Now I see why people recommend double meat.
Adam N.

I haven't been to Dayton much over the years, and now I come here for work. When in Cincinnati, I found a few pretty good local places. In Dayton I'm 0 for 2. I was craving a sub, and wanted to try something local. I love a good philly cheese steak minus the onions. At SH, there is much more that goes on a sub. Oils. Greens. Other things. I have no idea why. A philly steak is meat, cheese, onions, peppers. Take away all of the extra garnish they offer and you're left with a sandwich that's at least 70% bread and 30% meat. I didn't have a philly cheese steak, I had meat flavored bread. The flavor wasn't anything special, and there wasn't a lot of cheese in there. Seems like if I refuse all the extras, they should throw on a little more of what I do want. The fries were pretty great, so that was a plus. I just don't have a lot of great things I can say. I feel dumb for tipping, that's for sure. Next time I'll hit Penn Station. I know they'll do me up right!

I have to say that this place is great. I came in town from Los Angeles, CA and I wanted something that was different from what I can get in California. My parents suggested subs. I was not interested in getting a sub... I mean how different can subs taste here compared to California?? I ordered the super chicken cheese steak and the super turkey deluxe along with some fries and a couple oatmeal cookies. I must say I was very impressed with the quality of the subs. They were hot and wrapped in foil and so good. Everything was tender and so delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone hungry looking for that local taste. Friendly customer service and decent prices. While I waited to pick up the subs they also gave me a free soft drink. Btw kids eat free BTWN 4-8pm! I ordered 3 subs that fed 4 people and we were all full afterwards.

Lacking in the meat department. The meat only covered half the sub.

Got a large meatball sub. It took a long time to make for some reason, but it was pretty good. Wasn't as good as Firehouse but pretty close.

They make awesome sandwiches every time. The store is family owed and operated. Very friendly folks. I like the 70's decor too.

Great taste of sub but very expensive for 3 four inch subs. Penn station was comparing to the taste and half the price

My only slight complaint that I would say as a word of caution is that I found the pepper relish to be a little over powering.

I recently had an order delivered to my residence from this establishment. I ordered the Ham Double…read moreDecker sandwich with provolone cheese on toasted white bread with no lettuce and no tomatoes. The order came with a side of French fries. The order arrived fairly quick and was in a styrofoam container placed in a plastic bag. There is a lot of ham on this sandwich and the fries were plentiful! I really enjoyed the sandwich. The ham slices were tender and the bread was lightly buttered. I didn't see an option to add mayonnaise or I would have. I felt the sandwich was a little dry. I also barely tasted the provolone cheese. It's there but sliced really thin. The fries were good, and there were a lot of them. They weren't too oily but not exactly crispy either. I think the meal was a good value. I just wish they would have had an option to add condiments. There were some napkins with the order but no condiments. I would like to try some of their other food options and I do recommend.

I'm a big fan of Philly cheesesteaks and varieties thereof. Ever since living in Dayton, I'd heard…read morewhisperings that Steak Thyme has some of the best cheesesteaks in the area. Recently, I was finally able to give it a try! They have quite the selection of cheesesteaks -- more kinds than I knew existed. Cuban, Buffalo, Greek and Italian styles just to name a few. I ended up going with the namesake, STS Chicken Philly (STS for Steak Thyme Subs), which comes with mushrooms, onions, peppers, STS sauce and fries on top. I requested the fries to come on the side instead of on top of the sandwich, which worked out nicely as then I didn't have to order a side. They offer 6 inch or 12 inch subs. I went with a 12 inch, and was surprised to see when it came out that it was actually just two 6 inch sandwiches. This worked out great, because I only ended up eating half and was able to take the entire second 6 inch sandwich home for leftovers. Overall, the cheesesteak was delicious and the leftovers heated up really well. The STS sauce is kind of a mix between thousand island and chipotle mayo. Interesting, but good. The inside is rather spacious, but we noticed most people got food to-go. Service was obnoxiously good -- I say obnoxious because it was almost to the point of hovering, if that makes sense. But overall, the food was good and they have such a variety that you could try something different each time.

The counter does not necessarily allow for people to view unless they try and look over to see them cooking but that is neither here nor there. I got a cheesesteak with mayo, onions and mushrooms. It was very good. Tasty and messy. Just the way I enjoy my sandwiches. It is difficult to compare to a Philly cheesesteak because the bread is different. It was tasty though. The food did take awhile to come out. It was to be expected because they are cooking it to order. I did notice that the food sat awaiting to be passed out for long than I felt like it should. The focus was on people paying and not getting the food out. The reasons for my three stars was not the food. It was the start of the process. The gentleman that helped us didn't seem excited to have us in. It was more like he was going through the motions. I watched as he talked to everyone. Never welcoming anyone in. Just asked name, what was wanted and anything else and he motioned everyone down the line. Kinda disappointed in the exchange. I get answering the same thing over and over, but welcoming people in is the first thing in business. Probably won't return to this location. I will try another and see if the experience is the same.
