Local customer service line is never answered during normal business hours. It will eventually route you to the national call center (very nice woman by the way) where they tell you they'll connect you with my local service provider. Once they too can't get a hold of anyone, they say they'll send an email requesting delivery. Problem is, we're nearly out of propane! One star rating only because their delivery driver is a super nice guy. They should promote him to be GM of the local branch. read more

Absolutely refuses to pay THEIR bills and when you bring up that you've sent multiple late notices they gaslight you say they wont pay because of supposed rudeness and tell you if you want your money to talk to their lawyers. My Parents first started business with them in the early 60's and in the past 30 years I have experienced nothing but price gouging, non response to concerns of leaking gas. The customer service person was annoyed and was not very professional, in this last encounter, as anticipated. After doing business with them for over 40 years, I have removed their tank and would not recommend them to anyone. This place is absolute GARBAGE. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!! They will rip you off every chance they get. We were a customer for YEARS before the 2017 fires. We're now living in travel trailers. We were using a temporary tank of theirs. When we no longer needed it we returned it to them with it STILL three quarters full. They took it and now FLAT REFUSE to refund us the gas they took back and want us to pay them almost $300. Not a chance. This "service provider" is terrible. It is difficult to contact reps; they are unresponsive and unprofessional when you finally reach them; they are more expensive than any other provider; and they don't even seem to care about the quality of their (old and leaking) equipment. They send an invoice that is immediately overdue (as in, it includes a late charge), which is perhaps the oddest billing practice I've seen. They seem to lose my credit card on file info every time. This is a rotten company. They delivered me 525 gallons and charged me $7.80 a gallon. I complained and they told me it was a computer error. I should have been charged $5.80. My neighbors are paying $4.30 a gallon from the two different companies they use. $1.44 more a gallon because they are such a great company! BULL SHIT!!!. McPhails services my area and has a top tier price of $4.36 a gallon. I told Suburban two weeks ago to cease the monthly payment withdrawal (Prepayment not post delivery) but yesterday the continued with a $425 withdrawal. Can't get the local office to answer the phone. National rep told me I had to do it online. Big surprise. There is no option to opt out. Stay away from this price gouging unethical company. 1 star is too good. ZERO STARS!!!! read more

If I could give this business 0.5 of a star I would, but alas, one whole star will have to do. Where to start? Well, I've encountered numerous problems with these guys, and evidently the place has gotten worse--let me explain. They say they'll be out on Wednesday, and are aware that the propane tank is down to 10%. They were supposed to be here on WEDNESDAY to fill the tank up, because well, when you live out in rural West County, you generally have to rely on gas for everything, and I do mean everything. They know this, and if you have one of their tanks, then they have you by the huevos (or so they think). Anyway, I digress. Wednesday rolls around, and the tank is getting even lower than before--under the 5% mark which means no showers, you can't cook anything on the stove top, or use anything that would use ANY gas. Thursday rolls around, and though a fill-up was CONFIRMED (key word here), and they PROMISED to be out on this day, no one comes. Okay, so now you're down to about 1%, and pilot lights start going out--and you think "Okay, I am now officially up S*** Creek!" After a hassle with the after hours people, you are finally able to get your tank filled up (let's hope). Is it just me, or do their business practices suck? First off, the customer is ALWAYS right. Secondly, if you give someone your word to do something, back it the f*** up, because there is simply no excuse for it. I think the management here needs a stern talking to, and the "Barbie twins" who man the reception need brain transplants or need a new job--something must get lost in translation, seeing as how they are the people you have to deal with refills, and all business related stuff. We have been with them for three years and last October I got the tank filled after the summer and they were charging me $7.10 a gallon. Just today, after calling them numerous times to get a delivery, after they had told me they would get one to me last week, they charged me $7.92 a gallon. If I could give Suburban no stars, I would. Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service - they really act as if they could not care less about you. Promise a fixed rate for two years, but they apparently "failed to note it in my file," so billed outrageous amounts which I had to call about each and every time. Final straw was a leak check which revealed no leak. Had to have a check 4 days later and another company found a leak, and so did the two independent plumbers I brought out (and had to pay for). Suburban refuses to acknowledge that they did not test correctly, and stated that a leak can occur 4 days later. Considering the state of the gas plumbing, which needed to be completely replaced, I find this incredibly hard to fathom. read more

