Took our clock from the early 1900s in which hasn't worked in nearly 30+ years. The gentleman here got it working again and replaced the glass and the hands (the glass was broken in the 80's and the hands had previously been attached with a safety pin). He also took time to show my mom how to wind it and general maintenance of it. While the gentleman we worked with was friendly, I did have to remove one star because there were two other men here who were just brusque and on the verge of rudeness. Not a good feeling dealing with people like this. The shop itself is cool with all sort of different clocks. I have no idea about pricing, but one of the clocks I fell in love with was way out of my price range at $8000. But the repair we had done wasn't too badly priced at $500 for all the work they did. read more

Four trips to the shop so far, and still not repaired. I brought my school clock in for an overhaul in April or May of 2024. After receiving a phone call indicating that the clock was ready for pickup, I picked it um on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 and paid the $488 charge. I brought the clock home, re-mounted it, started it and set the time. During this procedure, I noticed that the half-hour chime rang several minutes ahead of the half hour. The clock ran for a few hours and then stopped. I re-started it and it ran for about an hour. I brought the clock back to Suburban on Friday, June 14 and explained both problems (the movement not running and the chime synchronization problem). A month later, after receiving a call that the clock was ready again, I picked it. The clock's behavior was identical to the first time. It ran for 3 or 4 hours and stopped. It still struck the half-hour a few minutes early and the hour on time. I called and left a message (they never answer the phone). After they returned my call, I took the clock back to them and included with it a printed page describing both problems. The third time they told me the clock was ready, I picked it up and discovered that while it now runs reliably, the half-hour is still striking several minutes early. I called, left a message, and not having received a call back after 8 days, I went back to the shop to talk to someone. The person I spoke to didn't say so in so may words, but his entire demeanor said "I don't know what to tell you." He said that he was not aware of a way to fix the problem of a clock striking the hour at the right time and the half hour at the wrong time--that any "fix" would affect both the top and bottom of the hour. When I wasn't satisfied with that, he went in the back to speak to the technicians, and came back with the same information. I asked him to verify that he was saying that they did not know a way to make my clock behave the way it had faithfully behaved for 44 years until I brought it in for an overhaul. He finally said that there was one last technician, very senior, who might have an idea, but he didn't work on that day. He took my number and promised, very unconvincingly, to have this senior tech call me the following day. That was two days ago. Note that every time I returned the clock, a different person took it from me and gave me a claim ticket. Each time, the person said that since it was a "come back," they'd get to it more quickly than usual. I'm horrified that a "come back" is apparently such a normal event that they have a term and apparently a policy for it. read more

Just had a wonderful experience at Suburban Clock & Repair. We brought in an antique clock that has not been working for some time, full well expecting we would need to leave it for an estimate, followed by a lengthy and pricey service. To our surprise, Brendan took a look while we were there and not only was he able to get the clock running again, he took the time to show us what he was doing and to explain how to fix it in the future. When we asked what we owed, he said no charge! We thanked him and gave him a tip. What a rare treat to receive such excellent customer service, and expertise to back it up! Highly recommend!!! On June 1, 2019, we took 5 of our clocks to Suburban Clock in Berea to be cleaned and/or fixed. We also needed one of our grandfather clocks repaired- which involved a home visit. We told Brian that we were moving by the end of July/1st of August and would like them boxed up as well. He said they don't do that but told us what to be careful with in the clocks. We went through every bit of information with Brian and he told us what needed to be done on each and an estimate of the cost for each. He filled out 5 little pink repair slips and my husband initialed each one, okaying the estimates. We agreed that we would wait for all 5 clocks to be finished so we could pick them up all at once. He told us Mike was the repair guy for grandfather clocks and the shop scheduled the time for Mike to come and repair it. About a week later one of the guys called to say one of the clocks was done. We told him we were waiting for all to be done before we were going to pick them up. We went through 3 more phone calls (with at least 2 other guys) in the following weeks, saying the same thing. Red Flag #1. The right hand did not know what the left hand was doing. And the calls stopped altogether. In the meantime, Mike came and had to remove the works from the grandfather clock and take them to the shop to repair. Red Flag #2. We were not told that it had to be taken back to the shop- we thought Mike would repair it at our home. Starting on July 20th, well over 5 weeks later, my husband called 3 times before reaching someone to see if we could pick up the clocks. Red flag #3. Our calls were not important enough to them to call us back even after getting 3 voicemails from the same customer. THAT is when we were told that the cuckoo clock was not repaired and the grandfather clock was not repaired. We were told THEN, on July 22nd, the 4th time my husband called, that cuckoo clocks take over 5 weeks to fix (but it was there for almost 8?) and grandfather clocks take months!!! Red flag #4. They're cheats. So, 2 of our 6 clocks are not fixed and we are moving in 2 days. Never once in all this did they apologize for leaving out some VERY important information (like repair times) and never once did we feel that they were dependable (4 phone calls?) or that our business OR our clocks were important to them (our natural wood cuckoo clock was returned to us with the chains for the weights wrapped around it with no protection for the wood). Like Jason T said back in June of 2017, they may know clocks but they know NOTHING about customer service. Read all the reviews and decide for yourself. But we would say don't give them your business. read more

