Huge Tender
Clint L.

What a surprise! Another local eatery we were turned on to and we are certainly glad. For once, I am glad we didn't order an appetizer! Because our stomachs would have had no room!! Number 1... huge portions! Took half my wife's salad and half my tenders home. Number 2... craft beers on tap and in cans/bottles!! Huge selection! They have everything from Stouts, IPAs, Porters, Fruits, etc. They even have Sours!! And I love they have Guessworks (Albion, IN) beers on tap. Number 3... nice old school building with the kitchen up front when you walk in. That's your sign...when the kitchen is up front and in plain sight, you are in a classic, old building. And they aren't afraid to cook in front of you. I think that's cool. We will definitely be back! I heard the Prime Rib is to die for. I have to try it!!

This place is great. It is a local bar type setting. There is a lot of local memorabilia hanging in the walls. It feels very clean. There is no smoking. The kitchen area is open to see right away. The staff was very attentive. We were there at 6pm and it was full. There was one table open for us to sit. The beer menus is HUGE. They have some local drafts and an almost endless amount of bottled beer. That was a pretty big surprise. Wry nice as well. We started with onion rings. My wife said they were the best she ever had. I can't disagree. Thick. Crunchy. Good flavor. Big onions. Excellent starter. My wife had a burger and I had salmon. I really enjoyed my salmon. Light and tasty and flaky and easy to eat. My wife enjoyed her burger but could only eat half. The waffle fries are the best ever. That cannot be argued. There are plenty of sandwiches in the menu but they also have nice dinners. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more. They make their own sauces and coleslaw and batter in house. There is a nice attention to good food here in a bar type setting that on first pass, may not make you think about the quality of food. But once you have tried, I think you will ride again!

If you want to feel like you are at home even if you are far away from your own... this is the place! Not only do they have an amazing beer and cider selection they have phenomenal food!!! The staff and the owner Van are so kind and wonderful to all their guest. My friends and I were visiting from California and it was defiantly our favorite place to hang out. Did I mention the food?? SO GOOD... we even got food to take on the plane ride home. And those sweet potato fries and dip are unforgettable. Same for all the other comfort food that they serve. I'm missing it already can't wait to visit again!

The service is quick and they have the best fried fish dinners. The prices are reasonable as well.

It was ok but not that great and extremely overpriced for the quality. It's an interesting concept but does not deliver.

I ordered one dressed with lettuce & tomato with a side of fries & Cole slaw. Word of warning. Don't. Do not order this. The loin was pounded thin and beautifully fried. HOWEVER....ZERO taste. Zero seasoning. Zero. Not even salt. The breading was moist underneath and a little "doughy"- and sat like an old wet sock in my stomach. There was absolutely nothing to save this poor BAT other than copious amounts of ketchup for flavor. How in the hell are you gonna go to the effort of pounding out a beautiful tenderloin paper thin in spots and NOT even attempt to season your breading? No salt. No pepper. No Cavenders. No Adobe. No Lawreys. How does this happen? The world may never know. The lettuce topper was 1/2 Romaine leaf and 1/2 iceberg & wilted. The tomato slices (2) should have been thrown out yesterday. Pinkish & slimy - side of botulism please. The menu lists the "tiny little bun" as being "grilled". That bun never came close to the damned grill. It was a plain white hamburger bun as fresh as can be. A second plate should be brought so customers don't have to cut/rip the tenderloin on a napkin on the table. How can a waitress knowingly ask how "things are tasting" and not see you hacking this shoe leather bland swine piled on a napkin? Never mind. I was already turned off from the first taste while cutting it up & knew 80% of it was staying there for the trash can. No way any of that was coming home. My husband ordered a Ruben with fries & Cole slaw. First thing out of his mouth was "fries are horrible". Yikes! How can you f$&k up fries? Cheap fries in old oil without salt & they sat NOT under lamps....they were cold - only explanation. His Ruben came without any thousand island dressing & he was already pissed abt the fries. Smallest Rueben I've ever seen for $10.95 - fries and Cole slaw were extra. So for $10,95 that meat better be piled on the marbled rye! The CocaCola mix was perfect as was their unsweetened tea. We sat quietly waiting for our bill & upon arriving it was someone else's & needed to be re-rung. 15min later we're still waiting for it. We were one of 3, 4 tops so the place wasn't packed at all. Note to self - go to Mad Anthony's for tenderloin and Rueben and you won't be served disappointment with a side of sadness. I wanted to really like this place. It failed miserably.

