I joined SUBU three months ago, after just moving to the area. A lot of people said this was the gym to be at, and they were right. The community is awesome- super friendly, welcoming, and just a great vibe overall. Everyone I talk to has been here for 4, 5, 6, even 7+ years, which says everything about how special this place is. The coaches are amazing, focused on correct form, building skill, and making sure you get the most out of every workout. They have scaled options for everything, so no matter where you're at, you'll feel like you can do this and grow. I love walking in, seeing the workout, and thinking, I'm going to do that?! This is a GREAT box whether you are a JUST getting started or doing CrossFit for years. The classes meet you right in the middle of insanity and easy going. It's everyday bro! Get to work. Try the gym for a week TOTALLY free and see for yourself. I only been doing CrossFit for about 1 month and I already feel the difference in my resistance and cardio and trust me you'll see some people on there that are legit shredded and they won't let you fail. Just had one day at Subu and I'm in love! I've never done Crossfit before but lift weights everyday and am very active. Upon entering I was greeted by multiple different people including the owner, Miguel. He made me feel confident that I will be capable of doing everything that they do during class. Miguel and another instructor had an eye on me through the entire workout and gave me instructions for proper form. Upon entering into the initial workout, I was taken aside with another new girl and they broke down the movements for us and allowed us both to practice with low weight in order to get the proper form. We then increased weight slowly and kept practicing the movements. The next workout was pretty simple but they still made sure we knew what we were doing and completed the movements properly and safely. I had a great experience at my first day of Crossfit! It is extremely important that they took me aside and made sure I was using proper form the entire time. Then even kept an eye on me after I already mastered the movements. I definitely lucked out that there was another new girl who seemed to be around the same age as me. But I am going back tonight by myself and very excited to continue learning Crossfit. They made me very confident that I am always welcome there and can ask any amount of questions that I need in order to be safe in my workouts. If you walk into the office of this box you'll see a photo of these guys coaching and working out in the back yard of their house. It's quite fun to see where they came from. A bunch of passionate people working out wanting and sharing fitness. This is exactly the kind of attitude that they brought to their box. The community is amazing, great friendly people excited for you to hit that PR, the coaches are excellent and fun without being pushy or "army bootcampy" as I like to say about certain coaches in other boxes I've come across. I was dropping in for two weeks while in town for business and these guys welcomed me and my friends with open arms. They pay attention to everybody, if you're a regular or dropping in, they make sure everybody knows how to do the movements, and keep a safe and friendly environment. This is a family box. You may walk in being a stranger, but you walk out having made new friends and being part of this fitness bond that bring us together in the sport of CrossFit. Had an opportunity to drop in from out of town today... coach was super friendly and got me squared away quickly. Interesting enough they do the WOD first followed by the Olympic lifts / training which I found interestingly different. As a side note, the WOD was challenging and as the norm I had to hang on for dear life. As a final side note, the coach said they normally turn on the AC in November! read more

I travel quite a bit for work and always try to find a CrossFit box so I can do a WOD with other folks instead of doing a WOD in my hotel. I found Subu CrossFit and am happy that I did. It is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Orlando. They only opened about a month ago (as of July 2012) but they are off to a great start. It's the prototypical CrossFit box...CrossFitters becoming box owners. One thing stood out for me vs. some other boxes I've visited. Larry and Miguel paid a lot of attention to the members working on the fundamentals of the Snatch prior to the WOD and then again during the WOD (Isabel). You can tell they care about what they are doing and aren't just hopping on the CrossFit bandwagon trying to make a buck. Very welcoming to out-of-towners. read more

Affordable and great coaching! Helped be get through the basics and understand what a good base for Crossfit is (it's your core). They always have 2-3 people there willing to help you learn. Also, they love burpees.....which is a bittersweet workout for me for sure lol. I would say they have great workout planning. They do not overwhelm muscle groups like I have seen. The SUBU trainers are amazing, they get to know you by name well and treat you like family. When I started I didn't have a clue of CrossFit so these are several things that I really like about SUBU CrossFit. 1) the convenient schedules for classes. So you can join at anytime to any class 15 minutes prior. 2) The SUBU trainers will teach you every movement you will do during the class always making sure that you maximize the efficiency of exercise and avoid injuries. As well they're constantly checking upon you to make sure you're doing it correctly. 3) Last but not least, the SUBU CrossFit community is awesome. Everyone supports each other during the workouts. This was the most insanely brutal workout I have ever had in my entire life. I couldn't even breathe afterwards and was unable to walk for 4 days. I got plenty of individual attention though and they definitely know what they're doing. It was just way too intense for me so I didn't sign up. Was in Orlando for baseball and looked up CrossFit boxes near my hotel. Saw Subu and had heard of it through word of mouth. The place is awesome! I have been doing CF for about 6 years and this place is legit. No BS--just hard work and good workouts. Coach Miguel was super nice, accommodating, and constantly asked how I was doing. Had some nice convo with a few other members. And the workout was a ton of fun. This place reminds me of my home box--functional and gritty. Will 120% be dropping in here again next time I'm in the Orlando area, and suggest anyone else around joins and drops in too! read more

I was skeptical of starting Crossfit, I was set on my regular gym routine but I also didn't really feel challenged any longer from it. Subu lets you try out their program for a week for free (great deal if you're unsure on whether or not Crossfit is for you). By day 3 I was 100% certain I'd join. The place is incredible. Every single coach I've interacted with goes out of their way to help you out. If your form is bad, they'll help you improve. If your form is good, they'll let you know. If you need to scale any of the exercises, they'll work with you to make sure you're doing good and getting the most of your workout. That alone makes for a great box and a fantastic workout every time. I've also made so many friends since joining Subu. It's not for everyone. If your main goal is to focus on fitness and not fit into a clique it's probably not the place for you. If you are lacking a social atmosphere and need that I would say this is the place for you. I agree the people were friendly but it feels more like high school kids trying to be cool than a family community and place to improve your fitness. read more

I love SUBU. Why? When I was looking for a box I was seeking a box with a set of coaches who had great experience and different coaching styles. I wanted to be a part of a crossfit family who has passion and respect for the sport. I wanted to be surrounded by amazing athletes who pushed and supported each other. That's SUBU. It was built from the ground up (check out the video on the blog). The coaches all have great experience, awesome athletic backgrounds and so much passion for people and the sport. The athletes all "show up and blow up" daily. SUBU gives back to the community. SUBU supports their athletes with their goals and provides great technical training that can be humbling, but it ensures that the athletes are safe. Crossfit can be terrifying for people and I feel SUBU does an amazing job of making sure everybody realizes that they can crossfit.
