We called for help. We no very little about propane and propane tanks. We've lived at this location for over thirteen years and never once used our propane heater. We are selling our home and needed our tank inspected. It's still halfway full, like the day we purchased our home. We have a wood burning stove and never actually used the propane heater. The receptionist who answered the phone told us to call the fire department. She informed us that they do not service leaking tanks. And continued speaking over me and interrupting my explanation. She told us it's a dangerous situation and refused to speak any further to us. She actually hung up on us after becoming argumentative and abusive. WOW!!! Unprofessional, rude, hostile and disrespectful. I'm not sure how she even has a job?! Apparently they must not need our business. We then called Ferrell Gas, they answered our call immediately. They were extremely helpful. Came right out to our home and straightened us all out. They saved the day, and kept our home in escrow. Lol, definitely not a dangerous situation for a professional company to handle. It's my recommendation to avoid Suburban Propane at all costs. They have no clue what they are doing. read more

I just moved into an apartment here in Lakeport. The complex already had propane service from these guys to heat the water. There is a lock on the meter, which has to be taken off by a technician on their end, in order to switch the propane on. They are telling no one can come out for 12 days since I first called. That's almost 2 weeks!! It's not like I'm trying to get cable hooked up. I feel like this is a basic thing people need to live. Anyone who can use a wrench could turn this switch on in 2 minutes. There was 5 people "working" in that office that could have drove down the block to unlock it. Maybe that girl could have been more empathetic to my situation but seemed like she really had to get Subway :/ I'm assuming they will read this and delay the process longer. Maybe not. I fell behind on my monthly payments. I called and spoke with a representative about payment arrangements and have been making them regularly. Five days ago I get a letter (dated 12 days earlier) saying my service is going to be cut off due to nonpayment. I call in a panic and am told not to worry. I got a call today saying that they ARE going to cut off my service. Nice move Suburban, why care about a 70 year old woman who will have no way to cook or take a warm shower. read more

If I could rate 0 I would. Charging 6.40 a gallon, I called to ask for their rates as a new customer they quoted me 3.31 . When I told them I was an actual customer they got very hostile and would not tell me what the rates were, just that I had a new customer rate from 2019 which was 2.41 that fluctuates with the market which is now 6.40 a gallon. My wife had us on a plan that we pay X amount a month even in the summer so you don't get huge bills in the winter. I called up to see how much we had in there storage fund. It was around $2500.00. First of all that's a huge amount. Then I asked how much we were paying per gal, she said $5.75. ARE YOU KIDDING, I said. That's almost double anywhere else. This is what you get for being a good customer. I asked why were not notified about the price increases and she said they don't have to do that. They just keep raising the price on their good paying customers. Buyer beware of the deceitfulness and dishonesty of this company. If you are already a customer and don't want to change I would be calling up ever other month to see what they are changing and give them the currant rate everywhere else and see if they will match it. Amerigas $2.81 Kemgas $3.12 Thompson/Eel River Fuels $3.14 Ferrellgas $3.51 Prices based on minimum 100 gallon delivery for existing (NOT new/1st fill) customers. Apples to apples. These are the only companies delivering propane on the Mendo Coast. Is Co-op Propane Buyers' Club worth it? You decide. Response from Co-op management - "We don't set the prices nor have any control over them. We try to keep our website info current." Generic AI commentary. According to Co-op website calculation, the current Suburban Buyers' Club price should be $2.55/gl. today, instead of $3.57. BTW, refinery price has been at .85¢/gl for a while now. Response from Suburban management - We have very large tanks. It takes five deliveries to fill them. We average out the cost of our 5 fills and that's how we come up with the Buyers' Club price. We have informed the Co-op numerous times that their website detail is inaccurate. You should feel lucky that you're on the Co-op discount, otherwise you'd be paying between $4 and $6/gl. The young lady that works in the office is very polite but stretches the truth. I called and asked what the price for propane was (for the lady I caretakers for) She told me it was less than $3.00 a gallon. I looked at her bill and last month it was over $7 and last month it was way over $6 a gallon. She is supposed to have fuel delivered every 3 weeks on Friday but that doesn't happen regularly. Last week they had a problem and couldn't make it. Did they call no she had to call them. They should have come on Monday but no they are waiting until Friday which makes it 4 weeks again. It has been cold, she is 93 years old and she is scared she is going to run out of fuel. For what they charge her she they should do right by her. Riddle me this? My mother and I both have suburban propane and we live within a mile of each. She was charged $2.48 a gal and we were charged $4.27 a gallon. How is this possible???? I smell a democrat in the wood pile! And on another note, every time we try to get our gallon tanks filled we always get the run around. I am a new customer and dont believe the cost of propane is triple what i pay in electric!! That seems to be what Im charged. I moved into my new home and discovered a smell coming from propane tank area. I first thought an animal had died but realized it was the tank. Told suburban to come out and they said that they fixed it. Next tank went fast, had to call them out... they said its fine. Next day my husband looked at fitting they tested and there were bubbles all over it. They refused to refund us cost for gas we lost. It cost over 600.00 each time we fill. We moved in in December and by April we paid them 1,700.00! Is this normal? We kept heater at 65 or off and take quick showers, even turned out everything with a pilot. Can it cost 600.00 every 2 months with heater off using it to cook and water heater? Crazy! Is there no regulations for these companies!! read more

