Arrived for my morning appointment and was greeted by the wonderful Charlene, then Ray took my vehicle in right on time. Later Keene introduced himself and gave me a clear explanation of the completed service, as well as a recommendation, which I appreciated. Before leaving I got to meet Jose the owner, great guy. My new vehicle was the first-ever 2025 in their shop; and required a different oil weight than previous model subies, which they accommodated. Lobby area has complimentary coffee and tea, magazines, plus books for kids as well as a cool Hot Wheels track with a loop-de-loop. In my experience this is a fantastic shop with fantastic people. 10/10 all around! I have nothing but great things to say about this shop. Bought my 2010 STI basically sight unseen so I brought it here to have it checked out. It ended up needing quite a bit of attention. Charlene was so wonderful and friendly throughout the whole process. Keene did all the work on my car and let me tell you, he is meticulous! Keene went through my car with a fine tooth comb and then helped me prioritize my repairs. I normally have major major anxiety about leaving my car with people and having other people drive my cars. Quoted me one price over the phone, but when I drove 30 minutes to get to my appointment, they wanted to charge almost double. When pressed for reason, the mechanic said it would take an hour labor to install a shifter bushing. It takes 15 minutes once the car is on the lift. Brought my 03 Forester because it was the "Subie Shop" w/ great reviews had limited knowledge of the vehicle, so asked for a full inspection w timing belt service. I explained i wanted the car to last and was concerned about longevity and not performance beyond standard. Jose explained it needed a new catalytic converter because it was clogged, even though it passed smog a week before i bought it. But he assured me it was the issue and that he would replace it if it wasn't. Upon return experienced backfiring and consistent hesitation in accelerator, but a tiny bit more top end power which helps on hills. My schedule and location relative to shop posed difficulty with their limited schedule and Jose explained he was too booked up to help and wouldn't provide a rental but absolutely needed the car to come back to determine what was going on. I reset the cmu which would improve temporarily and dealt with it until months later I brought it back because I believed they made a mistake and Jose explained it was the spark plugs all along, and that he never inspected them originally even though i asked for a full inspection. Basically misdiagnosed the issue and refused to refund the cost for the catalytic converter which was the actual problem & actually stated he "wouldn't pull the plugs without getting payed for it" and was dismissive of my real concerns for the vehicle and responded as though it was my fault. No customer satisfaction! Total rip-off and payed over $3k, most of which for something that may not have needed to be done at all. read more

I can not say enough how AMAZING the Subie shop was to us! Moving from Indiana to california caused us so much stress with smog and having it pass inspections. Our experience with another company left me in tears but Subie Shop helped us change all modded parts back to the originals and they did not rob us either. Not only that but we had to leave the car for a week because my hubby had a business trip and we were stressing because his plates were about to expire. I am extremely grateful to everyone at the Subie Shop. Last month they saved me over $2,000 on repairs. I brought in my Subaru Forester for an oil change. The mechanic noticed a manufacturing defect in the engine that was leaking oil and was a high risk for an engine fire (it turns out this is a somewhat common defect in 2016 Foresters). The whole engine needed to be taken out and the seals needed to be replaced. This is a $4,000 repair. Even though my car was outside of the manufacturer's warranty, the Subie Shop helped me with contacting Subaru of America to get the problem fixed. Subaru ended up covering 60% of the cost for repair at a dealership. I didn't know anything about this issue or how to address it before going to the Subie Shop. They saved me a lot of money. I've been coming to the subie shop for months now and I honestly cannot even try to find a better place to bring my WRX. I first learned about the subie shop when I went to a socal subies meet in Oceanside. There several people swore by the subie shop and told me that they are second to none. After I installed my downpipe, I had some leaking issues. I brought my WRX to the subie shop and Jose (the owner) and Keene the head mechanic both inspected and fixed the problem, free of charge. It only took them about 20 minutes but these days I'd still expect to pay for their labor. I could tell then they were nice and experience guys. I had a chance to slightly get to know them