Often, it's how a company reacts to a mistake that makes all the difference. There was a bit of a mix up with my tank due to the the previous owners of my home not canceling their service. And I suddenly found myself without a tank. Needless to say I was not happy. But, to their everlasting credit, the gals and guys at this branch of Suburban Propane were very VERY apologetic. And, more importantly, they immediately bent over backwards to correct the mistake. They were beyond professional, calm, and precise. And everything turned out a-okay. Hey. We all make mistakes. Right? But what's important is these guys were 100% focused on fixing the situation, to my satisfaction. What impressed me the most was that I'm a small fry. Definitely not a "high value" customer for them (I probably won't use more than a tank a season), but they treated me with respect. The golden rule. They treated me how they would want to be treated if the situation were reversed. That's so rare these days. I've shopped around a bit, too, and these guys seem very competitive on the $$$ for a propane delivery service. So the price is definitely good for me. But it's the commitment to treating customers well, no matter how big or small, that made me write this review. Bravo guys. Bravo. read more

Their overpricing is ridiculous. They charged me $5.99 per gallon when SOS propane charges me $1.99 per gallon. I overpaid in 1 year over $13,000 for Suburban Propane. Do not use them. read more

The local branch handles customs accounts on a personal level. The office is there to ensure customer satisfaction. Hey will work with you with pricing and have programs to secure competitive pricing and guarantee no price hikes under such programs., unlike other companies. This issue was promptly resolved today 11/21/2024. Both tanks were removed. For over 7 years, the Suburban Propane Mt. Kisco office has refused to pickup two large propane tanks that they abandoned here after the building they serviced was demolished. The tanks have been sitting outside ever since, and have started to rust and deteriorate. It's only a matter of time before these tanks start leaking. They are a hazard to the families and children who live nearby, as well as first responders who may be needed in case of an emergency. I've lost count of how many times I've called and how many different people I've spoken to about this issue. Always the same outcome. A date is set for the tank removal, the date comes and goes, they stop returning my calls. On 10/16 I called and spoke to the office manager. She made an appointment to have the tanks picked up on 11/19 at 2:00pm. Since they never showed up, I called in the afternoon to see what was going on with the pick up. She was gone for the day so I left a message with the gentleman who answered the phone. She didn't call me today, so I left another message with the same gentleman. These tanks are nearly full. They are a disaster waiting to happen. Suburban Propane's response to this situation is nothing short of negligent. read more

Yet again these foul swines shut off my daughter's tanks without warning and are now demanding payment for "leak tests"! Furthermore--they "Don't do partial fills" so she is forced to pay over $1300.00 for propane she will not use! Vile, vile vipers these people are. I've been a customer of Suburban for a little over 2 and a half years. Aside from having to occasionally call to ensure that I was being billed at fair market rates, the service was routine and predictable. The reason that I am currently rating them at one star is because I made the decision to convert to natural gas this year and that transition was completed in October. Suburban was informed prior to and after the change so that they could make arrangements to retrieve their equipment. Today is December 28th. Even with confirmed appointments, they have yet to remove the tank from the premises. A shame that they chose to disregard customer service at the tail end of the relationship. This company is NOT customer oriented and, given the chance, will abuse you. I stayed home a day for them to switch out a tank that had reached its expiry date. At the last minute they called to cancel; it was only by explaing how completely unacceptable that was that they sent someone. He didn't complete the work and promised to come back first thing in the morning to finish. (Mind you, we have no hot water or stove in the meantime.) It's now the next day several hours after he was supposed to come and no one is here. It is especially aggravating because our last experience w/ them was that they skipped our delivery--"I guess we just missed it," said the customer service rep--leaving us w/out propane for a day. Suburban Propane is an awful horrible completely morally void company. My second day in my new home they sent a man who didn't go to my door to talk to me, but instead walked on my property to lock MY propane tank. When I (fearfully and vulnerably) approached the stranger on my property he told me the only way for him to not lock and eventually take my propane tank was for me to sign a three year contract. The audacity. I pleaded with the company to allow me time to absorb what they were saying and they reluctantly, as if they we're doing me a favor, told me I had until Tuesday to decide about signing their three year contract. It took me all of five minutes to do my due diligence and learn the tank belonged to me. Shame on these people. I called them and while I was suspicious that they knew it was mine, I kindly explained that I believed the tank to be mine but that I would of course review/listen to any facts they had which backed up their claim that he tank was theirs. Melissa, their employee, told us she would get "right back" to us. They went radio silent. This morning, three weeks later I was making breakfast for my three young children and realized my propane was cut off. The invasive, illegal awful, soul-less morons at Suburban sent someone yesterday, when I was not home, to lock MY tank. I felt violated. How dare they come onto my property like thieves in the night. Why didn't Melissa call me back? How could someone just come onto MY property. I called suburban and they had no problem telling me "yes we locked it" finally a manager intervened, did the due diligence he should have done weeks ago, only to call me back after I wasted the morning with no propane and tied to the phone resolving this to say "yes mam, the tank DOES being to you". This company is dangerous, manipulative and awful, just awful. I could have easily signed a three year contract which would have had me paying for propane and a rental fee for a tank that belongs to me. Shame on them. I have happily signed up with Durkin oil, they have been kind, responsive, thoughtful and considerate without taking a penny from me, just being decent and helpful during an incredibly stressful time. Would give negative stars if I could. Their customer service is horrendous. THEY screwed up and didn't bill me timely. Once they sent me a HUGE bill I spoke to them and asked to split the bill into 2 payments. They obliged and never mentioned that would suspend my delivery service. When we called to find out whey we didn't get a delivery in over a month they told us because we had a balance on the account even though this was an agreed deal. If we wanted a propane delivery asap we had to agree to pay off the rest of the account right then and there on the phone with a credit card and then PAY AN EXTRA $100 TO EXPEDITE SERVICE if we didn't want it to take 7-10 days for delivery. I am so disgusted with their service. I have put up with their less than great service for years but this was the icing on the moldy cake. Oh did I mention we've been customers for over 10 years. Nice way to treat loyal customers. This customer won't be their customer for long once I find another company. read more
