Carpenter and Smith has been the gift that just keeps giving. 5 months after cancelling with them due to poor customer service as well as technical service. 12 services calls to fix the issue that was never fixed.... And I just found out that they missed another mark that I told them about but they denied it being an issue. Please see my reviews to better understand how each technician as well as supervisor contradict another over issues all at the cost of my boiler not working properly or left with poor parts that can cause damage to it. As well, matters brought to their attention are never a big deal until they actually become one and then it always was a big deal. The great snafu of October 2024, started with the technician swearing my circulator needed to be replaced because it was old.... Nope, they wired my zones valves wrong. They replaced it any way and it made an awful noise every time it ran. I brought this to their attention. It was not a big deal. Every service call after that, I told them my circulator never sounded like that. They told me it was normal. 5 months later. Guess what, my Aquastat needed to be replaced and it had needed to be replaced for some time. It had been going bad. You know how you can tell, noises. The noise was it going bad. Carpenter and Smith misdiagnosed my whole system and almost created even more costly issues for me. A different HVAC company came out and have since remedy the destruction that Carpenter and Smith did to my boiler. Every call with C & S, I mentioned noises and nuances the boiler started to make after they replaced my zone valves and every time each technician told me they weren't issues. Now my circulator runs without making noises. Now my heat shuts off appropriately. Now the system is running more efficiently. Shame on you, Carpenter and Smith.

When I called this morning at 8:00 am they told me they could not get yo me till after Thursday which is the day after Christmas, even though they knew I was at 1 percent. The operator Norman was rude and inconsiderate. The sheer disregard for me as a 14 year customer, and the arrogance of the staff to be rude in a crisis to a customer was disrespectful and egregious. The management should be ashamed of this type of interaction and misuse of loyal customers. I highly recommend that you avoid this company.

However, when I started comparing what we were being charged with receipts from the home's previous owner, the rates were higher than expected. When I called to negotiate with CES, they were uncooperative and failed to even call me back several times. No response to emails, either. Combine that with all manner of absurd policies and fees, and I had enough. Another local business, Sullivan County Septic, recommended I take a look at Van Etten Oil (VEO), so I sent an email and got a personal reply from Eli Van Etten, who quoted me a great rate for LP, along with a no-nonsense price to get a new tank installed and ready to go. I was already being treated better than CES had been so I leapt at the opportunity. On installation day, super friendly Mike showed up and put the new tank in, moved the old tank to the perfect out-of-the-way spot in the yard so it could wait for CES to pick it up, then safety checked all my gas appliances and made a couple of simple recommendations that were much appreciated. On top of everything else, they do algorithmic forecasts of your use needs so that the tank gets filled without you having to remember to call, and the price is better, even if you don't buy a ton of gas from them. Win, win win.

VEO has to be the worse company I have ever dealt with, they were incompetent from day one. They…read moredidn't show up when they were supposed to. They installed the gas line wrong and my contractor who was remodeling the kitchen had to fix it. They were supposed to run a line to the gas grill and never did. THEY installed the gas tank next to the A/C condenser (which were there before the gas tank) then 2 years later wanted to charge us over $300.00 to move the tank. Terrible service and incompetent.