Very nice people but one hand doesn't know or understand what the other is doing. Things happen and sometimes you're late or can't come as planned, but you need to let the customer know what's going on. Sometimes it's inconvenient and sometimes you take time off of work to wait for them in vein. For me, it happened one too many times. I think they could pull it together with strong management and a refresher course in customer service. Giving the customer who is waiting for an update on his late appointment and pair of cell phone numbers so he can call himself is not customer service. Again, they're nice and most of the techs know their stuff. I hope they read these reviews and recognize that something isn't right. read more

Suburban Propane has the worst service of all the propane providers. Go with someone else to avoid a lot of headache and heartache. Their prices are always higher than the others and they are rude. These guys saved us from an awful situation wherein Blue Star Gas allowed our gas to run out without a phone call and told me it was my responsibility to keep an eye on the gas (they have always called me before because of the electronic device on the tank that tells them when we're low). Blue Star then told me that I would have to wait five days for a refill because they were busy and would not come to Sebastopol until that time. I called Suburban Propane and was impressed by the great phone service I received from the Manager, Adam. He promised me a tank the following day and he showed up personally to install it on a rainy day at the time he said he would! He was very skillful in removing the old tank and installing a new one (it was tricky between trees and uphill). He was professional and friendly and made sure everything was running well prior to leaving. Their gas is also A LOT cheaper than Blue Star. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

Customer service is none existan at this place, try Napa Valley Petroleum they may be a little more expensive but even at their busiest during frost season they work to fill requests and won't leave you with out heat or fuel to power your agricultural equipment read more

Suburban Propane is over priced and my meter was unreadable. They did nothing about it after many complaints and I finally got rid of them for good. I would not use this company if they were the only propane company available. Finally changed to McPails. I now have great prices and excellent customer service. read more

I have had suburban propane for over 25 years. There is an option of paying monthly so you don't have to come up with a huge amount of money when you get your tanks filled. I went from monthly readings to just filling the tank when needed and was stupid enough to let it run out. They were out the next morning and filled the tank and lit all the pilot lights. I have found they to very helpful the entire time I have used them. read more

Bought property after fire. 2 Tanks on property, one Blue Gas, second Suburban. Asked EPA what to do, they replied contact the companies for pick up. Blue Gas did remove it fast, but in Suburban company looks like aliens working. Rep from Suburban asked me 1000 questions, and replied I don't have account with them. Sticker on the tank says Suburban property, but the lost person representing Suburban don't know what to do. Spend 30 minutes of my time with no results. WORST COMPANY EVER!!! read more

I usually never ever write reviews but I had to for this company. Suburban Propane is the worst excuse for a business I have ever dealt with. I was on level billing thinking that would be easier right? Easy payments same amount every month right? NO! Their records are so screwed up that I got a bill for double the amount of what it was supposed to be every month. Ended up having to call them every time I received my bill to get it straightened out. And the customer service well, not much help in the happy department either. It's as if they answer all questions with a middle finger. And their mistakes were always my fault? Two years of this hell and you better believe when we bought a new house with geothermal heat last month, I hopped, skipped, and jumped to my geothermal haven. This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with. They filled up my tank twice in 2 days by mistake and tried to charge me for it! After MONTHS of fighting they finally took the second fill off my bill but charged me hundreds in late fees! For their mistake!!! Tammy at the front desk is the most rude person i have ever encountered in any form of customer service. Everyone else working at this location has been respectful and helpful. The last time i came here tammy scolded me for bringing my tanks to the filling area so the man working didnt have to, saying i am not permitted in that area. Never been a problem before. This time, i unloaded 4 tanks from my car and walked into the office, only for tammy to tell me 'im not bringing your tanks back there so you can load them back in your car and drive them to the filling area.' I responded 'last time you said i wasnt allowed back there' to which she replied 'or we can not fill them up at alll' i asked for her full name and she said its best i just go get my tanks filled elsewhere, so i had to get her first name from the other lady who works there whos always been super nice. Ive reported her to the company so hopefuly she finds a job where she doesnt have to talk to people because shes quite offensive and seems to feel justified in bring so read more

