Typical subway, but small and not very clean. No one was wearing masks so if you're sensitive to the virus don't go here.

They have very rude people working there. I don't recommend it. The food is good but service is terrible.

It wasn't too long of a wait... they were pretty busy. I wish I had taken pics. I ordered the French Dip. It was DELICIOUS. Nice and hot, perfect amount of au jus to dip in and the cheese and bread was great! But it was $15 and it was very very small. It doesn't come with anything other than the sandwich. That made me expect a large sandwich. It didn't even fill the little paper boat thing they serve it in. We got sweet tea and a bag of chips. Hubby got the turkey sandwich. Was also grilled- the turkey was nice, but the cranberry jam overpowered any other flavor. It was really small as well and was $18. The two bags of sun chips and a drink should have been included in that price, but it wasn't... we knew that, so it's cool, but expected larger meals for walking out with a $38 bill. They also don't have any burgers any more, so the menu here should be updated. Sweet tea was over steeped, and that wouldn't be a big deal either except again.... $$$! Lovely spot, pretty tasty! Still hungry.

Ballinger, Texas…read more Stopped at this cute sandwich shop on my way to San Antonio. It's a quarter after noon and we had to wait to get a table. Seems like the hotspot in town. Love the American flag on the brick wall on the interior of the restaurant. The restaurant has high ornate ceilings. There are two booths in the main dining room by the windows and many tables with chairs. This is a very old building with lots of original detail. The bathroom is just one toilet, which all genders share. It is not handicap accessible and very small. The stairs that lead to the top floor are full of dust. I would suggest occasionally cleaning them so that they are not dirty to look at while dining. The napkins are dispensed by a napkin holder on the table. Drinks are served in oversize plastic cups while some people have Styrofoam cups. The cutlery is real with a mixture of glass dishes and red plastic baskets with red and white checkered paper. Multiple sandwich choices with choice of bread. They offer hamburgers, daily specials such as quiche, catfish, and salads. Every plate comes with chips, pickle and a homemade cookie. I ordered the Waldorf chicken sandwich. It is made with chicken breast, grapes, apples, celery, walnuts, and mayonnaise. I also chose the oatmeal raisin cookie. My husband ordered today's special, which is chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, green beans and a roll. They aren't sure if it is still available at 12:30 in the afternoon so he ordered a hamburger as a back up. It took quite some time for us to receive our food. From the time that we sat to the time, our food was received was more than 45 minutes. Three tables walked in after us, and they were all served food before us. The waitress came over and told us we were next as she saw we were perplexed. I enjoyed the Waldorf chicken salad with squaw bread. My disappointment was potato chips had a few large ones on top and as soon as I ate, those, the rest were tiny pieces that were broken. My husband was not able to get the special of the day. Being so early in the day, it was odd to see they had run out. So the burger was served. Tasted fine, but again the potato chips were nothing but small pieces underneath the larger few on top. Had to ask for silverware. Never received a refill on my drink. In fact, the waitstaff only came by only two times after we ordered. Once to tell us, our food would be coming up and then when it was delivered. Overall, I was pleased with the way my food tasted. I understand. They were very busy for lunch hour on a Tuesday afternoon however, perhaps more than two people should be waiting the tables for the whole restaurant. This inconvenience to me having to wait for something that I should have taken no more than 15 minutes, cuts severely into my reading. Another frustration is that they charge 4% if you use your credit card to pay. I own a business and the max that one is charged from the credit card 2.8% to 3%. Why did they fail in need to charge more? Overall, I would give this place 4.3 stars. I would come back to this restaurant. However, I would come in earlier in the day so that I could get the special that they offer as well as more timely service.

