Mad Anthony's Auburn Tap Room - dinning & relaxing downtown Auburn, Indiana You can find Mad Anthony's just off the north side of the square in Auburn. It is set in an older building where they have kept the unique brickwork and history apart of the decor - nicely done! There is street parking available...though you may have to hunt for it. The serving team was friendly and helpful on this trip. Mad Anthony's has a large and varied menu. Plenty of choices for most dinners. I can not comment on the beer selections as this isn't my expertise. We started with the cheese curds which were excellent. The curd had a thick breading whose seasoning really accented the cheese and oil tastes. It comes off light and slightly crunchy. The cheese curd was simply delicious. It was slightly gooey and just under a shade under temperature hot. The marinara sauce was thick and heavy on the tomato taste. This made a good complement to the cheese flavor. Definitely give this a try! We also tried the fried pickles. The pickle was a very thin "stick" of dill pickle spear. It has a pretty good tart taste. However, I would prefer a thicker pickle and more bold pickle taste. The pickle was wrapped in a thicker breading that differed from the cheese curd. This breading was more corn meal based and textured. It comes off a little tougher and retains the oil taste more. The dill sauce was really thick, colder and somewhat difficult to dip into. Overall a nice appetizer with a different flare. I've been craving a deep dish pizza and just happened to get one at Mad Anthony's in Auburn. MA has about 8 different deep dish pizzas and 10 flatbread type pizzas to choose from. I went with the medium Politician deep dish pizza for $21. The crust on the edges of the pizza came out a bit tough and crunchy. The interior was nice and soft. The edge crust had a bit of a buttery flavor. The sauce was plentiful and sweet. They use plum Roma tomatoes in the sauce. This gives is a richer tomato taste and zing. It also enhances the moistness of the pizza while keeping the topping thick. The toppings were piled high and thick - as you would expect. There was plenty of fresh cheese to give you that pull apart stretch. The vegetable toppings were fresh and had a bit of crunch to them. The meat was layered nicely and plentiful. The pepperoni and sauce had a nice meat flavor that completed the taste pallet. Overall I thought this was a good pizza. I'm sure there are places that do deep dish even better. A member of our party ordered one of the flatbread pizzas. This looked delicious as well. read more

This is a very cute part of Auburn Indiana. There is a painted wall outside where you can take pictures. The street crosswalk is decorated with flowers. We thought the scotch eggs were interesting but probably would not order them again. My daughter enjoyed the scooby snacks. We both were crazy about the cheese curds!!! The best drink was the raspberry lemon drop martini!!!! I also tried a BlackBerry martini but the person making it was "learning," and I wasn't that thrilled. My daughter really liked her bacon jam burger. I thought my frisco melt was just okay. We got a politician deep dish Pizza. The crust was a little hard like cardboard, but the toppings were good. We have taken over the years to eat at Mad Anthony's after church. I tried the Baja Bowl for the first time - excellent!! The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the rice soft, and the red onion Crisp. We had a to go order tonight. The food is good. I ordered a breaded tenderloin sandwich with extra onion and raw onion ($0.50) extra for a slice. When I got home and got my sandwich out of the container, checked to see if they had the order correct. I did get onion, I got 3 rings of a raw onion slice!!! For being charged $0.50 for raw onion, I was severely disappointed with my sandwich. This is the second time I have ordered this sandwich and both times I have had the same issue. I thought this place was cool. We came on the early side of dinner. We were promptly greeted and sat at a booth up by the bar. The menu is pretty varied. There is a good selection of cocktails, beer, and wine. The starter menu was exciting to us - scotch eggs!! We ordered them and were super happy with them. Having just returned from the UK, we were surprised to see them in the States. My wife had a nice sandwich, and I had the street tacos--both good serving sides. The service was excellent. The restaurants tables were very wobbly, so much so that we had to move tables. the restraint itself was nice but the front counter was messy and it felt off. the worker that sat us down didn't seem like she cared at all and seemed out of it, like they weren't paying attention at all and hated their job. It's a really nice pub in the middle of town with a large selection of eats and Mad Brews. I tried their Wicked Hazy and the Summer Wheat - both were very good. Downtown Auburn is a cute little town. They kind of "roll up the streets" at 9 pm though so if the mission is eating out, get going! We ended up here since