and after talking to them for those 20 minutes I realized that they are truly honest car guys and I appreciate that. It's hard to find a shop or a business these days where you can connect and feel comfortable there. Jose and everybody who work for him truly believe in customer service and quality work. It actually seems to be their credo, as I learned after my motor blew several months ago. After I received an oil change (at a very sketchy shop) my car started to act all funny, blowing smoke and more. A couple weeks later the motor was gone. I was past my warranty so the dealer was going to charge around $6-7,000 for my motor rebuild. I went to Jose and he was able to do the build for under $6,000. It took time to get the motor built, but it was done meticulously. I visited the shop several times while the motor was being built and I had the opportunity to observe their work and get to know them even better. But when I say they know what they are doing, I mean it. Instead of just throwing in a new shortblock, they literally did that and cleaned an inspected every other part of the motor even if it wasn't associated with the short block. After the motor was built the car drove even better than when I first bought it! Much much smoother in acceleration and during low rpm driving. I was highly impressed. A couple months later, my TGV seals blew out and was making my car go into limp mode. I dropped my car off and within a couple days they found the problem, and addressed me with a few options that would work for my budget. Which I extremely appreciate of them, being a 21 year old and not made of money. So now the current problem I'm having is my tune, Jose & Keene are still eager to help me out because they truly want my car to be 100% problem free. That is awesome because I can't remember the last time a shop even gave a shit about me or my car. Regardless of the shop or rating. Jose and the Subie Shop, have proved that there are good quality, loyal shops & mechanics out there. And it's nice to know that there's a shop that still puts the customer as #1. I'd known San Diego had a Subie specific shop, but never had cause to visit it till now. My older '04 Forester got a check engine light recently at 180,000mi for an O2 sensor. I bought and replace it myself, cleared the code but it came back. So I took the unanimous recommendation of the FB group North County Subies and chatted Brandon up on FB Messenger and made an appointment. I had the car back at the end of the day, all the while getting updates from Brandon. It turned out the cheap sensor I bought on eBay was crap. :) Finding an auto shop you trust, would recommend and most importantly return to seems a scarcity these days. Subie Shop hit all the right buttons and I will return to them for my second timing belt, soon enough. Their $100 diagnostic fee went towards (and covered in my case) the labor for my job. The team performed a pretty comprehensive overview of the car and came back with some good recommendations, one of which I didn't know about (oil cooler seal). Although i hope not to see them again anytime soon ;) I would return to them in a heartbeat. Legacy Brewing nearby is worth stopping at. :) read more

Most honest and friendly shop you can find that specializes on Subarus. After much years of being a honda person I decided to pull the trigger and buy my dream car. A WRX. I knew little to nothing about boxer engines and trying to work on them myself became somewhat of a hassle due to the major differences and complications of the engine configuration. So I looked for a reputable shop because the stealerships weren't going to fly with their costs, customer service or even knowledge of the engine. Like I was suprised how little the subaru dealership knew about their own cars! Subie Shop knows what they're doing and This will be the 2nd time im taking my car to them for major preventive maintenance. Their quote beats any shop out there in San Diego County! Very fair, very friendly and always leaving me with the confidence when I leave the shop with my car. My turbo blew after the 1st few months buying my car from the dealer. Subie shop knew exactly what was wrong. It was my up-pipe that destroyed it and they recommended a better up pipe and refurbished my turbo for a very fair price in just a matter of days. My car has been running strong and now I just want to take extra precautions by doing some major preventive maintenance such as replacing head gasket, timing belt, pcv valve, thermostat, and water pump. Subie Shop was able to upgrade my vehicle's suspension, and add parts to upgrade the frame's stability for my 2020 STI. They replaced the stock undercarriage frame components with the undercarriage bracing parts out of STI's performance catalogue. This is a project that a Subaru dealership would not have been willing, nor able, to do. Now, the car drives as it was originally intended to drive as designed by its engineers.
