little on the crispy side (mouth cutter). Flavor was nice though. The staff was really nice. I wanted to like this place more but food flavors didn't quite do it for me. read more

When I moved to the same block as a local sub shop, I was initially excited. After multiple trips to this sub shop though, I've found myself only completely disappointed. Initially, I was disappointed with the quality and taste of some of these sandwiches, but they're good enough to still crave due to the convenience and location. However, they really aren't convenient either and their customer service is horrible. For a store that's only open until 3pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends, the window of service is already narrower than it feels it should be for a cap hill sandwich shop. On top of that, they'll often randomly close early for completely illegitimate reasons like "cold weather" when it's only 50 degrees outside. Nothing quite ruins your mood like walking down the block to get a meatball sub that you're craving at 5pm, only to see a crayon written note on the door saying "closed early for cold weather". It's almost like as a business they don't like making money?? Sometimes they have breakfast burritos, sometimes that changes to only available on Saturday's... then sometimes it only Sundays. It's completely undependable. One time I went in, ordered a sub for lunch, was asked to pay for it like normal, then while waiting for my sub, witnesses two patrons come in after me to order food, and watched them be given the opportunity to pick a card for a chance to have their meal paid for. Watching that, having not been given the same chance, for absolutely no reason, was pretty frustrating indeed. It's hard to believe I'm saying this, but for once I'd prefer some chain restaurant that I can count on take up this prime business location. Give me a chipotle or jersey mikes that at least I know will deliver the same thing every time and be open. read more

I love that I can walk to this sandwich place. They have so many choices I had a hard time Choosing. I got the Londener on gluten free Bread. So the sub was good but it hardly had any horseradish sauce on it so it was dry. I had to add mayo to it when I got home. My bf go the Calle ocho, he loved it. He's Hispanic and said it was pretty close to a Cuban sandwich he had when he lived in Miami. He's from there and it was a nice find for when he's missing home. SubCulture's vegan/vegetarian sandwich game is strong. Unlike other (possibly better known) sub shops in town where you have to scrounge together a meal from the single vegetarian item on the menu, Subculture has entire vegetarian menu of cold and hot sandwiches to choose from. More importantly, for me, they are all veganizable by request. No need to substitute or swap out items yourself. Just let them know you want your sandwich vegan and they'll make it happen. OK, I wanted this to be good, I really did, as they are close to work. I like a sandwich, if done correctly. The menu is good, it has quite a variety. When I've ordered, my sandwich has been right, but nothing to brag about. A fellow co-worker has ordered from there 3 times- carry out (she really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt), They messed up her order each time. Mind you, it was not a difficult order: no lettuce, extra tomatoes. NOPE! Two other co-workers ordered a salad - NOT! The lettuce was wilted, and just not good! When seeking a quick, but filling bite on a beautiful sunny day, this is your place. The open patio and laid back atmosphere makes this one of my favorite Cap Hill eateries. Where friendly is an understatement to describe their staff and every creative sub is packed with fresh and abundant ingredients, it goes without saying that Subculture's mission to 'Feed The People' is reinforced in every detail. I went with the turkey salad and was happy to we more turkey, avocado, and cheese than actual lettuce. That's my kind of medley. The food has taken at least 20 minutes every time I have gone here. It's a sub...put meat and vegetables on bread and serve... what the F is taking so long? Now for the sub itself I'm not sure if the sub builder has a heavy hand when it comes to salting things, but good lord it tasted like a salt lick every time I've been here! I've tried multiple times to get on the bandwagon because of the close proximity, but forget it keep your BS and I'll head to one of the other 20 sub shops around town.
