Ordered online 7/14/2018. Online app clearly shows the tuna salad/salad with two scoops of tuna salad on top of the actual bed of greens. I did not order a dressing to be placed on the salad because I have my own to use at home. What I got was quite a surprise. The tuna salad had been mixed in with all the greens. The lettuce had been chopped to an almost liquified state. Was unable to distinguish if all the vegetables I had ordered were actually in the salad. Mind you, I have had the salad from the store before and the tuna salad was never mixed in with the greens. Other meats yes, tuna salad no. When I called the store the young lady who answered said she was the one who made the salad. Rudely said she was sorry but that was how she had been taught to make it and if I had a problem with it I could call the manager on Monday. No manager was available on that day, and their phone number could not be given out. My phone has a recorder on and the giggle she had was dumbfounding to say the least. Usually if one is getting a complaint you hear a tone of concern. Monday 7/16 arrived. Called the store. It was rush hour for them, left number. Received a call back from Manager. After speaking with her, I soon realized where the poor customer service derives from. The manager clearly stated that she had no idea about the online ordering system pictures. Hmmmm. Where I come from in order to be a manager of something you must virtually know everything about the business and all aspects of how items are represented, and thus prepared. The manager went on to explain that she had several new people working for her. So who is responsible for training them. She then went on to explain that they mix all meats in the salads. Well tuna salad is a salad within itself and should never be mixed into the greens unless it is requested. It was not. Finally, she asked if I wanted them to make another salad. The bitter taste that had came to my mouth just from speaking to her was very disconcerting. I knew I really didn't want to eat anything from that store ever again. Many people, including me are on limited incomes. If we show trust in you by frequenting your establishment we are showing loyalty to you, the product you sell, and to the employees you hire. We simply want what we order prepared correctly, and if it isn't for it to be corrected. You never know who we are so each person who enters your store either in person, online, or by phone should be treated with respect. I have had multiple awesome experiences at this location in the past, but this one horrible experience with undertrained management and staff will prevent me from ever spending another dollar there. Maybe a visit from someone at Visions Investments is needed to teach the management and staff how to bring in more dollars to support their salaries and wages is in order, rather than giving them cause to go elsewhere to spend their money. Time to pick another company's gift cards to spend the money on for the 4X fuel points!

Our neighbor is cat-sitting for us and suggested Salvatori's as a good place for Italian, and she was so right! It's not a big space and you may have a short wait for a table, but so worth it. The ambiance is casual and family-oriented, not too noisy even when full, and (best of all) there's No TVs. Heavenly! I had the pasta Apuli (minus the red pepper flakes), she had the Spaghetti Olio and we split a bruchetta and a cannoli for a to-go dessert. The portions are so large, we needed to-go boxes for both dinners even though we ordered the half sizes! Generous doesn't begin to describe this place. Our server was warm and attentive without 'hovering' and the host stopped by to ensure all's well. We're coming back through town on Monday and I think we'll be back again!