I have been a customer of Suburban Propane since 1995. Not anymore. Their prices are considerably higher than other competitors. August 2013: Royal was 2.19 a gallon and Suburban was 3.54 I called several companies this past Dec. (Royal, Amerigas, Blue Star, McPhail and Heritage. Suburban was is consistently about $1.50 a gallon higher. Worst of all I was renting a tank in horrible shape that was over 35 years old. It was even missing a cap that prevented water from getting in the tank. When I asked them to pro rate my yearly rental ( 1.5 months into the year) they refused. These people are price gougers and do not care about the customer of 19 years. BTW you can get .15 cents off a gallon if you are a Farm Beau member with Royal (Associated Fuels). They will even work with you to fill your tank when prices are low in the late summer and other times. They will even transfer your propane over to the new tank for free. read more

We just changed from Proflame to Suburban. We considered Amerigas as well. Amerigas told us that the tanks would be too hard to replace, and delayed a long time. Then we called Suburban because it was recommended by two friends, one which had a difficult tank placement issue. The tank was delivered on time, easily installed and transferred. The same day the tank was filled, and the people were so nice. We now have a bigger tank so that we will be able to fill in the summer/fall at lower rates and not having to buy gas at the top dollar price in the middle of winter. We received very good customer service, a job well-done, a great introductory price, and a beautiful, new, leak-less tank. Thank you, Suburban. read more

My Aunt is renting one of this companys tanks....she has to pay whatever they want to charge her for the propane. Her tank is just about empty, they said they will fill it this Tuesday,,,,Auntie really can not afford $600 plus to have the tank filled. My husband and I decided to pay for her bill...I have called their number many times, always getting an answer machine that says she is either away from the phone or with a customer and will return my call as soon as she can. Four calls later and still NO return call....all we want to do is pay my Aunts bill...now how hard can that be! read more

The previous reviewer.was too kind. These are the same arrogant, got you by the balls types you find at oil companies and utilities. I took possession of a property they serviced and called them the day I took possession with all my information. They were supposed to read the meter immediately to bill usage of previous owner and didn't show up for 6weeks. Insisted on billing me for the whole amount used, because "they had no way of knowing what the previous use was". Then I came home one day to find they had removed the meter so I had no service. They said I had no account and to rehook it I' have to pay a huge deposit. So I went to a local company that understands service. read more

It's hard to believe that Suburban Propane is still in business given what their customers think of them. All I can think is that when people are trying to decide on a propane supplier, they don't look at reviews. I agree with what has been previously posted: Suburban Propane's prices are way out of line [meaning much more expensive] than other propane suppliers. Our neighbors tell us that they have been getting propane for $2.87 or $2.93 /gallon and I was just quoted a price of $4.74/gallon [due to the "winter" prices]. Keep in mind I got this quote in early September. This is about *40%* higher than other suppliers in Santa Rosa. This is not apt to change since it appears that the local Santa Rosa Suburban company reflects the national Suburban corporate policies [squeeze the most you can out of your customers since we are selling a product they NEED]. Good luck if you have to use them. read more

worst propane business we've dealt with. been w/ suburban since 2011 when propane was $2.88/gal., a contractual dollar amount for 1 yr.. after the 1st year their prices immediately rose to the mid $3 range, now in our final year of our 3 yr contract they've raised the price to $4.77 a gallon (at a local gas station propane is being sold for $2.75 a gallon.) other propane companies we've talked with are charging their customers at least $1.50/gallon less than suburban. we've also had an issue with suburban drivers neglecting to leave a bill after filling the tank, not long after we get a late notice in the mail which was our first indication that the tank was even serviced. we do not see suburban as a customer friendly company, and would not recommend them for any reason. read more