I needed to fill my tank towards the end of December 2019. I called to order and they told be it would be $4.24 a gallon, which of course is ridiculous. I called a few other places and none were higher than 2.99 a gallon. So of course i switched. I wasn't going to have Suburban pick up my tank for about 2 weeks, so i would then be out of my 2 year contract. They did a random drive by my house and saw their empty tank sitting in front so they took it. Now i get a bill for them for $225 due to cancelling my contract, when in fact i didn't actually cancel. Screw you Suburban. And i hope all your current customers realize they are being screwed too and switch. read more

Can there be a negative star? We just bought our home and moved in 4 weeks ago. Came home last night to our propane shut and locked by this company even though we are not contracted with them. Thankfully we chose to go with another company. This action was the result of the previous owner 2 years ago not paying his bill. NOT US. Yet they refused to turn it on during a winter storm. NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm pretty positive the manager had his heat on and possibly took a shower but who knows. Their genius solution was to come turn it on if we decided to contract with them for our propane needs. What a joke, I'm still laughing. Stopped there to get two 7 gallons tanks filled. I could tell the ladies inside were not happy when I told them why was there? It was obvious they didn't want to fill the tanks. Which I thought was strange for a place that only sells propane? One lady said in a condescending voice that they would have to check my dates on the tanks. You could tell she was hoping they were old tanks so she wouldn't have to fill them. After she came out and inspected them and found they were brand new she told me somebody else would come out and fill them? I waited in the sun for 20 minutes in 100 degree heat and nobody came out. I have been using Suburban Propane in Lake County for as long as I have been living in Lake County. They have always been great to work with and because I have multiple accounts, was able to beat everyone's prices. Their service is prompt and courteous, I never ran out of gas. When I do have a problem with my systems, they quickly check them out and let me know. I do get a bit frustrated a bit when they don't answer the phone at Lakeport but the main switchboard does take my calls within reason and has been able to take care of my questions and requests. read more

I had some issues regarding my per gallon cost due to the fact that I am a Guild member and we have a group buy discount. I had been dealing with this for over a month. My local office was unsure how to handle it, they kept promising to call me back with a resolution and never did. I talked to Jennifer in Lakeport, she was able to apply the proper rate to my bill and I was able to pay immediately. I've been with this company over a decade, and expected what is termed "median" price per gal. for propane when I called to get the tank topped up in Dec. 2018, but the driver left a bill which charged me $5.65 a gal. I paid it, but began to wonder what other companies were charging in the same month. I checked on four others who serve my area (Cloverdale) and their propane was from $3.00 a gal to $3.80. Then I called the Suburban Lakeport office and complained and asked for a refund. But no refund came In the mail. So call again, but this time the automated phone system sent me to Suburban's New York office. I complained there, but no response such as a refund as a result. Then I sent a letter to Lakeport, and after a month or so, a follow up letter asking for a refund between the median price of the four companies I had checked on and what they charged me for the top up fill. No response. Obviously, any other company would be a better choice than the Lakeport franchise. It costs money to have a Propane tank set, and other preliminaries. One could ask to have the tank picked up and the remaining contents refunded, but they won't pay for another companies start up costs if they won't be fair and refund their overcharge. A citizen does not expect to have to ask as to the price of propane before requesting a fill. And I live only 1/4 mile from Hwy 101, not way out somewhere. There should be a law! read more

it has been a bumpy road trying to get gas form lakeport's suburban propane. first it is rare that they answer the phone. i was constantly bumped over to voicemail or to the new york office. alana made me wait for over a day to send me the application-when i finally got and sent it back, i wanted confirmation that it was received, but it took her one day to find out she did not get it. she was snotty and unhelpful, blaming me for not having a cel phone, instead of coping to the fact she dose not answer phone or follow through with what she said. it is below freezing in my county and to not have heat is serious. I now have the flu and still no gas- i was told, after i payed, that gas would delivered on wednesday-no phone call- no gas- when i finally got through on he phone- they said the driver had a problem- so i waited all day with no one even calling me- the manager said sorry when we spoke later- which was nice but wont keep you warm at night- not like a shower and a warm house. sub standard=Suburban Propane read more

Bought a house that had a Suburban propane tank in use, so was going to have it refilled...had been using the gas that remained in the tank from previous owners for three months with no leaks or problems. Upon calling Suburban (I'm new to a house with propane) found out I would need to enter a contract......and pay a initial new customer leak test fee of $75 (rip off). Time to check another supplier which I did......they also had a contract to sign, but cost of fuel was much cheaper and they did the new customer leak test at no charge.. This test was performed at the tank location and took less than five minutes. Management at the other propane company willing to work with you....also they came to your house with the contract instead of requiring you to show up at their office for the contract paperwork..
