Reporting this company to federal trade commission for Fraud. Got a bill that included late charges. Never received the initial bill which they claim was left on the door. We were outside working in the yard and suburban truck did not come. I checked the ring camera and no one approached our door and to leave the bill. Called the local number. Lady was very rude and would not shut up to listen to the issue and then she hung up on us. Not only did they try to scam a late charge but also a transportation fee when they did not sho up. I wish I could get rid of this company. I have not used any propane in about 20 years . However the scam is they will charge you to remove the tank 1000. drain off the gas and you dont get any credit for the gas and they leave a hole which you need to get filled in. read more

Sales people very quick to get you to sign and pay. 17 phone calls to get them to my house and 3 trips to get it installed. I have been a Suburban Propane (Tampa) customer for over 14 years. Their customer service has been excellent. In the process of having my tile roof replaced I was advised that the gas cap was rusted and needed a plumber to replace it. I contacted many plumbers and found they did not replace gas caps on roofs. Those that did were extremely expensive. A few plumbers suggested I contact my gas company. So, I contacted Suburban Propane and asked for Casandra. She is my first choice as I always found her to be knowledgeable, courteous and always helpful. She put me in contact with Operations Manager Robert. I explained my situation and he said, "Let me see what I can do." Been trying to add a disconnect hose for over two weeks. The work has been rescheduled multiple times. They will not help you by calling ahead or providing updates so you can take time off of work to be home. Customer service leaves alot to be desired. Avoid this business at all costs! Previous owners of our house (which we've had for over a year) had an underground propane tank that was serviced by them. Previous owners cancelled account when they moved out. Never told us it existed. Fast forward 1.2 years and this company sent two backhoes to dig up my yard to retrieve the tank without bothering to contact us in any way. I have been a Suburban Propane customer for more than 25 years. Their customer service is excellent. I recently had occasion to go into the office with a concern I had with my usage. Sherry greeted me with politeness and a friendly face and promptly connected me (in person) with Tom, the service manager. He listened attentively to my concerns about my usage and suggested that perhaps the problem was an issue with the installation of my tankless water heater. He arranged for Suburban to make a service call to inspect my entire system. However, that afternoon I called the company that installed the water heater and, Tom was right, the water heater had not been converted from natural gas to propane when it was installed, which resulted in a spike in my usage. read more

We scheduled with them to come and do a safety check on our propane equipment. The customer service told me that they will call you a day before to let you know what time they'll come. the night before I got a call that the technician will come tomorrow but no time frame. the next day I called and asked what time the tech will be there and the customer service said he comes when he can and there is no specific time or time frame. So we waited all day, but no technician showed up and after a week we still haven't received service or a phone call to reschedule. the customer service is extremely unhelpful and rude. read more

I will start with the positive, the person I spoke with this morning was polite and pleasant and did help within the limits that he could. NOW the bad...they started charging me $7.19/gallon for propane. It is almost 3 times the national average and, at best, still twice the local published index rate. They claimed it was just the computer changing the price and not intentional. Suburban Propane could probably afford a "computer" that doesn't rip people off. So sad that the options in the Propane world are so limited. This company has a multi-decade history of sub-par satisfaction but continues to grow. If I could give 0 starts I would. For the past 3 weeks we have been back and forth with the Tampa office and their technicians. ZERO communication between the two which has had us waiting 3 WEEKS for propane. During these 3 weeks spring break has passed where the kids couldn't use the pool - family came down from Ohio unable to grill out / enjoy our hot tub- now this week when I had to literally CHASE THEM DOWN for my sons birthday party which is TODAY! Not only have we not had our tanks filled but on 3 separate occasions I am waiting all day checking my cameras to see if they ever show up. Horrible Customer Service ! Suburban Propane Company came out 1-24 and put 50 gallons of propane in my 80 gallon Tank per my bill and charged me $304.76 which I paid. They came out a gain 3-7 and said they put 80 plus gallons in my tank and charged me $685.82 . The last time I received gas in my tank prior to January 2024 was 2019 as I only use for my cook top. I did not request the fill and am not on a schedule to fill. I called and said it is impossible for me to use that much gas and why did they fill it. They agreed to reduce my second fill by the $304.76. as they should not have come out again, and they did not add 80 plus gallons of propane on 3-7. If you can use natural gas do . Suburban Propane is not an honest company and they unfortunately are the only option (Monopoly) in my area. Customer satisfaction or service is not a priority for Suburban Propane. I now have a bill for fuel I did not request and honestly don't believe I received . read more

