If you're looking for a nod to a throwback in time, when people were proud to be American's, when…read moregas was cheap, when you could buy groceries without breaking the bank account, when you trusted your institutions and their leaders, you probably need to roll in here. Located in the tiny town of Iola KS just off the road a bit sits one of the few free stand alone A & W's. Most are now combo'd with Long John Silver's - not sure why but back to the review. We stopped in on a thru trip from Kansas City to Tulsa, we had the grand kids in tow and needed a roadside stop about half way. I found this joint and my grandson had been asking about Root Beer Floats, I had to take the opportunity to introduce him to a real version, not some sling it in a styrofoam cup kind of affair. We arrived about 2pm when drinks are half price and we ordered up the sought after refreshments. Upon first taste I was transported back in time to my childhood and teen years. I remember sitting in the back seat of the family car, on hot vinyl upholstery sipping from a straw and holding that frosty mug on my knee. I recalled the pre-game meal of a cheese burger, fries and a rootbeer float before basketball games. All I was missing was my letter jacket. I don't think my grandson came up for air until after the last bite, he may have even gotten a "brain freeze" from the cold sugary goodness. I can't vouch for the food but from the reviews it looks like a solid place, there appeared to be many happy locals dining in for a late lunch. Check this place out, you'll be thankful and you'll probably remember the good ol' days.

We stopped here twice recently while driving through to Oklahoma. First time, Butterfinger Shake…read more(or whatever they call it) and a Root Beer float. Mine was the float. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. The brand of root beer probably to blame. Coming back home, we stopped again. Same Butterfinger Shake, but this time I wanted something with chocolate in it and ended up with a medium Cherry Mudslide. First, I can't imagine getting a larger (although I probably will next time haha) because the medium is pretty big considering how much toppings are included. It was probably the best ice cream treat I've ever had. I seriously might have to drive back to Spangles to get it again (probably not, but definitely will find Spangles when I'm out and about again and order the same thing). One star off for how messy it was when it was handed to me. I'm in a car with all this goop flowing out because the put the lid on with cherries and stuff on the rim of the cup. I ended up basically making a diaper out of 100 napkins to protect myself and the car.

I tried the Minute Maid lemonade , and it was super fresh and delicious. The restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms , which is a big plus . And the ice cream was amazing ! Definitely a 5‑star experience and I'll be coming back

The unusually named Go To is located in a remodeled old gas station on the main drag in Louisburg…read moreKS. It's a very cute smallish spot in a city with a surprising number of decent restaurants - but every city could use one more, right? They have a few tables in the dining room with a fast-food style ordering counter, plus three more tables in a patio area that blends seamlessly into the parking lot. Unfortunately, the promise of this new establishment didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the 1/2 lb Big Daddy Burger for lunch. The burger was shaped more or less like a meatball so while there was plenty of beef, it didn't come close to covering the bun so the proportions didn't seem to fit each other. They use homemade pickles which some people would probably really like, but I'm more of an old fashion Vlasic hamburger pickle kind of guy. On the plus side, you could definitely taste a distinct charcoal flavor in the meat, similar to what a burger at an Independence Day picnic should taste like. My curly fries were fine, but nothing more than what you would purchase in the frozen food section of the grocery store. My wife ordered the wings which are roasted, fried, and then thrown on the grill. It sounds like they went to extra trouble to make the wings, but they were on the small side (as many wings are these days - except for the giant wings at The Peanut locations in the KC area) and the taste wasn't noticeably different from the typical appetizer wings at your nearest sports bar. I've heard that pizza is really their thing and that is what we had hoped to order, if their pizza oven had not been on the fritz. They've only been open a short time, maybe a month or so, and this is the second time I'm aware of that their pizza oven has been non-functional. We plan to give them another chance on a future visit when they get their pizza oven up and running again. But until then, while the food was definitely OK, it's not a place I plan to rush back to.

If you are into high-quality locally sourced food, this is the place for you. You can just tell it's better quality than other places that use seed oils, they use beef tallow to fry the french fries and I swear they tasted better! Haven't tried the pizza yet, but we'll go back for that and they cauliflower bites for sure. Wish more restaurants cared about quality like these guys do. If you are wanting burger or pizza check them out and the prices are very reasonable.