There are lots of interesting interior designs that make you feel at home. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. They did a good job explaining the menu to a first timer. When you enter you grab a menu from a stand - it is well signed but impersonal. There is signage that directs you to order at the bar. More impersonal impressions. The food menu has a decent variety to choose from. The beer menu is rather large. The non beer alcoholic selections were very thin. On this occasion they were out of two of the three sangria selections. The food was disappointing. The chips and cheese appetizer is large with lots of chips. The salsa is sweet and tasty. We thought it tasted a lot like Picante brand. The cheese was thin and dry and just kind of there. The chips were sprinkled with a dry rub which added some needed flavor and salty pop. Overall...I wouldn't recommend. The peach sangria wine was very good. A delicious sweet taste. Very refreshing. Great for a warm summer evening - definitely recommend! My wife had the Ole Ford Pita and really liked it. The pickles that come with this dish were very tasty. They had a nice crisp texture and vinegar bite. They do have a bit of a spicy kick so beware! The chicken quesadillas was just there. The salsa was the same as what came with the chips & cheese. A nice sweet and cool taste. Mildly spicy. The quesadilla was kinda small for $10. There were a small amount of chicken chunks which were moist and tender - but no discernible seasoning. The Cole slaw side was nice. Large pieces of cabbage with a mild mayo taste. This has a nice cool and refreshing taste on a hot evening. The baked beans were okay. They tasted a lot like Walmart baked beans out of a can - which I like. Just nothing special here.

What gearhead wouldn't love a car/shop themed brewery?... Hop Rod DIPA didn't dissapoint - nice hop-forward character with a slight dank nose that is very pleasing. Also tasted Grease Monkey and took home a growler of both. Service and atmosphere are off-the-charts in the Automotive birthplace of Indiana. VERY much worth a stop (or many) and assuming your a gearhead save time to explore NATMUS, ACD, and the other places that make Auburn so special...

Shorty's Steakhouse (Garrett, Indiana) - looking for a unique steakhouse, not too far outside Fort…read moreWayne? Shorty's is one of the Salvatori's Restaurant Group offerings that is located on Main Street in Garrett. Head north on 327 to the downtown area. Shorty's is set in a small and older building located on the east side of the road. You will need to park on the street - which isn't an issue in Garrett. As I said... Shorty's is a smaller venue. The building holds about 10 people at the bar and 90 inside dinners. The outdoor patio appears to seat about 50 people. Shorty's is always busy - especially on Friday/Saturday nights. So, make a reservation via their website. The larger side room can hold bigger groups of 8-14 people. Otherwise you are limited to a table of four. Upon entering the restaurant you will quickly encounter the host stand right at the door. There is no real foyer area to wait for your table. You may feel uncomfortably close to a stranger if things are backed up. The bar area is one of the first things you see. Legend has it that this bar was relocated from a Chicago area business who had it installed in around the time the 1893 World's Fair was in Chicago. The bar wood work, design and finishing are gorgeous! Very inviting. The older part of restaurant retains the decor of the old building - attractive dark wood interiors/fixtures, green plaster ceilings and hardwood floors. All are very comfortable and welcoming. The host and service team were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of help to hustle drink orders, refills and follow up. The kitchen is very small. Food orders may take a bit of time when they are busy. So be prepared to relax, enjoy a bar drink, converse and admire the renovations. Shorty's has a decent variety to offer on their smaller food and drink menus. They are more than just steaks. In general, most items are a bit pricey...but probably normal for most area steakhouses. Here is a run down of the food we ordered: -Table Bread: nothing to special; white bread roll with a firm exterior and soft inside with basic butter; tasted like it was freshly baked -House Salad: nice sized salad with a fresh taste and ingredients; several side vegetables and cheese to dress up/accent the salad; the honey mustard dressing tasted familiar - probably not made in house -Crab Cakes: my wife loved her crab cakes; tender, full of crab and seafood tastes; nicely grilled exterior -Prime Rib & Baked Potato: delicious taste, tender and smaller amounts of fat; my medium rare request seemed to be more medium as I didn't see much pink coloring; the real horseradish lacked the usual bold kick that I except. The potato was baked perfectly and accented with the usual dollops of smooth butter and sour cream. Good steakhouse choice. Overall, Shorty's offers good food & drink selections in a unique setting. Remember, Shorty's is a very popular place and fills up quickly. Therefore, plan ahead and make a reservation. Shorty's is definitely worth a trip to Garrett to give them a try.