I like…read moretrying chili burgers because not only are they one of my favorites but I get to see how they make their chili and patty at the same time. Is it homemade chili? Homemade patty and seasoned? Soggy bun or toasted? There was a spot in the front to get a carhop so I parked. It didn't take long before a young girl came to ask for my order. Nothing else seemed that appetizing besides the chili burger anyway so I ordered that. "Mexican food" consisted of nachos. Only after the fact did I see onions rings but thought the burger was enough. No prices on the menu which made me suspicious but how much would a sort of fast food/diner cost me? Didn't expect to pay over $8 but yep. Quite a lot. The burger was only okay. Nothing unique. Nothing to write home about at all. The chili was only slightly different from a Sonic chili burger and honestly, Sonic has more flavor in theirs sadly. I wasn't offered any options for the chili burger and none listed on the menu. Chili burger is what the menu says and that's what you get. No option for onions or grilled onions or anything else. It's definitely not worth $8. Maaaaaybe $4-6 and $6 being generous. $8 should come with fries at least. Basic flavor. Basic presentation. Then you're most likely feeling the need to tip on top of that. The parking area was at least clean. People coming and going makes you think it's a popular spot but makes me wonder if there's better places to go even if I had to walk inside. Great place to pick up food for the kids, grandparents or a quick bite but don't expect much if you want flavor. You pay more than what you get.

So this place is similar to a Bush's or a Chicken Express in menu options. So I think I'll pull over and grab a few chicken tenders for the road. I haven't been into many of these since they changed their name from Golden Fried Chicken back when I WORKED for them as a supervisor in the 90's. They have been around a long time and know what they are doing in the fried chicken and tenders business. I went inside instead of drive thru cuz I needed to stretch my legs anyway. Wow, menu has changed and exploded. They even have roasted chicken now. It looked amazing in the picks. And the old favorite tenders and fried chicken and sides and of course sweet tea. I was immediately greeted by a lanky young Cowboy. I'm gonna call him, in a green long sleeve western shirt and blue Jeans and straw cowboy hat and country friendly accent that would make Dolly Parton blush! And I'm pretty dang country myself! He was busy but said Someone would be right with me. Shortly a nice young girl came to take my order and I ordered just 3 tenders with gravy and a roll. I had to forgo the sweet tea today. I'm off sugar. And I had a bottle of water in the car anyway. Well t why we're out of tenders at the moment but they were cooking an it was a 5-6 minute wait. I told them that was fine. I NEVER mind waiting for fresh chicken, of any kind anywhere. So I went to take a seat a table nearby and wait. A minute or two later the young cowboy came to the counter and asked if he could get me glass of tea? I said why? Because I'm having to wait? And he said he said "yes sir" and I said no that not necessary but thank you for offering. Then he says "hour bout I toss in some fries or okra?" I laughed and said "well I wouldn't knock an order of okra out of your hand!" And he said "well all right then!" He went and finish packing up the order and repeated it to me and I said "and gravy I need gravy, I don't do dipping sauces with real chicken" and he said " oh I'm glad you said that cuz the 3 tender order doesn't come with gravy but I'll get you some". And we had nice little conversation about where I was headed to and where I was from. Another customer came in. An older lady, she ordered a kids meal, but wanted a roasted leg and Instead of apple slices wanted Cole slaw and to upgrade the kids drink to the Large Sweet Tea. I could tell what she was doing. And he had no issues accommodating all her special requests. Then we all three talked about how great their sweet tea is. She said" oh it's the best! I can't even make it this good at home!" And just laughed. I headed out to my car and got my food situated so I could eat and drive. Everting was hot fresh and delicious! OMG the fresh yeast rolls reminder of a place we when I was a child that made them. Slightly buttery yet a little sweet. Super soft, with a crispy bottom edge. Perfect with honey. As I was driving and eating I was a one happy camper let me tell you ... as I mindlessly dug into my box of goodies in the passenger seat. Then after I had eat my 3 tenders I went back to see if I had any okra left, feeling around in the box I found something ... bigger tho, was it clump of okra pieces. Nope, that young cowboy had given an extra tender too! I overheard him talking with another customer about his baby, I think is turning 2 in march. This young man, this young cowboy, I don't know if he was the manager, asst manager, heck maybe even the owner, who knows who has the money to start up a business these days! But God bless him. And may many blessings fall upon him. He was the friendliest counter help person in a fast food restaurant I have encountered in decades . He genuinely seemed to care about his customers as if they were guests in his home, or even as if they were family for those he knew a little better like the lady who came in asking about his child. Y'all stop in if you need some chicken. I always go to The Allen's normally and sit down and eat when I go thru Sweetwater. But today's experience blessed me in such a way I just have to sing this young gentleman's praises, The food was amazing the restaurant was clean inside and out. It's a little of a pain to get to but just follow the signs when you get of I-20. And your nose cuz it smells incredible as soon as you get out of the car!