Very professional. You can trust any clock here, they know what they're doing. I had an old school wall clock that was originally wired to the building it was in. I had them convert it to a battery mechanism with new dials so I could hang it on the wall. Worked out perfect! Also, I have brought my sons G-shock watch in for battery replacement and to help readjust the time during daylight savings since this watch is not easily adjusted. For this they usually have me out the door in no time. Prices seem fair for what I had done. They also have a lot of grandfather clocks and cuckoo clocks among a few other interesting pieces in house. Very knowledgable folks! read more

Never take your clock here for repair. They told me it would take 3 months for my cuckoo clock to be repaired. 2 weeks after the 3 month point I called not having heard from them and left a message. Remarkably they called 2 days before later telling me the clock was ready to be picked up. I paid $150 and they didn't even touch it as I discovered upon getting home. Complain? Go back and argue? Just more time wasted on incompetents. Avoid my mistake and stay far, far away. read more

Beware of Inflated Estimates Antigue clock suddenly began to run only ten minutes. Took to Suburban Clock for estimate. On delivery, I found a screw which had come out loose inside the case and this was pointed out to staff. Left clock for them to check over and provide estimate. A week later, was informed that clock needed a total rebuild and new main spring at cost of $400. Retrieved clock. Noticed that clock had not been checked prior to estimate (to check it the screw would have had to be reinstalled and it had not been touched). Installed screw myself in 1 minute. Clock now works great. This estimate for total rebuild and main spring was made without checking clock over and was not needed. As non clock makers, customers are quite vulnerable to up-charged estimates for work that is not needed -- so beware that this business would have done all this work on my clock which only needed a single screw put back in place. read more

This place employs smug and condescending people who apparently like to talk down to customers, and will not provide estimates until they have got your clock (the oldest trick in the book to spring over-inflated repair prices). They may know how to fix clocks, but they don't know ANYTHING about customer service! Had a really bad experience here and would not recommend them to anyone! read more

Got my Cuckoo clock back a week ago, after about a month. Get it home and it won't stay running more than a few minutes. Take it back, they had it a week. Picked up today, nothing wrong I'm told. Now that I figure it out at home, I have to keep my Cuckoo clock crooked on the wall to stay running. They had the opportunity to correct the crooked mechanism in the clock they replaced, but chose not to. I get to live with it now. read more

Disappointed first time customer. My husband purchased me a cuckoo clock as a Christmas gift. They took it off the wall and packaged it up. Christmas morning I discovered it was missing the pendulum and the decorative piece that sits across the top. We called and reported it. We were told they found the pendulum but not the decorative piece. When we took the clock back in, the worker confirmed that the pieces had been there prior to packing. While they tried to piece it together - color didn't match. They didn't have another one of similar style in our price range. We ended up returning the clock for refund. I'm surprised that they would be so careless packing up a customer purchase. read more