it was still open after 9 pm on a Friday. We were trying for a pizza place that was supposed to. Be open until 11 pm according to Yelp, but they had a sign in the door stating they were closed at 9 pm. Anyway this place was still open and good. They have weekly daily specials and a whole lot of different ales on tap. My wife won't let me order any ales and such anymore. I would read the description or get sucked in an bottle design and order one. I would take a couple of sips, then realize it still, "tastes like beer", and waste the rest. Tonight I had the Italian sandwich and onion rings. For a two dollar upcharge I got six onion rings. They were fine, but I would be surprised if they were made on the premises. The sandwich was good and the meat was cut thick enough you could taste it. A side of some Italian dressing would have been good. It was a bit dry without it. The waitress had never heard of a Paloma Cocktail before. The bartendar had, but she left out the soda. Next time I come back I will print her off the recipe. My wife got the half order of a salad which I tasted. It reminded me of a vegan version of a taco salad. I prefer things that oink, moo, or cluck. So this was not my cup of tea. However if I ever change my mind, this salad would make my top 12 list. They have a single unisex bathroom upstairs so get in line early. Floors were wooden. Ceiling a stamped metal. While visiting the area car museums, the person at the ticket counter already had a list of restaurants in the area and was more than willing to recommend Mad Anthony's and my fried and I were glad she did. She made sure we knew that the Reuben was excellent. About the only drawback was that the bartender was overworked because of a lack of a helper. However, she did keep a great attitude and was very helpful. My fried took the advice and ordered the Reuben. As I am from the New York City area, I am fussy about this sandwich. He tasted it and said it was very good. I tasted it with my eyes and saw plenty of corned beef stacked with sauerkraut, dressing and cheese all on nicely marbled rye bread. I opted for a lighter meal - chicken wings and fried pickle spears. An authentic Buffalo sauce coated the wings nicely, but there was one drawback. I could not order "drums only". Oh well. Fried dill spears were tasty and interesting. Instead of a few big thick spears, these came about the same size and shape as French Fried potatoes. It was a nice take on this. As for the beer, it was quite good. I sampled the Old Fort there, and bought the Auburn Lager and Oktoberfest to bring home. All three were very nice. read more

In the City of Auburn, this is our Go-To!! Whether we are at the DeKalb County Free Fall Fair, out late on a Friday night, or out for a nice Sunday lunch; this place always hits a home run!! We have been here literally a hundred times and I can't believe I have never left a review...wow. So this trip involved a Mad Mary (Bloody Mary), a Strawberry Mango Tart, and 2 Unwraps (Pepperoni & Sausage and Jambalaya). Their Unwraps are always awesome (we have had them all), their beer is always cold and tasty, and everything else damn fine too!! Try the homemade chicken tenders and get them Buffalo style; AMAZING. Try the Scotch Eggs or some Scooby Snacks for an appetizer (we had the pretzels with beer cheese this time) and the cheese curds rock too! I highly recommend Mad Anthony's Auburn Tap Room. Let's start off with the reason for four stars instead of five. Feeling as tho you are seated in a freezer no matter where seated in the restaurant is never ever a good thing. Be mindful of your guests and do your best to make the atmosphere welcoming and relaxing. One bathroom on the main floor. One. And it's a unisex, one seater type of bathroom. There are additional bathrooms in the basement (yes, basement... not a nice lower floor... it's storage/unused space that requires a little searching your first time there to actually locate said restrooms) that are cramped and can serve three additional people (two urinals and one stall in the men's). While the business wasn't super busy while there, there was still a line for both upper and lower restrooms. This needs reworking. Now... the good part. Our server was incredibly helpful. She was honest about whether we would like a certain food or not and made sure to make some great recommendations. The cheese curds taste incredible. Not a whole lot in an order, but the taste is on point. The frisco melt was very, very good and while the Scooby snacks are good, I'm not sure the upgrade price made them worth it. I would go back. Plan on it. But knowing what to expect will help. Dress warm (we went on a very warm day), make sure no restroom trips are needed, and don't do the upgrades. We have been to Mad Anthony's several times since it opened (and we do not live in Indiana) lol. The service is always really great! Our service yesterday was simply amazing! We had one waitress (who was pregnant) and she always ensured that our table of sixteen was always satisfied! She constantly came back to