About two weeks ago, visiting Auburn for work, I ordered a small Supreme thin-crust pizza from Salvatori's and brought it back to my hotel. The pizza itself was very tasty, but the crust was extremely soft and floppy--so much so that it couldn't support the toppings. When I picked up a slice, the toppings basically slid right off the bottom. The crust had apparently decided its job was simply to provide transportation from the kitchen to the box. The flavor was good, though, so afterward I called the restaurant simply to offer some constructive feedback. I explained that I thought the pizza had been pulled from the oven too early and wasn't fully cooked. The young lady took my feedback in stride and thanked me. This week, I decided to give Salvatori's another try and ordered the exact same pizza: small Supreme, thin crust. But this time I was very specific. I asked for the crust to be very crispy and told them I was perfectly fine with the cheese getting browned. At the end of the call, they confirmed, "So you want it well done?" I said yes. Perfect. We were speaking the same pizza language. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived, however, the pizza wasn't ready. After waiting a few minutes, one staff member asked another if they had taken the order for the "10-inch carryout pizza"--a.k.a. my pizza--and there seemed to be a little scrambling. The manager came right up and explained that they were "late" getting my pizza in. I said no problem. Things happen. I waited another 15-20 minutes. When the pizza finally came out, I watched an employee hand it over to the woman at the counter. She opened the box, looked at the pizza, paused for a good five seconds, slowly closed the lid, turned around, faced me and said: "Sir, your pizza is ready." That five-second pause should probably have been my warning. To their credit, they were very nice about the delay and gave me a piece of cheesecake at no charge. I had intended to pay for it, but they insisted because of the inconvenience, which I genuinely appreciated. Here's where my pending disappointment became actual disappointment. I opened the box. It looked almost exactly like the pizza from two weeks earlier. Definitely not well done. Definitely not crispy. Once again, the crust was soft and floppy. Apparently, "well done" and I have a different definition than Salvatori's oven does. At that point, the pizza was already cut, I had already waited the extra time, and I really didn't want to hand it back and ask them to put it in the oven for another 10 minutes just to get the crispy crust I had specifically requested. I hate leaving anything less than a five-star review, especially because the pizza actually tastes good and the staff were friendly. But after specifically calling about the issue after my first experience, then giving them another chance and being extremely clear about how I wanted the second pizza cooked, it was disappointing to receive essentially the same result. The missed order and extra wait wouldn't have bothered me much by themselves. Things happen, and the complimentary cheesecake was a thoughtful gesture that I appreciated. But when a customer specifically requests a pizza "well done," the restaurant confirms that request, and the pizza still comes out noticeably underdone, that's harder to overlook. I wanted crispy. I got floppy. Twice. Two pizzas, one review--and unfortunately, the same crust both times. I'm just not sure there will be a third. I'm rooting for you Salvatori's, I really am, but man-o-man.

Mimi's Retreat (Auburn, on the square) - dinning "retreat" during the Auburn Fair…read more Here is another one of our family traditions. We enjoy going to the Auburn Free Fall Fair. Looking at the 4-H animals, walking through the commercial tent, getting donuts, people watching and taking in the food vendor sights/smells are part of that experience. We also like to grab a bite to eat while there. However, I'm just not interested in fighting the lines to get an expensive corn dog, sirloin tip and/or fish sandwich....and then having no where to sit, relax and eat our selections. Enter Mimi's Retreat! Mimi's Retreat is small community bar that is located on the south side of the square - so they are right in the middle of the action! They are always open during the fair and tend to have fewer customers than normal. This makes them a great choice to duck into to get a good meal, at a pretty good price and sit & relax away from the crowds. Mimi's has been a part of the Auburn scene for as long as I can remember. They are best described as a community bar. They have some TV's for sports viewing. The attractive looking bar will seat about 10 people. There are less than modern tables to seat about another 40 patrons. Mimi's is set in an old building. They have stayed true to the older feel in terms of wood work, brick and vintage feel. The decor mainly features bar modern day product signs and some historic Auburn pictures. The kitchen is easily viewed as you walk in the door. The place is rather comfortable and inviting. The staff here is welcoming and friendly. Mimi's service may not be the most attentive when the bar is busy - just be aware. The menu is pretty simple and moderately priced. They have the typical bar food with a few add-ons that give them a little boarder touch including non-bar food daily specials. I can't speak for bar service. It seems like they hustle the best they can. Food tends to come out at a decent pace - depending on the crowd. Mimi's is definitely a no-frills kind of place as the non-alcohol drinks are served in a Toby Keith style red Solo cup. Now onto the food. We started with the sweet potato fries. The fries are thin and fried to a moderate crisp - like you would expect, not mushy. The fry has a nice bold sweet potato taste. They aren't very oily. The real treat is the homemade Hawaiian pineapple dipping sauce. It is smooth, thick and sweet. You literally can taste the refreshing Hawaiian flavors which really bring out the bolder sweet potato taste. Definitely a must try! The blacken chicken Caesar wrap is very tasty. The chicken is very moist and nicely grilled. The mild tasting Caesar dressing is applied in moderation and helps pull all the flavors together. Note: this $8 item doesn't come with a side, that is extra. The Cole slaw is homemade and outstanding. It includes white and purple cabbage. Onions, carrots and red peppers are apart of this fresh tasting side. The Cole slaw is mayo based. However, the mayo is very lightly applied and it has a hint of vinegar flavoring - the best of both style Cole slaws. The fish dinner has seven medium pieces for $14.99. It comes with French fries and one side. The French fries were a lot like the sweet potato fries in terms of cut, firmness and oiliness - fairly good. The fish pieces tasted fresh-ish. No fishy or frozen tastes. The meat was soft, tender and slightly flaky. The breading is rather thin. It is also rather plain to taste - unlike a Fish of Stroh type fillet. The tarter sauce has a heavier mayo taste with a mild amount of pickle/tartar flavoring. It definitely isn't sweet or heavier on relish like I like it. Overall...Mimi's makes a good place to pick up a meal regardless of the time of year. Give them a try sometime when you are in Auburn.

