It was late at night and I pumped myself, thankyouverymuch. I also went in and went to the bathroom, which was equally as important as the near-fumes gas stop. As the pup was with me, I had to get her out to walk and stretch the legs. And, you know, she had her own important bladder-emptying to do. In the world of gas stations, this one doesn't offer a ton of leg-stretching or grass-peeing opportunities, but we managed to find a small patch near the front and all was taken care of. Beyond that, this is a pretty straightforward Maverik. It's right on the map where my tank empties and I've filled up twice here, so should I do the same road trip again I'm quite sure I'd find myself filling the tank and emptying the tanks here again.

No matter we enjoyed our sandwiches anyway. The only think that could've been better was the rye was too dry. Soft rye is the best. Maybe it's not as popular. We also got milkshakes. Wow! Best, most flavorful milkshake I have had in a very long time. Mine was coffee with some chocolate syrup. My husband got raspberry chocolate, which was a raspberry base with little raspberry-filled chocolate pieces that melted creamy in your mouth. He let me try some at the bottom of his cup. We will be back next time we make this trip! It was well worth the slight detour into downtown Baker City off I-84.

First we went to Bimart but they were completely sold out so they recommended York's. Kind of hard to describe this place. A mix between a general store, convenience store, outdoors store, and hardware store, but also with lots of guns for sale. A real American place. We weren't expecting the large food selection there and we had just eaten breakfast, otherwise we definitely would have digged in. There was a good selection of fried foods, but they also had a robust sandwich menu. We were able to get our DEET and a couple other small items. If you need a place for a quick bite and you're by Baker City, York's is definitely the spot.

It sounded like something a tourist should do when you're staying in a little town like Baker. The diner is part of the motel next door which is also called the Oregon Trail. Both venues are kinda dated. I'm sure in it's prime it was fabulous! But eating at this venue was pretty cool. It was like stepping into an old school time capsule. We sat ourselves at a booth on the very left of the diner. It was probably one of the only booths where the seating wasn't all messed up. We were instantly greeted and given menus. I did creep on their online menu this morning but it was good to see what I might miss. I got the country breakfast. It had two eggs, 5 slices of bacon and I opted for fresh fruit instead of the hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and yolky in the middle. The fruit was super fresh! It was still on the unripe side but still sweet. The bacon was ok. It was slightly overcooked in the middle and chewy on the ends. It was quite the experience eating here. The servers are really nice and really good at making sure your coffee cup is always full! By the time we left, there was a good crowd of people coming in. It was cool to experience Baker's local diner. It was neat dining here with all the locals.