check on refills, our food, etc. Mad Anthony's has a great selection of craft beers and they have awesome flight deals if you want to try more than one beer. I'm a fan of all of their stouts. So creamy and delicious! I really enjoyed the java craft beer! We also ordered food yesterday. I ordered the Cuban with waffles fries and my husband ordered the Reuben with regular fries. Sadly, both fries were probably the best part of our meals. The pulled pork in mine and the corned beef in my hubby's sandwiches were pretty dry which made the sandwiches hard to eat. We will most likely return again with family and friends, but will most likely try other foods on the menu! We thought the bartender had a good sense of humor when she approached our table and asked my teenage daughter for her ID. Being from MI, we didn't know that nobody under 21 is allowed in the bar area of a restaurant in IN. They were very gracious about it, and we relocated to another table and ordered. Our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. My husband enjoyed a flight of three craft beers and a bbq chicken unwrap. I don't know why they call this an unwrap. It's essentially a flatbread or thin crust pizza. The chicken was a little dry, but flavorful. My daughter devoured the mac and cheese, proclaiming it some of the best she's had. We got the pork belly for the mac and cheese on the side. It too was dry but flavorful. My fish and chips were good. The batter on the fish doesn't get soggy, which I really appreciate in beer battered fish. The batter wasn't amongst my favorites of all time, but with lemon, the fact was good. The fries were seasoned and wonderful. Our waitress dropped the ball a bit at the end and didn't return with the bill for quite a while. Then we had to wait that same amount of time for her to come back to pick it up. Overall though, she did a great job. Pickle fries lacked flavor, and the shrimp tacos were...bland at best, even after our server went out of her way to get me a side of mango salsa and avocado to add some flavor to it. I love to get their pizza to go. Amazingly, unlike the other pizza chains in this town when you pick up the box at the mad anthony counter it is heavy. You definitely know there is substantial food in there. The crust is light and airy and the ingredients extremely fresh. I always get the Lagasse with extra cheese. A group of us goes here most weeks on Tuesday evenings. They are super accommodating for the large group, even with their trivia going on. Food wise, everything is really solid. I would call anything to die for, but it is consistently really good. Anything with 'jumbalaya' in the name can be uncomfortably spicy (I like spicy), but you can ask for it with no spice. I stopped in here on a quiet Friday night, in town for...of course...marching band stuff. I found the place on Yelp and it turns out most locals call it something different. Like it was something else a few years ago? I sat at the bar and had some conversation with a local, it was fairly pleasant. Knowing that it was a branch of a Ft. Wayne brewery, I was excited to try the local flavors. I picked out a Belgian Trippel, but they were out. I saw fried bologna sandwich on the menu and that's one of my favorites, I like them topped with cole slaw, but they were out. I ordered pork rinds as a starter for my burger, but the bartender forgot and just the burger came out. Boo on all of that. The blue cheese burger came out medium-well and it was too dry. What was good? The conversation, the house IPA, and the mug club that they have. The paragraph above lists the stuff that was disappointing. If I'm back in Auburn (pretty cool little town!) Let me tell you how awesome this mad Anthony's is. J no it only do they practice very good social distancing and safety precautions they also maintain a clean environment. Staff is super friendly and it is easy to get to from the highway with plenty of street parking. I've been twice this month and it's never busy. Although I go a little Later in the afternoon when we've eaten or experienced their beers. Now I have walked by during busier times and this place is slammed with a waiting list. That's when you know a place is great. Located downtown there is a bar area and a family area. They have a good selection of appetizers and food on their menu reasonably priced. My favorites are the fried fresh from the fryer pork rinds it's the. Sprinkled with Shigs N Pits bbq rub and served with bbq sauce. I also recommend getting ranch with them and dipping them in both. So tasty. I also love the breadsticks and I've tried their scotch eggs which are large and a meal in itself. The reg food I love the flat pizzas and the burgers. Really you cannot go wrong with any of the food. Then there's the extensive tap beer list that makes you want to try everything And they offer flights of beer so you can do just that. Don't worry they do offer three different sizes of beer one being the sample and I think it's about 3 ounces of beer. Great price if you want to taste it but a flight isn't your fancy.