Our server was friendly and took our orders promptly. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich, I ordered the breaded tenderloin, and we shared fries. The sandwiches were good, but the fries were a bit disappointing--very small portion for nearly $5 extra. They were thin, McDonald's-style fries. The bar wasn't busy during our visit, with only a couple tables occupied at a time. Staff seemed to know most guests personally, greeting them with hugs. The music was loud, which may be fun for some, but felt a little overwhelming to us. The biggest issue was the restrooms, which had a very strong odor that made the experience unpleasant. Overall, the food itself was decent, but the portion sizes, loud atmosphere, and restroom cleanliness kept it from being a great visit.

Mad Anthony's Auburn Tap Room - dinning & relaxing downtown Auburn, Indiana…read more You can find Mad Anthony's just off the north side of the square in Auburn. It is set in an older building where they have kept the unique brickwork and history apart of the decor - nicely done! There is street parking available...though you may have to hunt for it. The serving team was friendly and helpful on this trip. Mad Anthony's has a large and varied menu. Plenty of choices for most dinners. I can not comment on the beer selections as this isn't my expertise. We started with the cheese curds which were excellent. The curd had a thick breading whose seasoning really accented the cheese and oil tastes. It comes off light and slightly crunchy. The cheese curd was simply delicious. It was slightly gooey and just under a shade under temperature hot. The marinara sauce was thick and heavy on the tomato taste. This made a good complement to the cheese flavor. Definitely give this a try! We also tried the fried pickles. The pickle was a very thin "stick" of dill pickle spear. It has a pretty good tart taste. However, I would prefer a thicker pickle and more bold pickle taste. The pickle was wrapped in a thicker breading that differed from the cheese curd. This breading was more corn meal based and textured. It comes off a little tougher and retains the oil taste more. The dill sauce was really thick, colder and somewhat difficult to dip into. Overall a nice appetizer with a different flare. I've been craving a deep dish pizza and just happened to get one at Mad Anthony's in Auburn. MA has about 8 different deep dish pizzas and 10 flatbread type pizzas to choose from. I went with the medium Politician deep dish pizza for $21. The crust on the edges of the pizza came out a bit tough and crunchy. The interior was nice and soft. The edge crust had a bit of a buttery flavor. The sauce was plentiful and sweet. They use plum Roma tomatoes in the sauce. This gives is a richer tomato taste and zing. It also enhances the moistness of the pizza while keeping the topping thick. The toppings were piled high and thick - as you would expect. There was plenty of fresh cheese to give you that pull apart stretch. The vegetable toppings were fresh and had a bit of crunch to them. The meat was layered nicely and plentiful. The pepperoni and sauce had a nice meat flavor that completed the taste pallet. Overall I thought this was a good pizza. I'm sure there are places that do deep dish even better. A member of our party ordered one of the flatbread pizzas. This looked delicious as well.