We called for a delivery to fill our tank before Hurricane Ian. We called last week when Ian was just a blink on the horizon. Here it is with the storm due to hit Tampa tomorrow and no gas. Someone told us we called to cancel but we had not. I have breathing issues so cannot tolerate humidity and because we have invested in a whole house generator have made no plans to evacuate. Now it's too late. If if makes an problem for me, it will be a problem for them. This is totally unacceptable. We called yesterday and twice today but the local office closed so they say. We requested that Suburban not fill our tank until we requested them to do so since we use very little gas. The last time they filled it it was four years ago. They came yesterday and filled out without our permission. When we called they said we HAD to have it filled every year and in addition they now have an additional $50 charge over and above the gas and tank rental. The employee could not really say why except deliver fee which is already on the bill. So, now we HAVE to buy something we do not want and pay an additional $50 for nothing. Suburban is terrible. We were from countryside until they took over. Ran out of propane twice and so many excuses. We requested a 500 gallon tank for a generator and they were to sorry to upgrade us, stating they couldn't come out until a month later to access the tank. We changed to Northside whom came right away and charged a dollar cheaper. Suburban charged some bs close out fee of $95 and to pump it out $48.96. The tank sat on our property 2 weeks before they picked it up stating they didn't have any trucks running in the area. Why would they give up a good business offer? This company is the absolute worst! I had Countryside Propane for 4 years before they sold to Suburban and they were great... ever since Suburban took over I have run out of propane on multiple occasions. There have been numerous excuses given as to why but somehow always my fault. I have since changed to a much more frequent delivery schedule and they still don't come on time and now when I am low I am being told since I haven't run out and it's a Sunday they will charge me a $195 fee... so basically run out and then we will deliver for no additional fee. We have been trying to use their service since 11/09/21, when they so kindly took a large down payment. Service technicians have shown up once, on 01/14/22, then didn't pass the County Inspection days later. We hurriedly got a plumber to get all of the preparations complete on our end, as we assumed they'd return promptly to address the issue and complete our hook up, but that has not been the case. They invoiced us on 01/20/22 for the FULL AMOUNT, no down payment reflected, showing DUE UPON RECEIPT, despite the fact that we still have NOTHING hooked up. We had previously received STATEMENTS showing $0 due, as well as reflecting the credit for the amount paid. Interesting how this one was an INVOICE, despite a phone call (in response to our complaint) stating it was not a bill. What is it then? We were told last week that 02/07 we would have someone here. We waited and no one showed so we called around 3pm to make sure we were on the right day and were told yes, someone would be here. We got an email at 4:11pm stating a technician was on the way. It is now 6:37pm, no one has shown up. This customer service is the absolute worst and the billing isn't any better. read more

They set appointments, don't show up, then when you call you get a national call center that says they will pass your message on and they will call you back. Then no one ever calls back. We had been a Suburban Propane customer prior to our retirement in the Tampa area. Chose to stay with them when we converted from electric to propane for cooking. That was 4years ago. Our desire to convert to a propane on demand whole house water heater has quite frankly been a nightmare. Weeks to get a proposal! Installation date set, but we had questions related to needed clearances for the electrical outlet our electrician was doing. Call after call after call after call....... could not get a straight answer, never received a call from their estimator or service department rep. Their customer service rep was worthless. Their astronomical phone wait times are horrendous. Learned after the installers were on site that they do not do the plumbing, only the connection. They did not pull a permit either. After having the electrician and plumber complete their work Suburban was notified and their customer service rep advised we were scheduled for final install today. My plumbers are here to complete the electric water heater removal and guess who's not here. You've got it.....Suburban Propane! 33 minutes almost all on hold and told we have no notes that I called. We can be there in two days. What! Sorry our schedule is full and that's the best we can do! Hopefully the install will be completed two days from now. Lesson learned? They sold an appliance, but didn't have the capacity or clarity in their proposal to get the job done properly and with their custom in mind. The propane industry is not regulated by the state utilities commission and this company ignores and abuses their customers and operates largely unchecked. They are liars and thieves. I requested Suburban NOT deliver propane until I called them knowing I would not be living in my home for several years. They ignored my request and delivered 80 gallons $1192 and left me the bill. I discovered the bill waiting for me months later when I did a stop-by visit to my home. I protested the delivery and they claimed the law dictates they deliver once a year. I researched it and there is no such law and we did not have a contract. They demanded payment. I chose to send regular payments monthly to avoid collections and paid every month as committed for a year, they accepted my payments but disconnected the line from my tank after 14 months. I did not care, I was not living in my home. I continued to make payments and a few months later on a stop by visit, discovered they had removed the tank from the property, I suspended payments and stopped by Suburban Propane Tampa to speak to them in person. I was told by the manager that when I returned to my home, call and they would restore the tank full. A few months later I returned to my home and called to have my service restored. Suburban refused saying the tank was empty. If I was not living in my home, how was the tank empty. I paid almost $1200 for nothing. This company is not trust worthy and are not ethical business people. They lied to me repeatedly and will do the same thing to you.
